Some restrictions back, fed up

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

Mask wearing is not even being reintroduced with any conviction

It's wear a mask 'if you can'

For 3 weeks

What will all the mask wearers moan about after the 3 weeks?

Mynameismargot · 28/11/2021 00:10

And has your country eliminated it then?

No but we are heck of a lot happier and relaxed than the English it would seem Grin

You don't sound it
MalagaNights · 28/11/2021 00:11

It’s the risk of organ failure, lung problems, breathing issues, respiratory disease, heart failure, blood clots and so on.

All a tiny risk if vaccinated.
Which is available to all.

stayathomer · 28/11/2021 00:11

I heard an interview with an Asian politician about a year ago. She was saying how normal mask wearing was over the past few years and how you get used to it. I was slightly emotional at the time and nearly started crying again but I'd agree it might just be the new norm.

Lalliella · 28/11/2021 00:11

Are you a bit dim? I suggest you read a bit more about this. Perhaps not the Daily Mail though.

Covid is still a thing you know. People are still dying. The new variant probably means more people will die. The new restrictions are hardly a hardship. I never stopped wearing a mask and am happy to continue doing so because I believe it saves lives. And I’m triple jabbed, but I know I can still get it.

Livelovebehappy · 28/11/2021 00:11

It’s just st wearing masks in shops. Nothing wrong with that. It’s got to be done.

TheAntiGardener · 28/11/2021 00:12

To anyone saying that life has changed ‘forever’ or that we’re ‘never going back to our old lives’, what exactly do you mean? And where has this view come from? I see comments like this pop up on these threads, and they always come across as very certain but utterly vague.

That we will actually be living like we are now - rules and guidelines changing constantly - in fifty years’ time? Or just a lingering heightened wariness of viruses? Something else?

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2021 00:12

Confused

@MalagaNights

It’s the risk of organ failure, lung problems, breathing issues, respiratory disease, heart failure, blood clots and so on.

All a tiny risk if vaccinated.
Which is available to all.

But a bigger risk than death.

And an increased risk if you’re already vulnerable.

Lalliella · 28/11/2021 00:14

Our grandparents who fought for our autonomy and personal freedoms?

They probably weren’t aware that they were fighting for our right to kill them.

Dishhh · 28/11/2021 00:15

@MalagaNights

I'm triple jabbed.

I'm just not doing any of the restrictions any more.

It's performance safety.
It's fear used to undermine personal autonomy.
It's weird single issue decision making.
It's terrifying how the masses will capitulate freedom in the hope the authority will save them.
It's a brink of authoritarianism I never thought I'd see.
It's a virus only serious to a very small percentage of people.
There's a vaccine available to all which prevents death.
There are now good treatments if you become ill.
There are devastating consequences for young people and the economy.

I'm done.
I'm just not doing any of it anymore.

When I saw Boris speaking about reintroducing masks in England when shopping and on public transport I knew when I had a look on here next the whinging would be nuclear. I wasn't disappointed 😊 ((FYI I live elsewhere where masks have been mandatory for a long time).

Scottishskifun · 28/11/2021 00:15

@Northsoutheastwest76

I won't be wearing one. For the first time I shall be taking advantage of my legal exemption. *@Elphame* if you wore a mask previously than you are not legally exempt.
Not true what so ever. Exemption is exemption for many different factors, many people chose to wear them despite the difficulties because of society judgement and it was easier than the stares or comments even though often they struggled within a short time period.

I was one of these people prior to having covid which made it far worse. I haven't repeated to put myself through wearing one in Scotland since and won't be doing so.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 28/11/2021 00:20

Many of my colleagues declare themselves exempt and that's the end of it

No need to wear a landyard
No need to explain to anyone

RantyAunty · 28/11/2021 00:22

It's likely depression, but I just don't care anymore.

I don't care about wearing a mask.
I'm deaf. I lip read. Impossible with mask so my lip reading skills have gone to shit. They took a long time to build.
I'll likely carry a small whiteboard and pen to communicate.

I'm more upset over lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Lunaduckdrop · 28/11/2021 00:22

Find an alternative way of preventing others from breathing in your exhaled air then?

Awalkintime · 28/11/2021 00:22

Pumperthepumper
I agree, currently I have a bladder that is not working properly since I got covid. Not sure if it will work again.

MalagaNights · 28/11/2021 00:23

^^But a bigger risk than death.

And an increased risk if you’re already vulnerable.^^

But still tiny.
Really tiny.
Really really tiny if you're vaccinated.
Really really really tiny if you're vaccinated and not in a vulnerable group.

The vaccine and protection is available to all.

Either it's worth getting as it's good protection.
Or it's not worth it so stop pushing it.

You can't have it both ways and expect to be convincing.

You can't say get vaccinated but you're still at high risk.
People see the inconsistency.

There are other concerns to balance against this tiny tiny risk now we have a vaccine.

It's now time to return to a normal life with many risks and personal choices.

Get vaccinated or don't.
Get on with your life.

fournonblondes · 28/11/2021 00:24

Masks are easy. I hate the Covid tests and the hassle of travelling and the vaccination to death. This is such a pain.

Lilifer · 28/11/2021 00:24

@DappledOliveGroves

I'm not going to wear a mask again. I've had Covid, I could just as easily get cancer, get hit by a bus or die of something else. Everyone will die one day and I'm not tiptoeing around a virus that will mutate for the foreseeable future.

I'm not a Covid denier. I've had both vaccines. But I'm damned if I'm prepared to live like this. And it terrifies me that there's so much willingness to disregard civil liberties in the naive and arrogant hope that we can control a virus.

Indeed.

Masks have taken on a totemic quality that makes people feel safe and makes them feel like they are in control is some small way.

That's great if you want that sort of reassurance but in reality wearing a mask is not likely to protect you from covid either getting or transmitting it. They didn't work for us here in Ireland and don't look to be making much difference in Wales or Scotland.

tearsforfears72 · 28/11/2021 00:25

My DD20 is on a study abroad year in France where the mask rule on public transport and in shops was never lifted in the first place. You also have to show a vaccine pass to enter restaurants, the cinema etc. DD says she hardly ever sees anyone disobeying the rules.
Personally I wish the mask rule hadn’t been lifted here. I will happily wear a mask, it needs to be done, and I want to keep myself and others safe.
However I can empathise with feeling fed up of the virus. I really hope we see some improvements soon, especially with the festive season coming up

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 28/11/2021 00:25

How many mask wearers here wear them properly anyway

Bet most don't

Furries · 28/11/2021 00:26

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

Mask wearing is not even being reintroduced with any conviction

It's wear a mask 'if you can'

For 3 weeks

What will all the mask wearers moan about after the 3 weeks?

Probably twatty posts like this - though I won’t wait 3 weeks to do that!
mnaab · 28/11/2021 00:26

masks remained mandatory here throughout. It's part of life now. You can't wear one then you don't wear one. If you can you do 🤷‍♀️

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 28/11/2021 00:27

Oh @Furries how cute!
