The cold that's going around

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 17:21

I currently have some symptoms. It's mainly a sore throat, a sinus drip at the back of the throat, a cough. The symptoms are very mild. I have a pcr booked for tomorrow so I will be able to establish is the next two days if this is covid or not.

There's a cold going around. Did anyone here experience that cold? Or any family members? What was that cold like for you?

I'm just after experiencing a dose of diarrhea and I think that's unusual with a cold. Makes me think now that this is covid.

Did anyone else experience diarrhea with that cold?

Sounds like my symptoms and my LFT was positive last night. No sign of fever, loss of smell or persistent cough. Hope you feel better soon.

MrsManders · 01/11/2021 11:34

Had the mega cold cold. Covid negative. Dodgy tummy a few days before then awful sore throat fever, cough etc. lasted a good week.

BigWoollyJumpers · 01/11/2021 11:48

Myself, and all the current household, which comprises several workmen doing my bathrooms, all had a "cold" last week. Started with sore throat, dripping nose, on to full snot and then cough. One day it was like living in a TB sanitorium with all the coughing. All their families caught it too. DH didn't catch it, miracle. We are all now fit and healthy one week on. Just a standard cold then. We all took LFT's, negative.

HotSauceCommittee · 01/11/2021 14:13

I'm on day 14 of "the cold".
It has knocked me for six and I only just came off painkillers for my very sore throat yesterday.
I've had a negative PCR and LFT.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/11/2021 14:18

Day 8 of THE COLD.

Started with blocked sinus. Very snotty, cough. Exhausted and loss of smell and taste.

Negative LFT daily. It’s a cold.

WhatsWrongWithMyUsername · 01/11/2021 14:21

A post nasal drip can give you can upset stomach.

LogsAndSquiks · 01/11/2021 14:40

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Day 8 of THE COLD.

Started with blocked sinus. Very snotty, cough. Exhausted and loss of smell and taste.

Negative LFT daily. It’s a cold.

Loss of smell? Have you done a PCR test?
DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/11/2021 14:59

I always lose my taste and smell when I have a cold. I had a cold in September as well. Same thing. Thought it was normal til covid. It’s coming back now.

Bellyups · 01/11/2021 15:01

We all had the exact same symptoms in our house - all tested negative - all felt like utter shit. It could easily be a cold, but obviously you need to be tested as you said

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/11/2021 15:08

Testing daily. All household negative.

I caught it from my DC who were negative. DH hasn’t caught it and he’s also negative. I’m testing daily….negative. We’ve been daily testing since DC caught it 2 weeks ago.

DickMabutt73962 · 01/11/2021 16:41

Yes me and the children I nanny had it. They had worse tummies than me, mine lasted only the first day I thjnk. Negative PCR and weekly LFTs negative still, about 3 weeks on.

DickMabutt73962 · 01/11/2021 16:44

@BlondieD

I don't know what this is. It's so weird. My mum is not feeling well either but it's different for her. She has headache since Wednesday and that's unusual.
I also had the headache on day 1 and then dizziness late day 2 into day 3 that had to be fixed with a prescription after a call to 111.

I read something that said that because of all the distancing measures, we've not had many colds (I'd had none since before first lockdown) and our immune systems overreacted to this cold hence why everyone seemed to get it so badly with such a range of symptoms, that made me feel better.

DickMabutt73962 · 01/11/2021 16:46

@BlondieD

I am pleasantly surprised. I woke up this morning feeling much better. The sore throat and headache is gone. No more diarrhea. I feel much better except for a tickle at the back of the throat and I think that's making me cough sometimes.

I must admit I was dreading this and gearing myself up for sickness for a few weeks but I am feeling much much better from that sore throat.

Still going for a pcr test this morning.

This was me until the dizziness hit. But then I was back on the mend after 3 days.

Thank you for your reply. I suppose that makes sense. The lasylt time I was sick with a cold was 'the beast from the east time'. There would have been colds around back then but I escaped them all but your explanation makes sense. Other peoples immune systems are going into over drive so people are probably getting high viral loads from others when it comes to colds and contracting the colds and exposures.

I think I have the mega cold right now. It is awful. Did a PCR test which was negative. Have a horrific cough which keeps me up at night and hurts so much. Really snotty, headache and so lethargic. Spent the last 4 days mainly in bed.

Wandamakesporridge · 02/11/2021 17:41

I have the mega cold, 6 days in now. Horrible chesty cough, blocked nose, sinus pain, catarrh, sore throat, slight loss of taste (which I often get with a cold anyway due to the sinusitis).

I’ve done numerous LFTs and a PCR, all negative.
The only major Covid symptom I don’t have is a high temperature.

I haven’t been out much but when I do it’s awful because I am really embarrassed to cough.

ninnynonny · 02/11/2021 17:44

Got it here :( Terribly sore throat, headache, feeling really spaced out. Negative lft. DH had the squits too. He's still not 100% a week on.
Horrible.

BlondieD · 02/11/2021 17:52

My pcr was negative. I'm on day 4 of the cold. I'm getting a fullness behind my ears and some slight pain in an ear. I alwa3get ear problems. The sore throat is gone. Headache is gone. Chesty cough thats on and off is lingering but all in all, very mild. I go into cough fits and get caught up in my chest that is also making my ear sore but that's the worst of it. Pcr is negative.

My mom has a headache since last Wednesday that won't go away. Its all very weird.

I have a bad cold, but because I’ve developed a cough over night I’ve had to self-isolate until I receive a negative PCR test. I don’t have transport, so I’ve had to order it. I’m going to be missing out on a weeks pay.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 02/11/2021 18:20

@Kitcat122

My daughter has just had "the cold ". She started with a sore throat. She had dodgy tummy and felt sick with it. Negative for Covid.
Same here, then awful cough that kept me awake half the night, then snotty nose. Also headachey and lost voice for three days (that always happens when I get a cold). PCR negative 🤷‍♀️.
Nomorecoco · 02/11/2021 18:21

I've got this now, night before I started my new job, been sent home early on day 2. Feel horrendous, never had a cold like this. Doesn't help my toddler has it too and isn't sleeping so I can't rest up.

LolaSmiles · 02/11/2021 18:24

There's some nasty cold and flu bugs doing the rounds. I've had one of them and tested negative for Covid, same for DH and DC. Other people I know tested positive for covid with much milder symptoms.

It goes to show that people need to take responsibility and get a PCR test if thry have symptoms, and not do what some on here do and claim they 'know' the cause of their coughs and snuffles.

fedup65356 · 02/11/2021 20:38

Two weeks ago I came down with The Cold and have still got the tail end of it - and am exhausted. LFT's and PCR all negative.

It started with a sore throat for a couple of days, then became a chesty cough, then quickly also became a typical nose cold. I also felt dizzy sometimes and tired. On around the 4th day I was thinking I might be feeling better, but the next day I ended up staying in bed all day. Slow improving thereafter but loads of phlegm..

Easily one of the worst, most exhausting colds I've ever had, and although 99% better now, it's left me exhausted.

Wandamakesporridge · 02/11/2021 20:49

Yes all the phlegm and waking up in the night coughing 😩
I thought I was better after the 4th day and went into work but then felt terrible and got sent home 🙁
Now daughter is off school with it, exact same symptoms.

BlondieD · 02/11/2021 21:17

I was bouncing around with energy today and now that my day is coming to an end I'm thinking if I pushed myself too much. My ears.
