"I should have freedom in what to put into my body"

Hi All

I just wanted to share my thoughts regarding the "I want to have a choice what goes into my body" thing.
I think lots of people (who refuse the vaccine) have lost touch with reality. Yes, everyone should have the freedom to choose to get a vaccine or not - in a perfect world. No doubt about that. However - global pandemic is not the time to be selfish. I was born in a country where there is a compulsory military service, where nearly every male had to go to war for his country regardless of his own political view. My grandfather was called to the frontline at the age of 17, and he went there, as many other boys and men did. Because that was something they had to do for their country, there was no negotiation! And right now we are in war too - but with the virus, so we need to get vaccinated because there is no other way of getting out of this war. People can have very valid individual reasons why they don't want to do it, but unfortunately sometimes we have to do things we don't want for the greater good. I really want to see this "I want to choose what goes into my body" brigade being called into compulsory military service, what would they do then? I am not trying to be rude or shame anyone, but why is it considered OK to prioritise the inviduals' reasons over mass populations'? When people end up in hospitals and doctors inject drugs into their body to keep them alive - I don't see anyone protesting against it, how is the current situation different?
When will these people stop being stroppy children and just get a sodding vaccine so we can all live our lives again?

I do wish people would stop equating war with the virus.

Plus the fact that national service is not something to emulate.

Anyway, the unvaccinated pose the biggest risk to themselves, not others.

EnrouteNOTonroute · 08/12/2021 19:04

Because in this country we don’t do things like compulsory military service and we don’t force vaccines on people. We encourage people yes, and help them make the right choice, but forcing people is wrong.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/12/2021 19:04
Hmm
Hairwizard · 08/12/2021 19:07

Oh ffs.

3cats4poniesandababy · 08/12/2021 19:07

And some countries stone woman because they were raped....... just because somewhere else does something doesn't mean we should do something.

My body my choice. I am double vaccinated but I still do not agree with removing the right for someone to make a choice.
Some once can choose not to have a vaccine and you (if you wish too) can choose to not attend crowded events.

ShaneTheThird · 08/12/2021 19:09

We are not at war.

Compulsory national service isn't something to be proud of its something to be ashamed of.

No I won't risk my health when this vaccine could interact with my health condition and kill me. Why should I potentially die to spare an elderly persons life? How does that make sense?

ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind · 08/12/2021 19:11

😂

TheNoonBell · 08/12/2021 19:11

@ShaneTheThird ok, fair enough. Are you happy to sign the document stating that if you end up needing ICU bed - you are happy to give it up for someone else? No one will offer you to sign it, of course, but hypothetically- would you?

Oh fuck off
This
Animood · 08/12/2021 19:14

Because in this country we have human rights.

Forced medical procedures are a human rights violation. No ifs or buts.

I am pro-vaccine but we cannot breach human rights and force people to get vaccines.

GreenWhiteViolet · 08/12/2021 19:17

I was planning on giving you a serious response until I got to the 'stroppy children' response. You want to vent, not discuss.

WildfirePonie · 08/12/2021 19:17

What if you were forced to have something put in your body, against your will?

Are you cool with that?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/12/2021 19:17

I have no idea where to start with the ridiculousness of this. Sometimes feel as though we're going back to 2020, just with vaccines thrown in.

whatthej3ff · 08/12/2021 19:20

I can't believe what I've just read Confused

Are you being serious?

Flowerlane · 08/12/2021 19:20

Oh great another thread to bash the people who choose not to have the covid vaccine….haven’t seen one of these for a long timeHmm

You have made the choice that you are happy with and I am happy with the choice I have made not to be vaccinated at this stage.

ShaneTheThird · 08/12/2021 19:21

Wtf are you on about? How does your arguement make any sense? You keep basically saying we should die so other people can live instead. Where is the logic?

CouldThisReallyBe · 08/12/2021 19:22

Oh FFS OP - there are a multitude of reasons people choose not to have the vaccine - and not all of them are conspiracy theory related.

You do you!!

mrsnoname · 08/12/2021 19:23

Very poor comparisons OP.
80+ % of the country is fully vaccinated yet we're still in the position of contemplating lockdowns two yrs down the line and the govt's only answer to reinstating some sort of a life which resembles "normal" is to jab the whole population every 4-6 months or even more frequently indefinitely?!
Sorry, not at all convinced!

Rocaille · 08/12/2021 19:24

Agree 100%.

Kshhuxnxk · 08/12/2021 19:25

For disclosure I am fully vaccinated and booster and CEV.

Compulsory military service
Maybe in your country but not in UK

We need to get vaccinated because there is no other way of getting out of this war
Being vaccinated doesn't stop you catching it or passing it on.

People can have very valid individual reasons why they don't want to do it, but unfortunately sometimes we have to do things we don't want for the greater good
No, we really don't.

But why is it considered OK to prioritise the inviduals' reasons over mass populations
Because we live in the UK.

When people end up in hospitals and doctors inject drugs into their body to keep them alive - I don't see anyone protesting against it
That's where an Advance Directive comes in.

Are you happy to sign the document stating that if you end up needing ICU bed - you are happy to give it up for someone else
Nope - I pay my tax & NI as much as they do. Also they may smoke, drink, have children, do dangerous sports - those things make them more likely to end up in ICU.

The END

FflosFfantastig · 08/12/2021 19:25

It's just another pokey post.
