@AutumnAlmanack

Give the Government a break, for goodness' sake. Just who do some of you think would have done a better job? Eh, eh, eh???? It is uncharted territory for the UK and every other country.
Carrie is that you? 😕

Oh dear. That's a bit aggressive. Would you like to tell us what you think the government has done well? Hmm
AutumnAlmanack · 30/11/2021 19:27

Did I say they were doing a great job? All I am saying is there is no precedent - they cannot do anything right according to the public.

Well tell us what they have done well then? How do you know other politicians wouldn't have done better? You don't,so there's no need to hector people.

I agree to a point. The call to watch these press conference is just to watch it so everyone can moan about it afterwards. Or see of Boris is behaving normally. It's like people think 'Boris should be saying something' but when he does it's never going to be right. But if he doesn't say anything that's wrong too...
herecomesthsun · 30/11/2021 19:38

What are the recommendations now for waiting after a covid infection for your booster?

It may be that many teachers wouldn't be able to have a booster immediately because of recent infection.

Apart from that, it would be great if vaccination teams could take vaccines into schools and vaccinate staff as a priority (please)

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2021 19:41

It’s only a month wait

After almost two years I don't think "uncharted territory" can possibly apply any more.

We even had a new variant last winter so the government have even had practice at that.

Clive Dix, formerly of the vaccine task force says there are plans for a potentially vaccine resistant variant but he can't see any sign of them happening.

It's the tone of the "Eh, eh, eh????" I find supremely annoying.

XenoBitch · 30/11/2021 21:08

I did not see it.
What are the key points?

Get vaccinated. You'll want 3 doses.
freddiethegreat · 30/11/2021 22:09

@herecomesthsun, as I said upthread - I have Covid now & a booster booked in early Jan & I can have it. It’s 28 days minimum in between (& I reckon that triple jabbed plus recent natural immunity is probably as good as I am going to get!).

Theunamedcat · 30/11/2021 23:22

What has the government done well during the pandemic

Ignoring the blatant giving cash to mates cos we can
The track and trace fiasco
The flip flopping and changing direction so fast you could spin like a top if you followed them

They got us the vaccine before other countries admittedly we paid a bit more for them but we got them

That's about it and they should have learned by now they should have put the expensive plans into action why else did we fucking pay think tanks to plan if we are going to ignore it they should have cracked down on the government fucking about like a bunch of twats going to Barnard Castle shagging the secretary or whatever she was sleeping in the hoc and just generally acting like morons to be embarrassed by

Starcup · 30/11/2021 23:34

@tootyfruitypickle

No way they can possibly close schools with vaccines and antivirals. That'd be absolutely insane
I agree. I really don’t think they’ll close schools again.
Starcup · 30/11/2021 23:41

Well if this new variant turns out to be a false alarm and the vaccines work fine with it then happy days, but if it is immune to the vaccines etc… then I think our generation has had it really.

It’s almost as if Mother Nature is sticking two fingers up at the human race for the way we’ve nearly ruined the planet etc. It’s like pay back….

Immune escape is unlikely to be all or nothing proposition.

And there are lots of things that we know can help combat the spread of covid.

PurpleDaisies · 01/12/2021 07:55

Yes, because we have no technology to make new vaccines… oh wait, we do.

The omicron variant isn’t going to show total vaccine escape for severe disease/death even if the efficacy is reduced. We do have other options available to us in the phenomenally unlikely worst case scenario that it provide zero protection.

Viruses mutate and vaccines are tweaked. This happens every year with flu.

If you are asked a question you don't/can't know the answer to you don't just ignore the question, you say "I don't know".

Steady on! That's a bit of a radical suggestion Grin
Raisedbrow · 01/12/2021 18:14

A break? I think BJ has been on "a break" since this kicked off, and that's putting it mildly.
