I made a conscious decision to try and switch off from the media stories and coronavirus news and just try and get in with our lives.
I had been feeling mentally a lot better and almost forgot about covid in the sense of not seeing it in your face every where you turn on social media etc.
Now it's everywhere again 'Plans for plan c' 'lockdown imminent' 'data suggests this wave will be the worst one yet' 'modelling shows new strain could cause 75,000 feather in 5 months'
Are just some of the headlines I've seen today and I just feel so fed up.
Why are we still talking about lockdowns 2 years on?
I'm just so done with it all, it feels like there never will be a normal again, just when we start to get back to doing normal things you get taken back to square one again and told we may have to lockdown or have further restrictions brought back in. It's just so draining 😩

OP posts:
IrishMamaMia · 11/12/2021 14:38

It really is a nightmare. I just hope we can control this wave a bit better without shutting down. I guess it will depend on numbers hospitalised.

Tabbacus · 11/12/2021 14:40

It seems like omicron is more mild, at the moment they want to buy some time to research it and try and ensure this is the case so as to make a proportional response. Fingers crossed this will be the case and things can continue on as they are.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/12/2021 14:40

I think we all feel like this😟

AutumnAlmanack · 11/12/2021 14:47

I feel exactly the same, OP. I was discussing the whole thing with my aunt this morning and we both ended up feeling really down about it all. I could easily have burst into tears there and then, but she has her own problems, so I waited until I was back in my car on the way home and had a real blub. Goodness knows what other drivers thought!

I hate everything about it - can't make definite plans, can't go on holiday without loads of restrictions which I am not prepared to undergo, can't even just have browse round the shops without feeling really uncomfortable. I won't go anywhere which entails eating or drinking indoors with crowds of people - so yes, it's pretty awful.

Not a helpful attitude, to be honest.

We're not all in the same boat. A lot of people I know think they're having a hard time, but at the end of the day, they're in lovely houses with partners and have company and support. I saw someone say 'it's not the end of the world, you can replace going out for drinks with a fun cocktail night at home' and just thought, how tone deaf can you be? How much fun do they think a cocktail night on your own is?

This is much, much worse for people who live alone or already had issues with feeling lonely or isolated.

Toadsinholes · 11/12/2021 14:49

I swear there are some people on there who actually DON’T feel like this & want another lockdown 😩
OP I am with you. My business is on its knees (one more closure will kill it off), I have no money left, my kids can’t cope with any more homeschooling, and my mental health is destroyed from it all.
Any fucker who says we need to lock down again can kiss my poor, ‘selfish’ ass (& give me the 20 grand I need to keep going)

Tabbacus · 11/12/2021 14:52

Good job it's not a competition then isn't it @megustalacerveza - I hate this notion that people aren't allowed to feel a certain way if they have x, y or z, I agree it can be insensitive to mention specific things but we are all human and all struggle in our own way.

Nosquit · 11/12/2021 14:52

I am totally with you OP! I nearly committed suicide during the last set of lockdowns and got put on the severe mental health list. My doctor was saying what great progress I had made since then and now she is worried for me once again. I fear the mental health pandemic is going to last far far longer than this current covid one.

Kjcf · 11/12/2021 14:53

Sadly this is life now if they bring in more lockdown restrictions. There will always be more variants and then more restrictions.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/12/2021 14:55

I don’t care whether it’s a ‘helpful’ attitude or not.

It’s how everyone I know feels. I’m not posting to be ‘helpful’ 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gingerbreadhoose · 11/12/2021 14:57

Governments ought to have been honest with people from the beginning about how long this was likely to last, particularly while the poorest countries remain largely unvaccinated.

bordermidgebite · 11/12/2021 15:00

Acknowledging how aweful this all is probably healthy

Even though I suspect the scientists are right it's still awful

bordermidgebite · 11/12/2021 15:02

Government hasn't been great

The scientists have been pretty clear , but there is a lot of noise out there and science is by is nature vague , when we as humans crave certainty

JanisMoplin · 11/12/2021 15:04

I am sorry you feel this way. My mother is in a country where boosters are not available, so I feel very much the same, and am besides myself with worry. Just so DONE with it all. But it is not a competition, and you are certainly quite justified in feeling totally fed up.

Claudethecat · 11/12/2021 15:05

megustalacerveza everyone is entitled to feel like shit about this, it is horrible for everyone in one way or another.

Gingerbreadhoose · 11/12/2021 15:07

Exactly. People want "I want normality by X date". Understandable, I totally empathise, but it doesn't work like that. Unfortunately, politicians try to do it that way anyway and then when it inevitably goes pear shaped public trust in science is completely undermined.

For me personally I'm not expecting any sort of normality for the forseeable future, and coming to terms with this has helped my anxiety, because I am not constantly expecting things to be better and then getting disappointed.

Poetrypatty · 11/12/2021 15:11

It can't be good for any of our collective mental health to be living with this fear for very close to two years now. Our whole way of life has been changed, and just when we thought we were coming out of it, to be thrown back in like this is especially shit. I think the government messaging, for example the 'no more lock downs' and the getting rid of masks has made things worse.

Brew for us all

Gingerbreadhoose · 11/12/2021 15:15

Yes it absolutely has; Boris with all his "irreversible" bullshit has really not helped.

Thunderpunt · 11/12/2021 15:17

@Toadsinholes for you. We are in similar position, our restaurant tables are cancelling left right and centre at what should be our busiest time of the year. Can't believe we are going to lose another Christmas season.

@LifesTooShortYOLO hold on in there, it's so tough I know.....

Kshhuxnxk · 11/12/2021 15:18

I float from wanting to smash something and wanting to bury myself. My business wont survive another lockdown and we've already lost 69% of our income as DP lost his job. Fucking sick of it and would happily volunteer to be one of the 75000.

Babyroobs · 11/12/2021 15:22

Judging by the high street in my village today, people almost seem to be imposing their own lockdown ? I could not believe it is two weekends before Christmas, there were few people about, local Coop virtually empty, empty parking spaces in places that it's normally impossible to park in ? Has anyone else noticed the same today ?

Prinnny · 11/12/2021 15:23

Yep it’s shit. I’ve deleted my news apps, I just don’t want to know at this point.

I’m lucky I have a big house, no money worries, nice DH, DD and puppy to keep me company but I still feel down about it so god knows how some cope. I just hate the uncertainty and being controlled. I’m triple jabbed and still having my life controlled by this virus 😩

Gingerbreadhoose · 11/12/2021 15:24

Has anyone else noticed the same today ?

Not here, everywhere seems packed to the rafters.

Chloemol · 11/12/2021 15:25

It’s a fast changing worldwide pandemic, something none of us have ever had to live through before, and because it’s fast changing we need to adapt quickly to ensure people, businesses and such as the NHS survive

There is no point in getting het up about it, changes for mitigation's are taking place all over the world, Austria has a full lockdown, look at Holland, Germany etc. Frances mask wearing is much stricter than ours

It’s been said pandemics last at least 4 years so let’s all just do as asked, stop moaning and show that backbone we are supposed to be so famous for

That's almost why I would prefer more restrictions as then they would be forced to offer financial support
