Feeling so down about this - here we go again!

This is beginning to feel like early March 2020. Social things are being cancelled, face masks are back and the government are meeting tonight to talk about possible further restrictions. Alongside this cases have risen a lot in the last few days.
Apart from the fights over toilet roll, it almost feels like the start again. And we don't even have nice sunny weather. Instead it is cold, dark and miserable.
I have just been feeling so down about it today. Anyone else?

I’m not seeing that? Just had another few events added to the run up to Xmas plus plans to travel still going ahead. Nothing cancelled yet .

julieca · 03/12/2021 18:14

@Oncebittentwice I have had. Yesterday a carol concert was cancelled, today my partners Christmas works party that was supposed to take tonight. My workplace are talking about cancelling the Christmas do as well. And its only been a few days.

Im feeling the same OP, but I think only because I am on here too much... And my friendship group are dropping like flies with Covid and DH has it. I also think I need to cancel my upcoming little holiday as it would ruin DC christmas if I end up isolating.

I think I nearly had a panic attack earlier, just rising dread to the point my colleagues on Teams noticed something was wrong... Yet here I am on MN opening up these threads to make myself feel worse Confused

userxx · 03/12/2021 18:19

I think employers are being ultra cautious. No company wants to be known as holding a covid party. It's shit for the hospitality venues that were holding the parties, feel so sorry for them.

Mycatispretty · 03/12/2021 18:19

Yes I feel the same. My mood is rock bottom. The weather is miserable and once again we are in limbo

julieca · 03/12/2021 18:20

@DialsMavis I agree MN does not help!
At the moment I don't even want to go out and get a tree.

OP posts:
julieca · 03/12/2021 18:21

@Mycatispretty yes I could cope better if it was lovely weather. At least we could enjoy being outside. But by the time I finish work it is dark, and at the weekend it was so cold.

No, I'm not seeing that.

I'm on the train going into the city centre for a Christmas night out. Dd is having her birthday party at the weekend. We have lots of Christmas plans this year.
I'm past feeling down about covid.

Dancingalong · 03/12/2021 18:23

Yep, my kids tested positive today. After no school isolations throughout its suddenly rife in their primary school. My birthday this weekend and lots of plans now cancelled. Most of the school Christmas events have been cancelled too. Feeling pretty gutted 😞

julieca · 03/12/2021 18:25

@ParkheadParadise sure you can do things with your family. But I am not the only person who is experiencing others cancelling events. There is nothing I can do about that. Its not me making a choice.

FrownedUpon · 03/12/2021 18:31

Same. Covid is rife in schools here-everyone’s dropping like flies.

Our Xmas party has been cancelled & another meal out has just been pulled.

DaisyNGO · 03/12/2021 18:31

Some nasty git on the Tube picked on a woman not wearing a mask. I got involved...I probably shouldn't but but he was shouting how she legally has to wear something to show exemption, which is a lie, and she looked completely upset etc

He then made a racist remark to me.

This was after a lunch where half the restaurant was sectioned off for an office party, at least 20.

They never turned up.

MissAmbrosia · 03/12/2021 18:31

In Belgium they have announced Primary schools will shut 1 week early. Secondary schools will move back to hybrid model. We are encouraged to form a bubble with those we want to spend Xmas with and avoid too much socialising -particularly indoors. Dd has exams in one week's time and is now even more stressed. Science and hybrid don't go so well. The travel measures are causing havoc with people's xmas plans as they are so confusing - most people would travel to UK and back via France. I am not feeling the joy this year.

julieca · 03/12/2021 18:35

I know two teachers, personal friends with covid. It must be affecting their classes.
@MissAmbrosia that sounds very difficult for your daughter.

Feels nothing like March 2020

CloudyStorms · 03/12/2021 18:48

When will it end

julieca · 03/12/2021 18:51

@CloudyStorms that is how I feel!

Littlemiss74 · 03/12/2021 18:51

@julieca where did you see the govt are meeting tonight to talk about poss new restrictions?

Sunflowersinthewind · 03/12/2021 18:52

Where did you read about the government meeting tonight please?

Silverswirl · 03/12/2021 18:52

Yup. From the news today I can just see it all getting cancelled- Christmas school carols / plays/ panto from last year, ice skating for the kids from last year, Christmas lights and Santa for the kids from last year all cancelled for a second year. It hasn’t happened yet but I am so down as it just feels headed that way.
Really hope I’m wrong

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2021 18:52

It really does not feel like March 2020 Confused

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 03/12/2021 18:53

Nope, not seeing that at all. Carol concert at school last night, very festive and everyone in good spirits. Nativity on Monday, green light for that. Christmas meal booked for tomorrow with extended family. No change here. And no one enforcing masks in the shops either, at least not the places I've been to 🤷🏻‍♀️

julieca · 03/12/2021 18:54

I saw it on the msm newsfeed. It doesn't mean there will be new restrictions yet, but it said they are meeting to talk about it.

I’m just hoping people keep their heads and don’t start panic buying again I think that might tip me over the edge!
Both our work Christmas parties are cancelled, a pantomime we were going to has cancelled as has an outdoor Christmas event (!) in town.
I feel so sad for DS he’s just coming up to two and I feel like his entire life has been this weird hamster wheel is restrictions. I know he doesn’t know any different (although he definitely has issues being in big crowds and gets overwhelmed by lots of people or busy environments now as it’s so alien to him) but I was feeling really optimistic about this upcoming Christmas and now I’m not.
I’m not panicking, I’m not scare mongering, I just feel a bit down but am hopeful we will still get to spend the holidays with our family up north this year.
Let’s hope it’s a good thing that people are being cautious.

CloudyStorms · 03/12/2021 18:55
@CloudyStorms that is how I feel!
It's just so hard for me to comprehend that this is life now. First lockdown it was like oh ok a temporary emergency thing but people are still dying and it's still in the back of my mind when I meet elderly relatives to be cautious. I am fed up of living like this but also don't want to kill anyone.
