Fuck me but this government are crap though.

skodadoda · 30/11/2021 16:40

Very conveniently the press conference has been timed so that Johnson doesn’t have to be in the HOC where there is a debate about Tory sleaze!

Redcrayons · 30/11/2021 16:46

@idiotfacelicker

Can anyone summarise anything useful said for those of us that can't bear to listen to Johnson speak?
Boosters down to 3 months after your last one. Wait for your GP to contact you, we should have everyone done by end of Jan. Masks in places other than shops, no blah blah blah Work from home order, no blah blah blah No more lockdowns - no but maybe yes The storm was awful France/ Migrant crisis - oh well time is up

I just clocked this too. Call me cynical 🤨
MumbleCrumbs · 30/11/2021 16:48

He's already softening the wording re lockdown. Great.

theemperorhasnoclothes · 30/11/2021 16:49

@CorrBlimeyGG

"Even if you're eligible, don't go for a booster because we decided to close most of the vaccine centres. You might get your jab by the end of January..."
By which point, if Omicron is a problem, it'll certainly be too late.

It gets to the point of just being a farce.

Get boosted, but you can't get boosted.

Wear masks, but only in the lowest exposure environments because if we say anything else the bully boy back benchers might beat me up.

Any doctors and nurses watching this must just despair. Actually I hope they don't, for their mental health.

the80sweregreat · 30/11/2021 16:52

Well, I guess it's soft on lockdown because they haven't had the data yet ..
if it's really mild and nobody ends up in hospital then I guess they will have to see how it pans out etc ?
I'm no fan of this government, but any sniff of lockdowns Christmas is cancelled or whatever and the press would go into overdrive !
Hedging their bets is the way forward for a while I suppose ..

summary right there
PrincessNutNuts · 30/11/2021 16:52

@mommydragonn

I am wondering whether they will come on on the 17th and say schools will not be opening in Jan.
Let people know ahead of time so schools and parents can make arrangements? Nah.
tootyfruitypickle · 30/11/2021 16:54

No way they can possibly close schools with vaccines and antivirals. That'd be absolutely insane

Kate3150 · 30/11/2021 16:55

Missed the press conference. Can anyone summarise? X

theemperorhasnoclothes · 30/11/2021 16:55

It seems very unfair and also probably bad in terms of hospitalisations and deaths that your highly exposed 49 year old teacher who is 5.5 months past their first dose with rapidly waning immunity can't get a booster now, but a healthy 20 year old will be able to get one at 3 months in January.

the80sweregreat · 30/11/2021 16:55

This is very similar ( ish ) to Feb / March 2020.
I know we have a vaccine / boosters , but if they don't work on this new variant and it becomes a big problem, I'm sure things might change again ?
Let's hope not and it'll be fine though.

plinkplinkfizzer · 30/11/2021 16:59

I did notice no mention at all of regular testing , seems they don't push it .

They can close schools when there aren't enough teachers to open safely though. And it's already happening (or at least year groups being sent home)
CorrBlimeyGG · 30/11/2021 17:03

we should have everyone done by end of Jan.

Later clarified to mean everyone should have an appointment by end of Jan.

But they’re only a couple weeks away, and he said it will be reduced to 3 months, so assuming availability locally could be as soon as next week. The 20 year old is taking the jab away from the teacher.
Redcrayons · 30/11/2021 17:08

*isnt

Thewiseoneincognito · 30/11/2021 17:10

At this stage it’s clear they don’t know what to do exactly because they don’t know exactly what we’re facing.

I just hope the second they see any sign in the data this could be a problem and our immunity is compromised irrespective of boosters that immediate WFH and social distancing measures are introduced.

containsnuts · 30/11/2021 17:13

Saying that we're one the most boosted nations in the world is not reassuring, IMO. Where's the safety data? Jab us all and see what happens? We've all had different vaccine types, at different intervals (3 weeks, 12 weeks or 8 weeks) now boosters at 6 months or 3 months or whenever. How do we know what combination is most effective or least risky?

SickAndTiredAgain · 30/11/2021 17:52

How is that unfair? Until a few days ago, 6 months was considered fine for the gap, it makes no difference to the teacher you describe if, after they have their booster dose in a few weeks, a 20 year old gets one in January. They haven’t chosen it so older people must wait 6 months, and younger people only have to wait 3, because they hate old people, they’ve changed their minds halfway through, following new developments. Why would anyone whinge that that isn’t fair.
mommydragonn · 30/11/2021 18:11

Boris said there were 13 cases of the new variant identified. 10 minutes later, the News said 22 cases. As usual stricter measures will be introduced when it's too late. All they said today was roll up your sleeves to get jabbed and Boris's favourite phrase...'Wash your Hands'.

Is that maybe 13 in England and 9 in Scotland?
AutumnAlmanack · 30/11/2021 18:40

Give the Government a break, for goodness' sake. Just who do some of you think would have done a better job? Eh, eh, eh???? It is uncharted territory for the UK and every other country.
