If you could choose Pfizer or Moderna for your booster…

… which one would you have and why?

I’ve got the option of either this week and can’t decide.

My original 2 vax were pfizer, if i get a choice for my booster, i'd go moderna

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 02/12/2021 21:32

@SecretKeeper1

Oh don’t worry *@NovemberNovemberDarkNights*, I’m definitely getting it next week! I’ve got two walk in centres same distances away, each doing the different jabs, hence the thread. Grateful for either!!
@SecretKeeper1

Oh that's good!!

I was just responding to this

I could have had it today, but I just haven’t got time this side of Christmas to be floored by it!
& thought you meant you were delaying until the New Year!

I'm glad I didn't have to choose

GoodnightGrandma · 02/12/2021 21:34

Pfizer. Everyone I know that has had Moderna have had side effects.

SecretKeeper1 · 02/12/2021 21:36

No no, defo having it asap. I favoured Moderna but got spooked by a couple people saying the booster floored them, which seems to be echoed in this thread. My older family members have had Pfizer, as have my kids, and they’ve all been fine afterwards, so on balance I think I’ll go for that one.

I had 2 Moderna and felt awful for 3 days, I believe if you have a Moderna booster it's only 1/2 a dose if you've already had the Moderna vaccine, hopefully lessening the side effects.

cobblers123 · 02/12/2021 21:49

I had AZ for first two jabs, no side effects at all.

Had Moderna booster last week and had sore arm, couldn't raise above shoulder height for a day and painful armpit which lasted 3 to 4 days before it disappeared. Very uncomfortable.

Rollerbird · 02/12/2021 21:52

I had 2 az and a moderna booster on Sunday. Achy arm (not bad) only side effect

pickingdaisies · 02/12/2021 22:00

Had the moderna after az jabs. My arm was really sore especially when I went to bed. @Mistymountain I barely slept for three nights after the booster and when I did, I had very weird dreams, so not just you. I also had an itchy arm and a rash at the injection site so I sent in a yellow card report. Fine after that, in fact a very sudden recovery after the three days.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 02/12/2021 22:47

@SecretKeeper1. Either will give your system a really good boost so you can't go wrong!

I'd probably go with the highest protection over the side effects, but I'm not sure it makes much difference!!

Hope you feel ok afterwards

SecretKeeper1 · 02/12/2021 23:23

Thanks, November! I don’t think there’s much in it either, but anecdotally it does seem quite a few people have had a strong reaction to Moderna. The reason I favoured it initially was because of the people I know who had Moderna for jab1&2, not one has had covid yet. A smaller sample size than AZ or Pfizer though, so this thread has been useful.

Moderna because I’ve had Pfizer. I’d happily take either.

Lupinhere37 · 03/12/2021 04:20

I had Moderna after two AZ, just yesterday evening. Currently awake, 9 hours later, as feeling a bit nauseous. My arm is very stiff and a bit sore; not the same as the pain I had with AZ, so far.
Six hours after the AZ I had full on flu symptoms, which floored me for 72 hours. I then felt “off” for a week. With second dose of AZ, totally fine.
This Moderna booster so far is nothing like the first AZ experience, so hoping that continues.
If anything changes, I’ll update you op!
Btw, I thought that I’d get Pfizer for my booster, as the centre I attended had only been doing Pfizer for months. When I got there, it was Moderna only. So I suppose you may end up with no option.

simbobs · 03/12/2021 08:33

I had Moderna yesterday after AZ for original jabs. No ill effects with any of them. Moderna has been proven to give a stronger antibody response, if that helps. Not everyone who is vaccinated has any side effects at all. We seem to have more respondents on MN that do, but that may not be representative.

I've just had Moderna after two Pfizers back in May. I also had covid 4 weeks ago. I feel pretty rubbish this evening to be honest. Same headache as the covid headache.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 04/12/2021 19:32

I had Moderna after two AZ. Practically no side effects with AZ. Moderna booster gave me 24hrs of proper flu-like symptoms, weak, wobbly, sleeping, cough, aches and a mild fever. Was fine again after that though nearly two weeks later my arm still hurts a bit.

I wasn't given a choice - are you sure you will be? No-one at my booster clinic was being given a choice - we were just allocated whichever one by a colour on the list of names, so presumably there were medical/age reasons for who got which?

Hope whichever you get doesn't give you side effects. Though I felt comforted that at least they showed it was doing something. I felt a bit odd about not having any from AZ lol

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/12/2021 19:37

I'd rather have AZ again but as that's not an option I want Pfizer and will probably rebook if I can only have Moderna. I want to find out before hand so I don't waste an appointment but I don't know if that's possible.

(Please note I have a needle phobia and there is very little rational thought going on here!)

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 04/12/2021 19:44

I would rather have Pfizer. I had AZ, but everyone else in my family had Pfizer and none of them had any side effects, so that's the only reason. But I would take anything that's offered.

gofg · 05/12/2021 07:17

I had no choice, it's Pfizer all the way in my country. No side effects from any of my jabs (3).

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 05/12/2021 07:25

Mine was a third primary not 'The Booster' as such, and it was such a shit show of a roll-out where I live in England that I was glad of anything in the end.

I would have picked Pfizer because of the dosing issues around Moderna for 3rd/booster jabs; and luckily Pfizer is what I was offered.

My arm bruised really badly for some reason, but overall I felt fine.

SallyOMalley · 05/12/2021 07:25

I had my booster on Friday and was given Pfizer - no choice. By the evening and most of Saturday I felt lethargic and headachy.

My first two jabs were AZ. Felt absolutely terrible after the first (just like the flu I had a few years ago) and just a bit "off' after the second.

It's funny how people have different responses to the jab. I have a flu jab every year since I was poorly with it (not doing that again) and I sort of expected to just a feel the same after the covid jab: a bit off but not much more. The first jab floored me.

mrsbyers · 05/12/2021 07:27

I had moderna , no major side effects but I am immune suppressed - husband had same three days later and was floored by flu like symptoms and had to take two days sick leave which he never does

luckylavender · 05/12/2021 07:30

@fakereview - you can't have AZ as a booster
