Anyone else think our government took the royal piss last Christmas?

So the whole Downing Street party last year...this has really riled me. They put us all on restrictions against seeing family and friends while they all had a Christmas piss up with wine, cheese and no social distancing.
My MIL spent last Christmas alone 80 miles away as she didn't want to breach any rules, I know she could have come as she lives alone but she didn't believe it was allowed.
Now there's talk of restrictions on this Christmas? Well I'm sorry but I won't be complying with any restrictions over Christmas, I'll be seeing family as planned.
Our government is beyond useless

"Non events of a year ago" is PM's response to Blackford.

RedToothBrush · 08/12/2021 12:22

@KrispyKale

I don't think we can manage civil disobedience tbh.
Civil disobedience need not be riots or street protests

It can be small acts of defiance. Like refusing to adhere to restrictions...

KrispyKale · 08/12/2021 12:23

Oh well that ship has sailed.

How does infecting and harming more British people help anything?

Non events!! I don't think anyone else thinks it was a non event. Bastard.

It does not.

But ideology does not have to make sense if people believe something to be bad.

Whoever leaked this, knew it was likely to cause an issue and encourage certain attitudes.

The timing of it says, it wasn't leaked out of a moral obligation in the public interest to inform the public of how No10 primarily.

What was wrong with the other 11 months of the previous year?

Theres todays meme...
beentoldcomputersaysno · 08/12/2021 12:33

It's a slap in the face, but not a reason to behave as govt does...let's not follow all their other behaviour either - continual lying, affairs, not bothering to make a phone call to save lives, laughing at those suffering, advocating drowning, sewage in rivers, stamping on freedom of speech, no accountability etc.

ftw163532 · 08/12/2021 12:36

People were dying alone last December because of the rules that the government imposed but declined to follow.

And that prick has the nerve to refer to their obscene abuse of power as a "non-event" ?

If the people who are supposed to set an example, whom we're supposed to trust can't follow their own rules, then I absolutely will not comply ever again. They're mocking us and we should just stand by and let them? From now on I look out for my own. I'm sorry if that's not what people want to hear, but it's true. My responsibility for the rest of the country ends today.
vera99 · 08/12/2021 12:37

oh and full post Brexit import controls coming on January 1st - chaos reigns. Utter shitshow. Backbench Tory just stabbed him in the front.....

AdmiralCain · 08/12/2021 12:38

I've posted about this before and been shot down!!
The tories are like a partner who has cheated on us with someone else then apologised and said it will never happen again. Now they've cheated on us for the tenth time and still promising they'll never do it again!! And we lie down and take it and keep thinking the relationship will change. It's getting to the stage where we need to go to the STD clinic and they've given us all the shit from all the crap they've been talking.
These are not fit people to lead us or determine covid policy, if I criticize them on here people tell me I have a bias towards some dystopian future?!

WeatherwaxOn · 08/12/2021 12:39

The government have been taking the pass since they first got in.
I don't know what needs to happen before people demand they are deposed.

vera99 · 08/12/2021 12:39

"I apologise unreservedly for the offence that it has caused up and down the country and I apologise for the impression that it gives.

"But I repeat that I have been repeatedly assured since these allegations emerged that there was no party and that no Covid rules were broken, and that is what I have been repeatedly assured.AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

vera99 · 08/12/2021 12:41

Blackford saying one party happened in PMs flat.

KrispyKale · 08/12/2021 12:49

Sturgeon has her say.

Warhertisuff · 08/12/2021 12:52

Worse than that... It's as though we literally caught them with their pants down shagging the neighbour and they tell us they were just helping the neighbour change the bedding and they just happened "to slip" onto the bed as they did so, so stop being so paranoid!

KrispyKale · 08/12/2021 12:55

Yah, loads of my mates agree it's a non- event.

KrispyKale · 08/12/2021 13:05

The above to be said as Johnson. I wish I'd used quotation marks!

I find this video of Rees-Mogg even more disturbing.
I have no words for this.

RaPumPumPumPum · 08/12/2021 13:17

@Puppylucky

A poster on another thread made the most powerful comment. Ask yourself why the people telling us to be afraid weren't afraid themselves. That's the question that needs to be answered.
Yes and this is why I WILL be spending Christmas with loved one regardless of the rules. Presumably the aides in that video are fine and healthy and had a lovely Christmas 2020, in increasingly doubtful that there’s anything to be afraid of
EdinaMonsoon · 08/12/2021 13:23

I had to turn off PMQs. I couldn't listen to him dodge another question with his stock reply of accusing the opposition of politicking.

I can't believe some people think that this party doesn't matter. It is one of many situations where he has shown complete and utter contempt for the people of the UK and the law. His comment about the party being a non-event made me particularly rageful.

Whyevencare · 08/12/2021 13:29

It seems strange that the mock press conference from last December was filmed in the newly renovated briefing room which wasn't unveiled until February and first used in March Hmm

vera99 · 08/12/2021 13:35

Rumours on Twitter that one of the parties was a Sunak affair - hence Johnson's happy for investigations to take place.
