I'm watching Sky News, and they have said there will be a news conference this afternoon... but why do they never say at what time? I've also had this on BBC news too previously. It is so infuriating Angry

YANBU- It is annoying they do not specify a time.
YABU- In 2021 you should search the internet to find it yourself.

I do not know how to do AIBU polls. One day I will figure it out and add it on.

@Russianmax because he had to explain things to a fuckwit who was also standing at a podium.

SpicedGin · 27/11/2021 18:54

@Isitreallyme177 me too 😂 😂

PicsInRed · 27/11/2021 18:55

@IcelandicCabin

I just always want to take Chris Witty by the hand, make him a mug of hot chocolate and let him sleep in my spare room so he can have a break from it all.
I think Stephen King wrote a book along those lines.
whynotwhatknot · 27/11/2021 18:55

sorry if this has already been covered

the new rules state you have to isolate if in contact with ne variant-how wil that work inschools? Whole classes off again?

JetRocket · 27/11/2021 18:56

Hmm I’m beyond wearing masks now. I’ve done with them. I just don’t enjoy shopping with them on so I’d rather not go than put up with wearing one. Which is obviously fine and my choice…etc but I do worry that there will be many more who feel like me out there and in the new year we’ll see a massive second wave of high-street shops closing who didn’t make it through Christmas.

I suppose the likes of John Lewis/M&S/next don’t really feel the loss of a High street store as no doubt their online sales will just increase but it’s hundreds of local jobs down the toilet and people’s livelihoods. Maybe it will create more jobs elsewhere like driving and warehouse but not everyone who works in a city centre shop can do those. If you don’t have a driving license, vehicle or have disabilities these kind of jobs just don’t accommodate in the same way.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 27/11/2021 18:56

Also humming "The gloves don't work" with a few others it seems Grin

Againstmachine · 27/11/2021 18:56

Fine, mandatory masks in shops and public transport..... but hospitality exempt? Not that I'm gagging for masks (no pun intended) but throughout this shitshow it's the inconsistency that gets me every fucking time.

Because wearing mask to go to a table and take it it off. in hospitality is pointless.

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 18:59

Ooooh oooh I got one..

Plastic gloves don't work
They just make things worse
But wear a mask on your face again.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 27/11/2021 19:00

Yes it is pointless. I agree. So social distancing? Limiting numbers? Ventilation? How effective are masks? I've seen it debated round in circles so much it's like having one foot nailed to the floor for the flipping hokey cokey.....

Jellykat · 27/11/2021 19:02

Re. hospitality, i just dont understand why waitresses cant wear them? They're walking from person to person and breathing over food, no?

I haven't been to the shops recently because hardly anyone is wearing masks where I live though. I'm not the only one so it could work the other way.
Carrotte · 27/11/2021 19:02

They need to absolutely hammer the ventilation. It's cold and heating bills are through the roof so they have a hard fight there.

katscamel · 27/11/2021 19:04

At the moment on coming back into the UK we need to fork out for lateral flow tests.... a pain but OK. These tests are photographed and sent to the lab. If positive people then have to get a PCR. Why can't this just stay the same? Sorry, obvious answer BJs cronies involved in testing obviously not making enough for their Caribbean New Year Holidays.

Bunnyfuller · 27/11/2021 19:04

I’m panic buying. Booze and cat food. Our local Sainsbury’s hasn’t had red top milk for the last 2 weeks and no Cointreau today.

Oh, Boris, you stopped at nothing to get to be PM….

I bet TM sends him texts ‘sucks to you you lolz’ 😂😂😂

Silverswirl · 27/11/2021 19:04

Yeah. Not wearing masks to shop ever again.
Guess what- I’m exempt now and no one is allowed to ask why so it’s all gravy.

SickAndTiredAgain · 27/11/2021 19:06

I may have missed it, or he may have just not included all the info, but I think he said you’d have to isolate as a contact regardless of vaccine status. But I don’t think he mentioned “regardless of age”, so maybe the under 18s exemption from isolating will stay?
MistressoftheDarkSide · 27/11/2021 19:07

I'll happily keep my shop door open...I'll end up layering and looking like a Gothic weeble as we have no heating and a concrete floor as we've downsized considerably but if it makes people feel safer so be it. I'll be like a T Rex wrapping purchases Grin

In most hospitality places I've been into they do wear masks.
ColinTheKoala · 27/11/2021 19:08

I’m panic buying so am I. Turkey gravy granules. They make nicer gravy than the chicken ones but they don't sell them all year round [misses point of thread]

I will make sure I choose shops with freezing looking shop staff
bizboz · 27/11/2021 19:09

How effective are masks?
A recent study showed that mask wearing reduced transmission by 53%. here

It's a Guardian article but link to the original study published in the BMJ is there. Don't think it's been peer-reviewed yet but was a very wide-scale study.

ColinTheKoala · 27/11/2021 19:09

Yes. I only pop into shops so wearing a mask isn't an issue, and I am not overly bothered by other people not wearing them. I do most shopping online. The train, however, is a different issue, and I am glad people will have to wear masks again.

A t-rex wrapping purchases... that made me smile. I hope you manage to keep warm in other ways. Lots of tea!
Cheermonger · 27/11/2021 19:11

@Carrotte

The gloves don't work they just make it worse as they just spread it round.
Aw love that song
