I made a conscious decision to try and switch off from the media stories and coronavirus news and just try and get in with our lives.
I had been feeling mentally a lot better and almost forgot about covid in the sense of not seeing it in your face every where you turn on social media etc.
Now it's everywhere again 'Plans for plan c' 'lockdown imminent' 'data suggests this wave will be the worst one yet' 'modelling shows new strain could cause 75,000 feather in 5 months'
Are just some of the headlines I've seen today and I just feel so fed up.
Why are we still talking about lockdowns 2 years on?
I'm just so done with it all, it feels like there never will be a normal again, just when we start to get back to doing normal things you get taken back to square one again and told we may have to lockdown or have further restrictions brought back in. It's just so draining 😩

Its the media they make everything worse. It is really upsetting to hear read and listen as everything seems doom i am meant to be getting married next year and its making me feel ill with worry. I can't even book a honeymoon because I'm afraid it will be cancelled. My friends mother died in hospital alone a few months ago and she's livid to hear about that so called party. When will it end......

Fairylights25 · 11/12/2021 16:04

Just being rude, it might surprise you to learn that Boris is a person, a human being just doing a job, stop being so bloody vile. He did not create the virus, he has tried to give us some kind of quality of life back which he largely achieved for the last five months. A new variant can hardly be helped or predicted.

Fairylights25 · 11/12/2021 16:04

WTF , have you been reading about what Boris and his wonderful party have been up to these past years?
Fairylights25 · 11/12/2021 16:06

Watch a Christmas film, a funny one op, pour a glass of something nice, see a friend or two and chill out this evening if you are not going out. We will all be okay.

bloodywhitecat · 11/12/2021 16:06

I am at the end of my rope. Every time I have hope of a Christmas it seems to get snatched away again. I want two things, DH home for Christmas and to hear his voice again.

Lacedwithgrace · 11/12/2021 16:07

If people wore masks and stopped pretending everything is fine just because they feel safe we wouldn't be in this situation. No one seems to care about the people still shielding, because their mental health apparently relies on pubs and clubs being open, nevermind that a huge amount of people are still trapped indoors terrified of even going for essential food shops or hospital appointments.

CupcakeTowers · 11/12/2021 16:07

There is no point in getting het up about it, changes for mitigation's are taking place all over the world, Austria has a full lockdown, look at Holland, Germany etc. Frances mask wearing is much stricter than ours

I'm in Austria's full lockdown right now and nothing is open aside from supermarkets and pharmacies. The only thing to do is take walks, although thankfully there are some Christmas lights to enjoy. I don't find it too awful, maybe because the lockdown last year lasted 7 months (Oct-May) so it was this same routine anyway.

Fairylights25 · 11/12/2021 16:07

Oh cripes he wasn't even AT the party, and by all accounts it was not a big party with a DJ but a few drinks in the office towards the end of the day. It has been blown up at all of proportion as Dominic Cummings hoped it would be, as he has orchestrated the whole thing. It is a witch hunt, a set up - you are meant to be angry, so he has done a good job. Well done Cummings. No one is talking about Barnard Castle anymore are they...

Angrymum22 · 11/12/2021 16:09

Fed up of doom and gloom merchants on mums et re Covid. The fact you are posting means you’ve survived it so far. Evidence suggests it’s really only rampant in younger people who are on the whole not vaccinated so try and be a little more optimistic. As we have seen throughout the year if your vaccinated you are well protected.
I’ve managed to survive Covid twice as have my DH and DS. I’ve just come to the end of treatment for cancer which would have been caught much earlier without the pandemic.
There are currently around 3/4 of a million people who have a delayed cancer diagnosis, and are at a much more advanced stage than would normally be. We should be worrying about the thousands of people who will die because pretty much all of the NHS closed down to prioritise Covid.
In nearly 2 years of this pandemic the number of deaths due to Covid is still no where near the number of people who die of cancer in a normal year. And many of those who died of Covid probably had terminal cancer.
Pull yourself together OP and look at the bigger picture. We all know what to do to avoid Covid. Unfortunately face masks and social distancing don’t work for cancer.
I know all the arguments about saving our NHS but having spent the last 3 months in and out of hospitals most are not at crisis point. There are some pressure points but since very few have started non urgent surgeries they are able to offer very good service to urgent patients. The real problems will start when they don’t have the Covid excuse.

I'm not really referring to the party. Thanks to the Tories, the nhs is on its knees, we have human sewage pumped into our rivers, we have had our right to protest taken away. I could go on but I can't be bothered any more.
Gingerbreadhoose · 11/12/2021 16:11

What rubbish. The COVID 19 virus keep producing mutations and no one can predict the exact future path of a pandemic

That was literally my point. The government TRIED to predict it by giving people specific dates by which things would improve.

Johnson is not to blame for Omicron, but he is an amoral, corrupt and incompetent cock. He doesn't care one whit about the people of this country, the only thing he cares about is £££.

wasthataburp · 11/12/2021 16:11

It's how I feel too. A few times in the last two years I've deleted social media etc and it's definitely helped. Actually MN is one of the worst I think. All you see is people calling each other selfish etc. It's not good at all.

shreddednips · 11/12/2021 16:13

I feel the same. My son has been off childcare with terrible croup (negative PCR) for a week, and now we've both just tested positive on LF after being exposed at A&E. just when he was starting to look well enough to go back. I feel desperate, we don't qualify for any support because of my income but we're in a TONNE of debt after my DH's business went to the wall and half my clients disappeared in earlier lockdowns. Miserable. Wish I felt well enough for a brandy Sad

vickyp0llard · 11/12/2021 16:14

Yep - anything other that totally locking yourself in your house with your windows shut is "selfish and stupid" apparently.

Fairylights25 · 11/12/2021 16:14

Do you know what this is not turning into a Boris Bashing thread cripes, which is boring quite frankly and you are derailing op's thread is not on, support her she is the one that you be posting to.

Everyone wearing masks and following all the rules wouldn't make this go away.

People being trapped indoors terrified to leave their house is the fault of the media and its fucking disgusting how its been allowed to happen.

frozendaisy · 11/12/2021 16:16

Apart from putting a mask on and a bit of table service Christmas tree buying weekend exactly as it always is.

You started it, I was sympathizing with the shitty situation the op referred. You're boring me now any way. Bye
Gingerbreadhoose · 11/12/2021 16:20

Mmm at this point I think it's gone the other way - if you are still anti letting the virus rip you are a scaremongering cretin who wants abused children locked out of schools and the economy ruined. Oh and you must also be in a cushty WFH job in a big house with no money worries.

Yeah right, a set up. Let's witch hunt Dominic Cummings instead then, eh? Hmm
XenoBitch · 11/12/2021 16:21

I hear you, OP. It all feels so out of our hands, and we are just sat waiting to see what we can and can't do next. It is hard to make plans, or think of any positive for the future. It is depressing to see people shriek for lockdowns etc when the impact of them can be devastating.
We can't control the 'big' things but we can control the smaller things.

VaccineSticker · 11/12/2021 16:22

Covid never ended on freedom day.
The scientists have been expecting this for a while. It’s very badly timed now it’s winter and in the holiday season but perfect for the virus to thrive. It couldn’t have picked a worse time.

I am sorry OP. I hope you and all of us pull through this.

Derbee · 11/12/2021 16:22

The media LOVES doom mongering.

I think there’s good news though!

What I’ve read about the studies in South Africa is that the Omicron variant is much more spreadable, but very much milder and less deadly than Delta. This means that the dangerous Delta is being killed off and replaced by the new mild Omicron mutation. So with vaccines/boosters/infection and antibodies, infections will be high for a while, but lockdowns defeat the point of a careful spread of milder infection.
