Feeling so down about this - here we go again!

This is beginning to feel like early March 2020. Social things are being cancelled, face masks are back and the government are meeting tonight to talk about possible further restrictions. Alongside this cases have risen a lot in the last few days.
Apart from the fights over toilet roll, it almost feels like the start again. And we don't even have nice sunny weather. Instead it is cold, dark and miserable.
I have just been feeling so down about it today. Anyone else?

@julieca

And I agree with that. I said if there is panic buying, and there might be, it wont happen till mid to late January. And I don't think it will last long.
'If'. Exactly. And I don't think there will be any. So we disagree, which is ok. It really doesn't matter.
Halene · 04/12/2021 12:26
@danorak it was in my msm newsfeed. If there were no decisions made, it wont I suspect be in the news now.
What's a "Mainstream Media News Feed?"

Where do you find it?

There was no COBRA meting last night.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2021 12:27

Did they mean MSN maybe?

MumbleCrumbs · 04/12/2021 13:15

I've been in bits all morning. This uncertainty is completely crippling me.

julieca · 04/12/2021 13:37

I posted the link sparkling brook.

@MumbleCrumbs poor you. I am finding the uncertainty hard. I always deal much better with knowing what is happening, even if it is awful.

The only way is to literally take each day at a time which is a massive cliche, I know. Worrying all the time about what may or may not happen is horrible.. Would it help to talk it over with your GP for some reassurance?
MumbleCrumbs · 04/12/2021 14:12

I know you're right Sparkling and I'm really trying to keep calm and have perspective but I spent so much of 2020 literally terrified I was going to die and struggled so much. I can't even process the idea of going back to that.

julieca · 04/12/2021 14:15

It seems so infectious I suspect we will all get it at some point. I would focus on getting your booster, that does offer real protection.

I get that. I have a CEV relative and their GP said at the start to them 'you really don't want to get this' which really rattled them. So far they haven't, but with the new variant they don't want to go anywhere or do anything unnecessary and risk things. They have to attend hospital appointments weekly which is enough for them.
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 04/12/2021 14:20

For some of this it's no different to the last 12 months or longer. I'm immunosuppressed and my dc have been wearing masks to school for ages. Despite being fully vaccinated I have hardly any antibodies. So no plans to cancel.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 04/12/2021 14:21

Some of us not this.

luckylavender · 04/12/2021 14:22

We never booked a Christmas Party to start with. It's so depressing but so obvious that the Pandemic wasn't over. Opening up with no restrictions was madness and there has been a huge amount of virus circulating since, completely unlike last year when the cases had been driven down. Heaven knows what state the NHS will end up in and what effect this will have on all aspects of our physical and mental health. Also World Leaders need to come together and vaccinate the World, otherwise we'll never be free.

ElectraBlue · 04/12/2021 14:24

Frankly the scaremongering media and the media-hungry 'experts' are making things worse for everyone.

Every time we have the same circus when a new variant comes up, wild claims being made without waiting for actual data/evidence.

The best thing is to stop reading every tabloid scare story and to wait until there are actual facts.

The Sage so called experts have pretty much be wrong about everything at this stage...

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/12/2021 14:29

We will all get it at some point, of course we will. As i mentioned above, my DH's colleague has Omnicrom after travelling from Africa. Only found out because of the travel testing. He feels ok apart from being a bit tired. He had COVID very recently, only in October. Current advice is that people who have had COVID less than 90 days ago can't have a PCR. So how the bloody hell are people going to know if they have Omnicron or not if they're not testing anyone who's had the Delta variant COVID recently, and Omnicron symptoms are so mild (possibly even asymptomatic).

It has potential to test very rapidly amongst people who've had COVID very recently in my view as they won't be testing unless they've jut arrived in the country.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2021 14:30

I agree that the tabloids are relentless in their efforts to scare everyone. headlines declaring things are 'very worrying' when there's no evidence for it. All very clickbaity.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/12/2021 14:31

So then you'll have asymptomatic Omnicron carriers not having a clue they've got it, carrying on with daily life as normal. Huge and rapid spread potential.

I really don't think we can try and contain it. I've got from thinking this in the first wave, to thinking now that we just have to live with it. We can't go on and on isolating for ever more every time a new variant arrives.

Joystir59 · 04/12/2021 14:34

I've got all sorts lined up, planning to do all of it and will be mightily peed off if any of it get cancelled! Can't stand all the Omicron hype.

Joystir59 · 04/12/2021 14:35

Numbers of cases are currently falling rapidly where I live.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2021 14:36

Which is why as individuals we can take whatever precautions we see fit to try and not catch it.Not necessarily isolating completely, just being cautious and thinking about it. If you intentionally go to a large gathering inside (like a concert or a big party) then I think it's fair to say there's a good chance you could contract it.

julieca · 04/12/2021 14:39

@CurlyhairedAssassin the problem is that if it does affect young children more, we soon wont have enough paediatric beds.

I guess that's why they'll probably soon advise EVERYONE to be vaccinated.

But that's more 'ifs', so many ifs everywhere. We just don't know what problems will arise yet, if any.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/12/2021 20:07

@DaisyNGO thank you. It could be worse I guess

Northsoutheastwest76 · 05/12/2021 23:32

Bare in mind back in early March 2020 we had no knowledge of the virus or how it would behave and little idea of treatment options.
The medics now know more and we have vaccinations and treatments.
