I'm watching Sky News, and they have said there will be a news conference this afternoon... but why do they never say at what time? I've also had this on BBC news too previously. It is so infuriating Angry

YANBU- It is annoying they do not specify a time.
YABU- In 2021 you should search the internet to find it yourself.

I do not know how to do AIBU polls. One day I will figure it out and add it on.

@RubyTuesday70

FFS. Why are our borders bloody open for people to keep bringing other variants in? Are their rights to have a fucking holiday more important than those of us trying to keep a bloody business running and staff employed?

I honestly am beyond despair tonight.

But lots of us are trying to keep our business alive where it involves travel and staff moving between offices. Its a fuckety fuck fuck any which way running a business in the UK right now. I am trying to work out how to do my day 2 test next week now.

People don't just travel for holidays FFS. Lots of people seeing family also in jeopardy which is also very sad.

Underparmummy · 27/11/2021 18:23

@rrhuth

I do think it was an error moving away from testing for incoming travellers - then the sequencing would have been happening.

Don't really understand why you don't have to test as a vaccinated person - yes chance of carrying/transmitting is lower - but still significant.

Agreed. Even if no isolation for vaccinated should always have been left as pcr not lateral flow for gathering the info.
rrhuth · 27/11/2021 18:26

Oh according to twitter Israel is considering shutting their borders?

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 18:28

@PurpleDaisies

It's a cop-out. it's like telling a vegan that they can only have green beans for dinner because you've only got roast chicken on offer and you can't be arsed to go to the shops to get them anything else.

More like telling them they can have bmnitrt hgtredssne for dinner.

Haha so true. It can't be that hard to have someone on standby for such things. Maybe they can't be bothered to pay them

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone does
Whammyyammy · 27/11/2021 18:29

@Isitreallyme177

Oh well I'm glad I didn't get rid of my exemption lanyard. Review in 3 weeks time though is just in time for Christmas lockdown.
Plenty on Amazon/ ebay
Tanith · 27/11/2021 18:30
@Tanith - you are joking, aren't you? Maybe the female journalists had a day off, maybe it just happened that the men were available on a Saturday? There was a female photographer amongst them! This concerns everybody, not just women and children.
Yes, it does concern everyone, not just men.
It would be nice if they paid some attention to issues that affect women.

Perhaps then we wouldn't be expected to juggle childcare and work during lockdowns, battle with unsympathetic employers while children have to isolate, worry about the increased risk to pregnant woman.

Why would you think that's a joke?

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 18:31

The gloves don't work they just make it worse as they just spread it round.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/11/2021 18:31

@toomuchlaundry

I assume some people may be regretting get rid of their masks in the summer
I doubt it, they're a couple of quid in the shops, hardly a big drama to buy a new one.
Russianmax · 27/11/2021 18:32

Sorry if I’ve missed this, but why do we think Whitty seemed so anxious?

Againstmachine · 27/11/2021 18:33

If he is anxious and hasn't got bollocks to say he is worthless.

Lockheart · 27/11/2021 18:35

We don't, some posters have decided that he looked "petrified" based on not a lot.
Seemslikeagoodidea · 27/11/2021 18:37

I'm glad they are mandating masks again for shops and public transport, that seems like a sensible move.

Fingers crossed that although the new variant is more transmissable, it might also be less deadly. It does feel like it could be another year before we return to "normal" life again though, which is a bit depressing, but thank goodness we have vaccines and they can be tweaked to cope with variants.

ParkheadParadise · 27/11/2021 18:39

Is face coverings mandatory again in England or not? Didn't hear what he said.
In Scotland, they are mandatory we have worn them forever 😜

Probably waiting for Johnson to decompensate live on air

I read that to the tune of The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve 🙈🤦‍♀️

He didn’t come across as anxious to me.
Againstmachine · 27/11/2021 18:46

No one knows as it ws that vague, and they haven't helped in Scotland or Europe.

NotMyCat · 27/11/2021 18:47

There is literally no point in them saying face covers are mandatory. They are mandatory in my doctors, dentist and pharmacy yet most people aren't wearing them
People will just say they are exempt and carry on as they have been

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 18:48

I read that to the tune of The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve haha so have I now!

ParkheadParadise · 27/11/2021 18:49

Thanks @Againstmachine
I didn't know if he said wear them if you want 😂😂 or not.

PicsInRed · 27/11/2021 18:49

@Russianmax

Sorry if I’ve missed this, but why do we think Whitty seemed so anxious?
If he was anxious, it would be the expected professional anxiety from the pressure of having to onboard an enormous amount of data and information around a brand new variant, and present to 10s of millions of angry and frightened people, with only 1 or 2 days lead time.

Last time he was this high profile, he was accosted in the street.

I don't envy his job.

IcelandicCabin · 27/11/2021 18:51

I just always want to take Chris Witty by the hand, make him a mug of hot chocolate and let him sleep in my spare room so he can have a break from it all.

Now the gloves don't work They just make things worse But I know I'll see you wear them again
MistressoftheDarkSide · 27/11/2021 18:53

Haven't put my head above the parapet here since the threads that must not be named but thought I'd risk it tonight because I'm in FFS mood.....

Fine, mandatory masks in shops and public transport..... but hospitality exempt? Not that I'm gagging for masks (no pun intended) but throughout this shitshow it's the inconsistency that gets me every fucking time.

Finally re-opening my business on 2nd - having a gathering partly to show off shop where we'll now be masked, before going to two local bars we have relationships with where we won't have to wear masks..... that's if people come out at all as last year, when we were in our old premises, when we opened after Nocember lockdown, hardly anybody came shopping because they shopped online and were scared of losing Christmas privileges. Flipping Groundhog day..... meh.

And no, I know nowt can be done, and it is what it is and I don't want bodies piling up etc etc... but my vodka dependency might increase just a tad..... chin chin....
