The cold that's going around

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 17:21

I currently have some symptoms. It's mainly a sore throat, a sinus drip at the back of the throat, a cough. The symptoms are very mild. I have a pcr booked for tomorrow so I will be able to establish is the next two days if this is covid or not.

There's a cold going around. Did anyone here experience that cold? Or any family members? What was that cold like for you?

I'm just after experiencing a dose of diarrhea and I think that's unusual with a cold. Makes me think now that this is covid.

Did anyone else experience diarrhea with that cold?

Yes I have had sore throat on and off 3 weeks now, for longer than any other time I've caught a cold. Mild fever on and off, cough, blocked ears, no sense of smell, little taste. Although my appetite is fine.

I do wonder if it's a new variant of covid going undetected.

I have caught colds this year, but this one is something else.

Have now had 1 pcr and 2 ltf, all negative.

Best remedy seems to be some rest.

Wish everyone here a speedy recovery. Smile

@LolaSmiles

What baffling me is not that I have a cold, but the fact that I and many others are reporting that we have one that never ends. It came, got better, then came back again. All within a space of 3 weeks for me Same here. Either I'm getting one after another with little time in between, or it's one nasty virus that is persistent and difficult to fight.
Agreed.

Now I’ve got fill blown snorters bogeys. This is not good...

@Benjispruce5

Anyone with cold symptoms should get a test!
Yes I have had 2 PCR and numerous LFTs, all negative. I am only now better, after 10 days. And still have catarrh and a cough.
Benjispruce5 · 07/11/2021 11:14

We all had a sore throat, tickly cough then got better then it came back. DH’s cough went to his chest for over 2 weeks. Mine was just throat and sneezing. Several LFTs and PCRs negative.

Benjispruce5 · 07/11/2021 11:16

DH still clearing his throat like a demented camel. Angry

jenkel · 07/11/2021 14:02

Well I am on day 7 of covid, but it actually still feels like a very bad cold, no chest pain, no breathing difficulties apart from trying to breathe through a very bunged up nose. Dh has a negative pcr at the beginning of the week, had a bit of a tickly throat on sat and positive lf today, he feels like he just had the start of a cold. Pcrs booked again for the whole family apart from me for later this afternoon.

eitak22 · 08/11/2021 07:16

Is anyone feeling dizzy with it? The blocked nose etc has mostly gone but everytime I stand up or try to read I feel dizzy.

I'm awaiting PCR at the moment.

KittenKong · 08/11/2021 07:58

What is this thing? Is it something doing the rounds or all the bugs just having a hay day because people are interacting more?

User135644 · 08/11/2021 08:07

@Hopeisallineed

I don’t understand, what cold? There will be more than one cold circulating. How can we possibly know which cold you mean? And some people will have it worse than others so there’s no way of telling them apart. 😳
Colds are very variable.

I (and I think everyone else commenting they've got the cold) have had a test. I did a PCR when it first started and have been doing daily lft. This is not covid, its my body reacting to the first time its encountered a cold in over 18months.
firef1y · 08/11/2021 08:15

Ok so I'm on day 10. Yesterday I managed a reasonably fast run for the first time since it hit, only having to stop a couple times to clear my nose.
Last night was the first time I didn't need my inhaler in the night and this morning I feel so much better. Still not 100%, still copious amounts of snot and an irritating cough, but finally feeling a lot more like myself.

Sprostongreen21 · 08/11/2021 08:35

I’ve just had the virus that’s going round: caught from work probably ( hospital) as I hadn’t been anywhere else.

I rarely get even a cold and It floored me for a couple of days. Was bound to happen this year I guess. Started as a cold, really runny nose, voice, sore throat, no energy, wobbly, no appetite. It was over the worst after three/four days(thanks immune system) but left me with a hacking dry awful cough that wouldn’t stop. I’m on day 7 and the coughs better on the whole. Still have random coughing fits though.

I had a PCR and it was negative and did regular LFTs but I had a feeling it wasn’t covid. Despite havi no patient covid contact. Just been boosted too. Lots of other viruses causing issues right now.

Sprostongreen21 · 08/11/2021 08:44

Also there are lots of different viruses around the cause cold symptoms so you can absolutely get rid of one cold and catch another. It won’t be the same virus causing it.

It’s going to be a long winter. Give your immune system the best chance. Top up those vitamins, make sure you are taking vitamin D, eat healthily with lots of different nutrients, drink plenty of water/fluid. Plenty of basic exercise (walking will do!) and fresh air.

ninnynonny · 08/11/2021 09:07

Neg PCR result this morning. Now at the 'lots of stuff coming from nose' stage and throaty coughing
The dizziness mentioned has been grim.

Summerofcontent · 08/11/2021 09:15

We had a nasty cold in September.
Negative LFTs and PCRs.
Incidentally the only person not to get it was ds who'd had covid in August

Regalhen · 08/11/2021 09:30

Yes, in our family of four we all got it but very varied symptoms. One child and adult slight sniffle symptoms, one child more definite cold symptoms. Mine was more like 'flu than a cold with fever and rigours and nausea- would have presumed it was 'flu had I not had a vaccine recently. PCR and LFT negative

Weirdly it came back for 24 hours a week after having it with a sore throat and shivering again for me, before vanishing again. My mum had it also but her symptoms were more gastric flu - but she also had it coming back briefly a week after getting over it

ChilliChaos · 08/11/2021 18:18

First time in almost a month today that I haven’t had to take some form of pain relief. Definitely feeling a lot better and hopefully I’m out the other side of this 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Timeisavirtue · 08/11/2021 20:27

Just had laryngitis, which set off a sinus infection, cue intermittent loss of taste and smell... had lft and pcr both negative... these virus’s are savage this year 😩 had it since last weds and just clearing up now ...

KittenKong · 10/11/2021 15:34

God my throat is sore again... I give up!

Pushkinia · 10/11/2021 15:41

I have bad cold symptoms but diarrhoea as well and my sense of taste has gone a bit weird - everything tastes metallic. I had a PCR test a couple of hours ago. I’m hoping it’s just a cold!

My idiot manager has told me that if my results haven’t arrived in the morning, I have to do an LFT test and if that’s negative, I have to go to work. I think she’s wrong but she won’t change her mind!

KittenKong · 11/11/2021 13:17

I assume this is loads of bugs doing the rounds. But is it a cold? Flu? Throat infection? Tummy bug? Mutant virus?

FirewomanSam · 11/11/2021 13:59

My sister and her family all have a ‘cold’ at the moment but have tested negative for Covid over and over. I saw them last week, started to feel ill a few days later, and it turns out I have Covid.

Sister’s family are still all negative for Covid so it could be a coincidence but I can’t help wondering if they all do in fact have Covid but tests just aren’t picking it up in them for some reason. I guess we’ll never know!

Wandamakesporridge · 12/11/2021 08:25

I think the Cold and Covid are separate and it’s hard to tell. Both are going round.

So I have been very unlucky and had both. For me the cold was more traditional (sore throat, sneezing, bunged up, chesty phlegmy cough).
Covid has been a headache and tiredness and a dry hacking cough which is where I am currently at.

I first got the horrible cold - was ill for a week, 3 days off work. It was not Covid (negative LFTs and PCR).

Just recovered from that, had about 3 days of feeling well again, and now I have Covid. (positive LFT and PCR)

I have been doing daily LFTs so know EXACTLY when I got Covid - and it was from my husband who was initially asymptomatic and we only found out he had it from a faint line on an LFT. His symptoms didn’t start until about day 3. So if he hadn’t done the LFT he would have been out and about and spreading it without knowing. He’s not even really ill now and would have assumed it was a bit of a cold.
So Firewoman Sam you could have picked Covid up from someone who is asymptomatic?

Anyway just to encourage everyone to keep doing the Lateral Flow Tests!

RebeccaHarris01 · 15/11/2021 06:09

My mother was in a similar condition. She had diarrhea and cold at the same time but it was not covid 19. We went to the doctor, and she recommended Vitamin D and Vitamin C tablets. It was quite beneficial to her.
