Feeling so down about this - here we go again!

This is beginning to feel like early March 2020. Social things are being cancelled, face masks are back and the government are meeting tonight to talk about possible further restrictions. Alongside this cases have risen a lot in the last few days.
Apart from the fights over toilet roll, it almost feels like the start again. And we don't even have nice sunny weather. Instead it is cold, dark and miserable.
I have just been feeling so down about it today. Anyone else?

OP posts:
weddingguesttbc · 03/12/2021 18:55

@julieca where did you read they are meeting to talk about more restrictions??

CloudyStorms · 03/12/2021 18:56

@julieca

I saw it on the msm newsfeed. It doesn't mean there will be new restrictions yet, but it said they are meeting to talk about it.
They need to hurry up and decide what they are doing
weddingguesttbc · 03/12/2021 18:57

@julieca can you link to it? Can't se it anywhere

Would they really hold a Friday night meeting about that?!

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2021 18:57

Well I would hope they are continually meeting to talk about it TBH, I'm sure they don't talk about it on set days.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/12/2021 18:58

@julieca

I know two teachers, personal friends with covid. It must be affecting their classes. *@MissAmbrosia* that sounds very difficult for your daughter.
Well of course. I had covid, my class had 5 different teachers over the 10 days. Then the class all started catching it, and my TA... and her kids, and the classes that those kids are in. Then a class bubble closed. Today I had 9 kids in.

But, a small win - my co2 monitor turned up yesterday. It was on red by 9.20 this morning.

Topseyt · 03/12/2021 18:59

I don't think it is anything like March 2020.

I'm not into parties, but I'm still seeing things like ads for local pantomimes and other things that are going ahead.

I was in town today and apart from seeing a few more masks everything was normal. Even a big improvement on summer 2020.

catfunk · 03/12/2021 19:02

No I don't feel like that at all.
Out office party is going ahead and we're all taking LFTs before and it's a private venue. Fully expecting a had full of people to be isolating/ have to cancel but what can you do.

I know a few people/ colleagues with Covid atm but they aren't anywhere near as poorly as folk were getting in 2020. I don't feel worried but at the same time I don't mind wearing a mask and taking extra precautions.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2021 19:02

In March 2020 Boris announced these measures-

people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household;
any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.

Nothing like December 2021.

Mabelbabelle · 03/12/2021 19:03

Totally feel your pain. DD1 has Covid and so we’re in isolation. She’ll miss her school nativity and our visit to Santa.

Even when things aren’t cancelled I feel you can’t really look forward to them as there’s always the risk you won’t be able to go because you’re isolating. I’m almost scared to tell the kids about fun activities we’ve got planned because I don’t want to keep disappointing them

PurpleDaisies · 03/12/2021 19:03

It felt absolutely normal in town today.

Beechwood · 03/12/2021 19:03

I work with schools and it is crazy out there. In some ways, this news now is nothing different to what I already know in terms of the amount of school staff and children ill.
Lots of cancelling events. I'm not inviting my parents again this year. Far too risky, a different school everyday up to the end of term, some with classes with as many as 73% of children ill with COVID. I can't pass that on.

PuppyMonkey · 03/12/2021 19:08

Feels absolutely nothing like March 2020, Covid is not even the top story on the news today.Confused

Thethreecs · 03/12/2021 19:09

I'm in Ireland and our cases are going up too. My town had 2k cases this week, sounds small but it's alot for the size of it.

Dds special school has 18 cases, she's currently out having picked up a virus as an inpatient but she has to return next week. One of dss colleges has 40 cases and he still has to go in. One of our secondary schools has 10 cases and dd was sent home today and told to get a PCR. it's fine as mine are vaccinated except disabled dd so that's a blooming worry. Masks are still mandatory here too.

Our government have their heads in sand and have said they'll close nightclubs Hmm it's great for those with no health worries but when your family have a shit ton of health conditions it's frightening and if another person tells me we'll be grand it's like a cold, I'll deck them.

Our minister for education keeps saying kids are not getting it, hmm different story speaking to dds surgeon the other week who told us the hospital is rife with kids with it. She actually found 15 positive cases before surgery (they have to have a PCR beforehand), imagine passing it to other sick kids and staff.

No one cares, no one gives a damn. I'm now just keeping my mouth shut, cancelling everything except our own little family here for Christmas, I'm not taking any chances and if people are happy to do as they please, that's great but no one better tell me I'm panicking over nothing.

Dh can't get his booster till January, he has RA. they are only vaccinating over 70s for the booster now. Mil and fil were done this week and they're in their 80s.

Whats annoying me is, our numbers are much higher than last year, we are still expected to work, school, travel on public transport as normal etc we're not like the UK where many can work from home. But at the same time to stay safe🙄🙄

Secondtimemama31 · 03/12/2021 19:12

Bit dramatic.

vera99 · 03/12/2021 19:15

From 7th December-9th January in Ireland
nightclubs to close
Social distancing in restaurants- table service only
Masks worn when not at table
Max of 50% capacity at cultural/sporting events
Covid pass required for gyms
Max of three households for indoor household mixing

AuntMargo · 03/12/2021 19:20

No, I am not down at all, what will be will be. I am carrying on as normal.

LadyLazarus40 · 03/12/2021 19:20

I’ve changed my user name as I don’t want this linked to my posting history but I agree it’s like being at square 1 again - I’m feeling really down.

I’ve had my booster (and Covid back in Aug 2020). I work in a secondary school - staff and pupils have it. My dc had their GCSEs and a levels canx last summer and have had to sacrifice so much over the last 2 years. One dc is supposed to be travelling to a European country in a couple of days for something they have been looking forward to for a long time and im so anxious they won’t be able to travel.

I just don’t know if I can keep doing this (of course the reality is that I will keep doing this). Im so anxious - I just want my children to have a happy carefree future and things to look forward to.

And it makes me really cross seeing influencers on Insta jetting off to a different country every 48 hours and never getting Covid.

I just want to know there is hope

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 03/12/2021 19:26

And we certainly won't be changing our family Christmas plans no matter what the government decides on our behalf.

Naughtynovembertree · 03/12/2021 19:32

Well after we are all boosted and our dc have already recently had covid and one jab, I'll still have our one triple boosted guest over.
However I did see somewhere that we have five years off this?
Surley not!!

Chloemol · 03/12/2021 19:39

Some firms seem to be cancelling events, but lots are still going ahead

That said i have been to a local event, ok mainly outside but very large crowds, all standing literally on top of each other, and lots of kids (that don’t mix at school) and about 6 people wearing masks. so I wouldn’t be surprised if we get an increase

I just think is people take care ,do as asked , think about others then we can just continue with Christmas

At least we are not Austria and in lockdown

vera99 · 03/12/2021 19:41

If only we had a truly Churchillian leader that could inspire us with his rhetoric and actions. Sad

MumbleCrumbs · 03/12/2021 19:45

@vera99

From 7th December-9th January in Ireland nightclubs to close Social distancing in restaurants- table service only Masks worn when not at table Max of 50% capacity at cultural/sporting events Covid pass required for gyms Max of three households for indoor household mixing
There's just no way this is as mild as they are saying to take measures like this.
weddingguesttbc · 03/12/2021 19:46

@MumbleCrumbs cases in Ireland were going up and restrictions coming back even pre new variant

MumbleCrumbs · 03/12/2021 19:48

Sorry I'm just feeling a bit panicked. I am CV and was so scared for such a long time it was so nice feeling a bit normal again.

vixeyann · 03/12/2021 19:51

Yes, I feel like this. Cases in our county are double the national average, have been for weeks. Cases at our primary in all classes. I've had to test son twice in the last 2 weeks. All Christmas stuff cancelled so I wish they would just shut the schools early so we at least have a chance of not getting ill over Christmas. Pretending it's not rocketing and trying to carry on just isn't working at the moment.
