I haven’t as far as I know and I’m absolutely lost as to how I haven’t as I’m a teacher and loads of our kids and staff have it.

OP posts:
Delatron · 05/12/2021 17:37

Nope. Despite not being particularly careful. Being in close contact to lots of confirmed cases including DS2.

I find it fascinating. You often read threads on here about people being so careful then the first time they venture out they get it in the supermarket.

I wonder whether we either had it asymptomatically in the first wave then got t-cells rather than antibodies. Or the vaccines are doing their job.

I am convinced I’ve been exposed multiple times.

I also had a very strange virus at the end of 2019. Was exhausted for months. I wonder if it was a similar coronavirus that gave some immunity.

I find it all fascinating.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 05/12/2021 17:38

Me, DP and DS2.

DS1 has it right now. Our day 8 PCR tests arrived by post yesterday around the same time as a text message saying DS2 was a close contact. All negative by text this morning, but now DS2 is back on the merry-go-round🙄

Westfacing · 05/12/2021 17:39

@insancerre

I’ve not had it even though I’ve worked in a day nursery throughout the whole thing We have had 1 staff test positive and 1 child both in August
That's interesting - I wonder what's the average for nurseries.
Abraxan · 05/12/2021 17:43

Dh and Dd haven't.

Both have done several covid tests over the year or so and all negative throughout.

They didn't catch it when I had it last year, despite me being pretty ill with, including a hospital stay. We didn't isolate at home abd Dh still slept in the same bed as me.

No idea how Dd has avoided it as she has been in contact with it so many times through me, home friends, at university and more. Plus she has been to festivals, bars, nightclubs and holidays abroad.

Dd has done a couple of antibody tests but all were negative. Last one she did also looked at vaccine antibodies which came back positive - at the time she'd had two vaccines, so expected results.

I almost certainly caught it at school (infant school, 3 form entry) from a pupil. I teach right across school and come into close contact with 270 children a week. Approx 80% of our staff have now had covid - mostly last autumn term, remainder of those who've had it were this autumn term. Several parents and pupils have had it - again mostly last autumn term and this autumn term.

No. I was surprised to read that only 15.3% of the population has.

10,464,389 positive cases to date. (though we didn't test the early ones did we?) from a population of 68,390,701.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 05/12/2021 17:47

Me. I'm a nurse and would have expected to have caught it at some point by now, as I work in a very high acuity area. Unless I possibly have and have been completely asymptomatic.

Againstmachine · 05/12/2021 17:50

Work at a hospital catching public transport and going to pubs once they opened not got It.

Delatron · 05/12/2021 17:50

There were no tests in the first wave so numbers from that would have been high.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 05/12/2021 17:51

Nope primary teacher too. I have had every other virus and cold going this year though!

MLMshouldbeillegal · 05/12/2021 17:54

Nobody in our house has had it, even with three children going to school every day (secondary school) and freely mixing with their friends.

user1497787065 · 05/12/2021 17:55

I haven't and don't know anyone who has.

mammajustkilledagnat · 05/12/2021 17:57

I'm constantly astounded that as a family we've dodges it. One child has nine classmates and teacher off with it at the moment Shock and other child has a couple of classmates off with it. We've all done the quick tests and PCR test this past week and all negative. I thought we'd had it Spring last year as we were all rather poorly, but an antibody test done as part of a study a few months later showed no evidence. Part of me just wants to get it (I know!) to get it over and done with.

hivemindneeded · 05/12/2021 18:00

Not yet, though I had a few symptoms and have a stinking cold so got tested today in case.

boredwithfoodprob · 05/12/2021 18:07

As far as I know I haven’t had it. My brother in law is a paramedic and has been working with covid patients ever since the beginning and he’s never had it either. I think some people have natural immunity

Fridafever · 05/12/2021 18:08

Most people haven’t had it

Idolovetrees · 05/12/2021 18:13

I work in a school and I also haven't had it yet.

TheVampiresWife · 05/12/2021 18:13

In the first couple of months of the first wave cases were estimated as being around 100k a day, but of course the vast majority weren't tested. That's a huge chunk not accounted for in the official figures.

Even so, the vast majority of people haven't had it yet.

Lunificent · 05/12/2021 18:17

Noone in our family has had it as far as I know. I’m a teacher and taught a class of children who’d just returned from a skiing trip to Northern Italy at the start of 2020. I remember coughing a lot and feeling like I had a bar across my chest for 2 weeks.

toomuchlaundry · 05/12/2021 18:18

Currently waiting the results of my first PCR test, as started coughing this weekend. DS has had to do one PCR as a contact from school but that was negative. Have been doing regular LFTs since requested in schools, but have all been negative so far. Always wondered whether DH and DS had it early on last year as were both poorly in the Feb half term, but assume even if they did that their immunity from that has long gone. All vaccinated.

Imposter1 · 05/12/2021 18:20

Me! I can tell because I am part of the ONS study and the only time I had antibodies was immediately after vaccination.

Trinacham · 05/12/2021 18:21

My husband hasn't and most of my family members. Only me, my sister and my nephew (my brother's child, not my sister's). Weird how for all of us we're all from different households and nobody from our own households have caught it.. and none of us got it from the other either.

Whatdoyawannado · 05/12/2021 18:22

DS1, DS2 and DH currently have it. I'm hiding in the bedroom 😬

Againstmachine · 05/12/2021 18:27

That's a huge chunk not accounted for in the official figures.

I don't actually believe the official figures as of we are having 40,000 a day for past so many months over 100 days that's four million, of the figures were right it should be a lot more.

Delatron · 05/12/2021 18:30

About 30% ish are asymptomatic so unless routinely testing at of these won’t be picked up. So if you do the maths off the official figures, add in the millions from the first wave then non official figures will be much, much higher.

Delatron · 05/12/2021 18:30

Random extra ‘at’ ‘of’ in there!
