So masks back in shops and on public transport, where most people are double jabbed and can distance, yet not in secondary schools where majority unvaccinated and unable to distance at all. But don’t fear we can open a window.

Our work group chat is going off about this! We are all sick of it and I'm 31 weeks pregnant, but its okay we'll all be fine Angry

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:14

@Amijustagrump

I was see if you can work from home now?

Our County issued advice this week that schools should return to masks in communal areas, which most local secondaries are doing.

Comedycook · 27/11/2021 18:17

Thankfully. I don't want my children's education to be affected anymore by restrictions

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:17

@CleanHankie

We’ve been advised this for 5 weeks and only 1/50 kids doing it… and most SLT aren’t!

DGFB · 27/11/2021 18:17

People can rarely distance on public transport.
Yabu, if you’re double vaccinated and you get a booster, you’re as protected as anyone.
We don’t even know the variant causes more severe disease. We know very little

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:18

@Comedycook

Eduction is Less likely to be impacted if masks are brought back in

OP posts:
OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:19

@DGFB

They are worried the jabs won’t be as effective against this variant. And I’m not due a booster for months

I don’t want my dc’s to have to wear masks in lessons. They already do when moving around the school, I think that is sufficient.

Bananabrush · 27/11/2021 18:20

There is basically no downside to using masks in shops. There are obvious downsides to using them in schools.

FreeBritnee · 27/11/2021 18:21

Oh god we’re not going to start with schools closing again are we 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Ditto. I’d want most other restrictions brought back in before children’s education is sacrificed again.
PiffleWiffleWoozle · 27/11/2021 18:22

That’s partly a consequence of a room full of men talking and the ones asking questions too.

Whinge · 27/11/2021 18:23

I'm really curious about isolation for a close contact. Surely that means a child positive with a Omicrom variant could mean an entire class isolating?

ShinyMe · 27/11/2021 18:24

Yeah, it's so frustrating. Most of our staff are masking, but the students have given up and 99% refuse (and tell you to fuck off if you try and ask them to mask). I'm sick of putting my family at risk because I'm forced to share lifts and small rooms with them.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 27/11/2021 18:24

I’m annoyed they haven’t talked about «WFH if you can» to be honest.

chickywoo · 27/11/2021 18:25

There’s nothing to stop you from wearing a mask if you want to though is there?

Hospedia · 27/11/2021 18:25

Employing relatively mild countermeasures elsewhere such as masks in shops/on public transport will hopefully help reduce the spread enough for schools to stay open. I think they should be the last thing to entirely close.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:27

@Hospedia

Defo not asking them to close, but some mitigating factors maybe!

If the entire class are identified as close contacts. At the minute it's only those who are within 2m and even then they only need a negative PCR and can return to school. I think if the variant takes off then there could be a return to bubbles and whole class isolation.

It's going to be a bumpy winter.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:28

I do wear a mask!

OP posts:
Hospedia · 27/11/2021 18:29

All you can do OP is take reasonable steps to protect yourself, I think its no surprise to anyone that the government are useless.

Ugzbugz · 27/11/2021 18:30

My 12 year old has been full time mask wearing for weeks!

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/11/2021 18:31

@Hospedia

The problem is we are all trying to protect ourselves to some extent, but when on duty in the lunch hall and 1000 maskless kids walk passed there’s not much you can do other than wear your own mask… doesn’t seem like enough
