Some restrictions back, fed up

Ireallydontcare55 · 27/11/2021 19:55

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

How many mask wearers here wear them properly anyway

Bet most don't

It's really not that difficult to wear a mask properly. Most people I see are wearing theirs perfectly normally and correctly.
Dishhh · 28/11/2021 00:28

@Flyonawalk

Professor Carl Heneghan, professor of evidence-based medicine at the University of Oxford, has spoken publicly and extensively about how masks are ineffective against spread of viruses, and about how they are a psychological tool only.

It is incredible to me that people are still willing to wear them, and that some people berate others for not doing so.

It's incredible to me that you would happily believe a doctor that states such information. That study was misrepresented.

Malteser71 · 28/11/2021 00:29

I’d really like to know, in simple yes/no terms, are you willing to wear masks for the rest of your lives?

‘It’s no hardship’

Sweetchocolatecandy · 28/11/2021 00:29

@onanotherday

Yes they did....but not sure you can choose freedom from a virus 🙄
No but freedom to not follow inconsistent, non-sensical government ‘advice’ to wear masks in a shop or a bus, but not in a bar or a workplace. Can you provide any scientific evidence that you are more likely to get covid in the first two places compared to the latter two? No, because there isn’t any. But yet you continue to defend the government’s arbitrary rules- and you know it’s bad when people who have actually had covid think that they are bonkers.
Lilifer · 28/11/2021 00:30

@Ireallydontcare55

This wasn’t the right place to post this, I respect people’s attitudes are differing but it’s making me feel stressed reading how people are so accepting of things. I am not and that’s fine. So I won’t post further.
OP I get it. But to be honest on MN you're going to get a disproportionate number of Pearl clutchers who seem infatuated with covid rules and mandates which help them to feel safer and more in control. It's the fault of government and media who have terrified the actual wits out of people to the extent they cannot see the wood for the trees. It's scary 🤷‍♀️
milkyaqua · 28/11/2021 00:31

This is not normal life

No, it is life during a global pandemic.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 28/11/2021 00:31

No @Sparklingbrook ... people shove them on and then pull them off again

Don't see many people stood in Tesco car park thoroughly washing their hands with hot water before or sanitiser ( as per gov.U.K. Guidelines)... let alone all the other bits about not touching,reusing,wearing under chin

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 28/11/2021 00:33

According to Boris you can only spread this variant in shops and on public transport

The rest of the time no mask required then? Has someone told this new variant this news?

Malteser71 · 28/11/2021 00:33

It’s no longer a pandemic. In the uk, covid is endemic. That means it’s going to be here forever.

Dishhh · 28/11/2021 00:35

@Lilifer

Masks have taken on a totemic quality that makes people feel safe and makes them feel like they are in control is some small way.

😂 It's just to pop to the shops for three weeks or so - no need to get all 'they're controlling me through this little bit of paper on my face' on us!

It’s giving me severe anxiety tbh the rules we are supposed to follow are so inconsistent, masks to be worn in shops and on public transport but in bars/clubs you don’t need to?
I don’t think we will go into another lockdown, this country can’t afford to pay for another furlough.

Furries · 28/11/2021 00:36

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

Oh *@Furries* how cute!
Thanks. Haven’t been referred to as cute since I was about two - I prefer magnificent in my later years.

Not in my experience. But I don't stand about in supermarket car parks watching everybody as a rule.

People I work with don't shove them on and pull them off again either.

HoneyItAlreadyDid · 28/11/2021 00:38

In answer to the OP….

Just stop believing what Boris et al say. You got a good run this time, what, summer to end of November?

He lies to you. YABU to trust him because he likes to talk the shit the plebs want to hear. He doesn’t respect you with the truth. He doesn’t care if he lies to you. If he tells you restrictions are over blah blah, how the fuck can he know?

Dishhh · 28/11/2021 00:38

This is so hilarious. I knew I would see this exact thread full of these exact complaints about - masks. When there are far worse things to complain about. Honestly.

Kennykenkencat · 28/11/2021 00:40

I never stopped wearing my mask so makes little difference to me.

TempsPerdu · 28/11/2021 00:41

Then what on Earth is the point? If Omicron is that transmissible, and they’re they’re that determined to delay its spread, why just shops? Why not schools, cinemas, churches, theatres and the rest? I mean, I don’t want any of this and I’m grateful that (for the moment) I don’t have to return to the dark days of singing through a mask in DD’s weekly music class - but surely that’s a much higher risk environment than my ten minute dash to Waitrose?

milkyaqua · 28/11/2021 00:41

@MalagaNights

I'm triple jabbed.

I'm just not doing any of the restrictions any more.

It's performance safety.
It's fear used to undermine personal autonomy.
It's weird single issue decision making.
It's terrifying how the masses will capitulate freedom in the hope the authority will save them.
It's a brink of authoritarianism I never thought I'd see.
It's a virus only serious to a very small percentage of people.
There's a vaccine available to all which prevents death.
There are now good treatments if you become ill.
There are devastating consequences for young people and the economy.

I'm done.
I'm just not doing any of it anymore.

It's quite evident you don't bother to follow world news.
YourWinter · 28/11/2021 00:46

I am a supermarket cashier, in possibly the only supermarket locally that has always had excellent compliance with mask-wearing from both customers and staff. In some of the other stores it seems staff have completely abandoned them and about 5% of customers are masked - the customers coming to our store often comment on how much safer they feel compared to other shops.

I wear a mask in every store, petrol station, bank etc that I visit, and on a busy high street. I have no problem at all wearing a mask for my whole shift at work, and double-mask on Saturdays, when more children are brought into the store. Hospital staff are masked for 12 hour shifts, in addition to other uncomfortable PPE. It really shouldn't be such a problem for shoppers to pop one on for half an hour.

Kennykenkencat · 28/11/2021 00:50

I wear my mask all the time when out because last year was the first time I didn’t have a cold.
When I get any sort of cough or cold it always ends up in my chest and I am so ill I take to my bed and don’t get up for a week and end up on antibiotics. Possibly because I don’t have tonsils

I am not vaccinated because I am allergic to one of the ingredients in the Covid jab.

Dh is fully jabbed.

Do you know what you have just made me realise. It was the first year I haven't had a cold either .....
HannibalHayeski · 28/11/2021 00:55

“What did you do during the pandemic dad?”

“Well I found wearing a mask ‘severely distressing’, so I put dozens if not hundreds of people at needless risk!”

TempsPerdu · 28/11/2021 00:58

Those filthy, unvaccinated disease vectors children. Shouldn’t be allowed in in the first place, vermin that they are.

Funnily enough, I was about to post on another thread. I’m sure there was quite a lot of mention about this very early this year - lots of people saying that they hadn’t had the usual colds throughout winter. And yet now it’s like some people think they’re being asked to carry a ball and chain.

I understand that for a few people it causes genuine problems. But for the vast majority, wearing a mask in heavily populated situations really isn’t the worst thing that could be asked of us. If it buys scientists a bit more time to assess a new variant, then I’m ok with that.
