our christmas meal cancelled!!!!

i'm SO annoyed. i have don't absolutely everything and complied with everything this whole time but i am getting SO fed up with having my own happiness and needs taken away.
christmas smell CANCELLED and employer asked we don't meet outside work until 2022.
christmas new cancelled last year. i'm a single mum and barry get any interaction from anyone. i was SO looking forward to this :(
i know there's no point to this but how bloody long can this go on for?!?!?!!!!

I know it's so bloody frustrating isn't it! Ours is next Thursday and I'm praying they don't cancel as I've bought a lovely dress for it and it will be the first time I have met my colleagues in person!

I can't see why they can't just insist on LFTs on the day?? Although I have just had covid and have lots of lovely antibodies so I'm not too worried at the moment.

Why have work cancelled it? I thought the only new rules were masks in certain indoor spaces, but not bars or restaurants? I'm sorry, its rubbish. Sometimes it feels like it's going to be dragged out for ever!

Lots of work places have, I have had one cancelled, was more of a night our drinks in a bar type of affair.

The meal for 15 people in the day time is still going ahead. Most companies I know have also enforced working from home.

I think it’s a mix of not wanting the workforce all of sick and trying to be seen to do the “right” thing

Yep, I think that’s definitely the plan Scaremonger while doing F All official so whatever does/doesn’t happen isn’t his fault His whole career is based on “another boy did it then ran away”

I think it’s because businesses are worried about them going off sick all at once or all contacts now having to isolate with the new variant that’s now in the U.K. More a business decision.

A member of staff on my team got married earlier in the year and covid knocked some of the team who attended out the week after including the bride. So staff group gatherings can affect the workplace. Although they knew that anyway.

Probably a good thing to avoid nights out or your Christmas smell may very well end up cancelled.

The only one I've heard of being cancelled is in a hospital. They decided they couldn't risk it spreading as they struggled so much last year with staff off sick and of course the risk of spreading it to patients. I can understand why they made that decision.

I think it must be particularly annoying with the stories of Christmas parties at No 10 last year.

Well that won’t go down well as they’ve been specifically asked not to and if there was an outbreak amongst those who go or just one person with suspected omicron meaning all close contacts have to isolate, will it?

We've cancelled ours today (or at least postponed it to February). It's on 16 December and we already had lots of people pulling out because they were concerned about getting caught and having to isolate over Christmas and missing seeing family, so we decided it was best to do it properly early next year than have a half-attended do where we lost a lot of money. Sucks for everyone but I can see the logic. I'm sorry OP :(

@JanglyBeads your work cannot stop social meet ups that you decide to arrange cog your own volition. Nor should they try to.

There are barely any cases of Omicron in the U.K., I suspect it’s being used to put the willies up us a bit so we behave ourselves and have another conservative Christmas to make things easier for the NHS.

A small group meeting for a Christmas jolly isn’t going to change anything.

We cancelled ours, due to be on the 14th. I'm not risking Christmas with my family by having lunch with my colleagues. Sorry, but I was miserable at being alone last year, I can see my colleagues another time.

I work at a school, and a group of us had planned on a meal this weekend however we have made the choice to postpone until after Christmas. We have had a large outbreak resulting in the school closing, it's not safe and we would rather keep each other healthy x

I feel your pain. We had worked hard to set up a Christmas event that worked for everyone - with most of it outdoors at a Christmas market or online. But then I got told I'd have to complete lots of extra risk assessment forms, and it clashed with the strike (I work in a university) so some people didn't want to join in online as it technically counts as work time. So in the end I gave up

That's rubbish OP. Our Christmas meal is going ahead as it stands for 100 staff on the basis that we are mingling everyday anyway. I'm grateful for the decision and obviously people can choose not to attend if they prefer.

My dh's workplace are pressing ahead with theirs because they believe that the staff need it, particularly the younger ones. It is a very difficult balance to find - many are content at home with no social stuff, others are driven to suicide by the isolation.
