CornedBeef451 · 02/12/2021 13:06

I just managed to get out going to mine as I am the office grinch.

Sorry yours has been cancelled though.

HailAdrian · 02/12/2021 13:08

Fucking sick to death of this shit, I'm going to a gig in 2 weeks and if it gets cancelled, I'll be so sad!

jputthekettleon · 02/12/2021 13:10

Not the same but we can’t go see our 4 year olds nativity play now, even with masks on. So we’ve never seen any nursery events and can’t get that time back. Not a big deal to anyone else but is to us. I’m gutted

BoredZelda · 02/12/2021 13:21

I wish they would cancel ours. Having to continually explain why I’m not going to endure a crap plate of overpriced Christmas food with people I wouldn’t normally choose to socialise with, it getting on my nerves.

Rade · 02/12/2021 13:21

@WheelieBinPrincess

Can you not set something up unofficially for those that want to? That’s what I would do.
This happened to DS23. His entire career has been WFH and he was really looking forward to actually meeting people at a big work do. Booked a hotel and was going to work in the office for the one day, as were his team. Party cancelled and no-one else is going in so he can't even go out for a meal with his small team.
MLMshouldbeillegal · 02/12/2021 13:22

And employer asked we don't meet outside work until 2022

Well they can fuck off with that, can't they? Because they have no right to dictate what you do in your spare time.

Babyroobs · 02/12/2021 13:23

We are small team , mostly either over 50 or at risk so didn't even plan one for this reason.

BoredZelda · 02/12/2021 13:24

So we’ve never seen any nursery events and can’t get that time back. Not a big deal to anyone else but is to us. I’m gutted

Something else I’m glad we missed. Saved from the last two years of primary Christmas Carol shows. Nearly an hour and half of watching 12 classes of kids “singing” Christmas songs, just for the 5 minutes your child is on stage at the back so you can’t see them, and even if you could, you’re at the back of the hall and can’t see the stage.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 02/12/2021 13:25

Oh FGS. We're all sick of it. But that's not going to make it go away.

Because they have no right to dictate what you do in your spare time.

Well, actually, legally 'they' can. Who do you think the 'they' are?

Take a bit of personal responsibility instead of blaming 'them'.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 02/12/2021 13:26

I'd tell them to piss off on the 'dont meet outside work' point. In fact I'd make a point of organising a meet!! They can't dictate what you do outside of work hours ffs

missingeu · 02/12/2021 13:26

I'm sorry it's been cancelled.

Am hoping ours is going ahead as it's been the worst 2 years since we've had one, also ICU covid unit. We definately need it.

HuntingoftheSnark · 02/12/2021 13:28

Ours was cancelled today as well. We're still mainly WFH but have been told to wear masks in the office unless we're sitting at our desks. And like OP, told not to meet up until 2022.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 02/12/2021 13:29

@minmooch

Businesses can't cope with people being off any more. Our business is on its knees - construction industry and busiest time of year trying to get everyone moved in to their new homes by their legal completion. Our clients don't want to/can't miss their legal completions if we don't turn up. If we are off due to Covid caught at social gathering we won't get return business.

I'm sorry it's hard but we all need to keep our jobs.

Unless you work in hospitality
NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 02/12/2021 13:30

Ours is still going ahead, just been told to take precautions, lateral flow beforehand, sanitise hands, don't turn up if you symptoms obviously.

megletthesecond · 02/12/2021 13:32

I think it's because people don't want to be ill over Xmas. I turned down an Xmas meal with fiends and work to reduce the risk of catching anything. I can't see my family over Xmas if I get ill. My kids would be stuck here too.

thevassal · 02/12/2021 13:33

Ours is still going ahead atm ( fingers crossed). I'm the same - new job, been wfh since I started and was looking forward to actually meeting my colleagues (and just interacting in real life with anyone really!) Are we going to do this whenever there's a new variant (so forever....?)

Dollywilde · 02/12/2021 13:33

Good for you. For some of us, watching our children’s nativities are among the most treasured memories. I’d have been gutted to lose the opportunity to have those. Try and have some empathy.
eastegg · 02/12/2021 13:35

@MrsLarry

Don't you have any friends you can go out with instead? Personally I'd rather spend time with real friends than people I spend all day with during the week.
What an unhelpful post.

OP obviously wants to see her colleagues otherwise she wouldn’t have been looking forward to it and wouldn’t be posting.

I’m sure it will make her feel better to hear that they are not real friends.

FflosFfantastig · 02/12/2021 13:37

God forbid we should have some joy in our lives OP. It really is soul sapping isn't it.

So are you saying an employer can say who we can and can't spend time with outside of work?
Gonnagetgoing · 02/12/2021 13:43

I've just ordered 2 festive season tops and our Christmas party (at a bowling alley in a big shopping centre in London) is in almost 2 weeks time. I am fully expecting it to be cancelled too.

One of my bosses her team just had her Xmas meal this Monday just gone and a friend her DH had his company Xmas meal last night too so I guess they're early enough that they can mitigate the risks.

Gonnagetgoing · 02/12/2021 13:45

@NotMyselfWithoutCoffee

That's what I thought? Surely a lot of venues would just advise a lateral flow test beforehand, don't go if symptoms and they'll test you (temperature) and ensure you sanitise hands on arrival?

I did hear that in clubs there's no social distancing or mask wearing, is that true?

HelplesslyHoping · 02/12/2021 13:45

Good! Lives>Dry turkey with colleagues

Alltheblue · 02/12/2021 13:46

I really do not understand why there is mass hysteria and panic yet again.

I see no signs of hysterical commenting or decision making. What counts as hysterical to you?

Incidentally, are you aware that most people having been vaccinated is only relevant if the vaccine is effective against a specific pathogen?

Alltheblue · 02/12/2021 13:46

Or was that fact too hysterical...
