The cold that's going around

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 17:21

I currently have some symptoms. It's mainly a sore throat, a sinus drip at the back of the throat, a cough. The symptoms are very mild. I have a pcr booked for tomorrow so I will be able to establish is the next two days if this is covid or not.

There's a cold going around. Did anyone here experience that cold? Or any family members? What was that cold like for you?

I'm just after experiencing a dose of diarrhea and I think that's unusual with a cold. Makes me think now that this is covid.

Did anyone else experience diarrhea with that cold?

Yes same. 3 weeks now with sore throat on and off, running nose that won't go. Pcr negative. The cold that doesn't go away...!

KittenKong · 06/11/2021 09:45

Mines come back. This is week 3 - it’s not fair!

Me too! I’ve had a week or so off (being ill) and the phlegm/ cough is now back!
Liliflower · 06/11/2021 09:51

Yes mine came back too. I take multivitamins and usually quite fit. Only god knows what this special cold is. I am baffled.

BlondieD · 06/11/2021 10:25

I'm so sorry to hear that you are all suffering.

It looks like a lot of my initial symptoms have cleared - sore throat and cough. I got a headache too last weekend but that seems to be gone. A headache comes and goes but I don't know if that is related to the cold or stress or migraine.

Are you all helping you body through these infections colds? With over the counter medicine like paracetamol and other stuff.

I was taking vitamin C a lot during the week. About twice a day. I added honey into my diet. I was adding grated ginger to pretty much everything - porridge, scrambled eggs, mulled wine. I was making pots of mulled wine over the past week with slices of orange and gloves and cinnamon and ginger. I think something helped me.

I enjoyed coconut water as well during the past week. I found it beneficial for the throat - soothing.

I'm on my third back to back cold since the children went back to school in September 🙄

Brokenrecord3006 · 06/11/2021 10:43

I had this awful cold recently, I thought it would never end! Coconut water for a sore throat is a good shout.

My cough lingered for a while but suddenly got worse yesterday, another full blown cold and now I've lost my sense of taste. Fab. Off for my 3rd pcr test in a month! Not sure what I'll be more gutted about - having another horrendous cold so soon or having covid.

BlondieD · 06/11/2021 11:24

For all those with back to back colds and never ending colds?

Are you all taking vitamin D. Vitamin D is supposed to be beneficial for many processes within the body. There were articles last year saying it may help with covid in that if you do get it, it may be milder.

My cold was short in nature. I feel blessed. Hard to say what that's attributed too but I take supplements every day including vitamin D.

My morning routine is usually sometimes like this

  • vitamin c and iron tablet. The tablet I take has other vitamins too like folic acid and some b vitamin.
I wait a while and then I have breakfast. Straight away after breakfast I take a cod liver oil supplement that has vitamin D included in it. I also take a calcium, vitamin D and k2 supplement at this time. I don't take the full dose because of the cod liver oil capsule taken.

I really think something worked for me. I used to suffer from a lot of colds and infections like sinus infections and chest infections. So I dread colds. About 4 years ago I changed so much about myself and my habits. I wouldnt be able to keep going if it wasn't for the supplements I'm on.
Fingers crossed it stays that way now and that will be that with the colds but we'll see.

I had the non-Covid cold. It was on and off for about 3 weeks and bloody awful. Had to have a week off work. Daily LFTs and a couple of PCRs all negative.
I now have a throat infection and have had to have another week off work. I’m never this ill! 😩

Hi, thanks yes. Been taking vit d supplements and multivitamins for months now. Nothing seems to work.

What baffling me is not that I have a cold, but the fact that I and many others are reporting that we have one that never ends. It came, got better, then came back again. All within a space of 3 weeks for me.

Liliflower · 06/11/2021 13:33

Never seen anything like it.

jenkel · 06/11/2021 13:38

I am day 6 of covid, feeling very slightly better and coughing up loads of stuff so feel that I am progressing through but also have had a mild bout of diarrhoea today. I woke up with a cold on Monday but negative lf, positive lf on Tuesday and positive pcr on Tuesday.

LolaSmiles · 06/11/2021 14:17

Same here. Either I'm getting one after another with little time in between, or it's one nasty virus that is persistent and difficult to fight.

firef1y · 06/11/2021 14:24

Now on day 9 of the cold that doesn't stop giving. Feel better in myself, but still got mega snots and the cough that won't abate. Plus my hr is jumping really quickly with exercise.

Seriously think that this is yet another downside of lockdown that really wasn't considered. I usually come in to contact with a cough/cold and shrug it off before it has a chance to get hold. Over a year of my immune system not being challenged and I've lost that ability (plus my hay-fever has been horrendous this year as again my immune system hasn't had it usual challenges).

ninnynonny · 06/11/2021 14:31

Day 7 for me. Now my sinuses are killing. Went for a walk with dh this morning and felt like I was walking around like a rubber person! Got home and feel totally wiped out. It's ridiculous. I'm a reasonably fit runner; take multivits, Vit D, eat loads of fruit and general good stuff and haven't had a cold in about two years.
Also messing up my mental health :(

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 06/11/2021 14:32

I have that cold. Day one, odd feeling in the head - spaced out - runny nose. Improved a bit. Day 8, very sore throat; by day 10 throat less sore, nose running like a tap. Negative LFT. Continued. Negative PCR, still negative LFT. Now day 14 and having coughing fits from the post-nasal drip, especially at night.

I don’t feel “sick” other than the above symptoms and some loss of appetite, but it’s very annoying. I’m not someone normally prey to colds and I don’t think I’ve ever had flu.

babyinthacorner1 · 06/11/2021 16:37

@LolaSmiles this. Came and went about 3 times, each time with different symptoms. This time it’s the same symptom- agonising sore throat that is not going away Sad

ChilliChaos · 06/11/2021 17:04

Has anyone else got the pain in the base of the throat? Like where they’d put a tracheotomy? The initial sore throat seems to have moved further back and added a random stabbing pain. Will be week 4 starting for me tomorrow and still feel as rubbish

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 06/11/2021 17:25

@ChilliChaos I have exactly that same pain & it came back yesterday.
I originally started with this mega cold/flu like thing 4 weeks ago & I finally thought it had shifted on Tuesday - obviously spoke to soon as apart from the very painful throat, I'm also full of phlegm, very wheezy & ache all over again.
The other symptoms I had were shivers, headaches, constant cough, cold sweats, earache & one day felt very nauseous.
DD has been the same but we've done LFTs & PCRs all negative.
However my best friend & her DD have the same symptoms but friend is negative for Covid on all tests yet her DD was positive. The other family members have no symptoms & are negative.
My parents also have also had the same symptoms but all their tests negative.
One of my DSis & her partner have tested positive for Covid with the above systems.
So I don't know if this mega lurgy is just so similar to Covid but not Covid or if we'll find out later on that's it a relation to Covid.
I hope everyone that is suffering gets better soon

CouldThisReallyBe · 06/11/2021 17:29

I have this now. No temp / cough / loss of taste or smell. Positive LFT, waiting for PCR result.

x2boys · 06/11/2021 20:14

I had the cold ,I felt awful for about a week hacking cough and really exhausted ,LFT,s and PCR both negative ,my son had PCR confirmed COVID at the start of the summer holidays ,I felt far more unwell than he did 🤷

oneglassandpuzzled · 06/11/2021 20:21

Has anyone has fever and rigors with the cold?

KittenKong · 06/11/2021 20:35

When I lie down I feel like someone is squeezing my throat - quite uncomfortable. The dry cough is relentless and I don’t feel myself - not bothered about food, I physically feel my tummy rumbling but I just can’t face eating anything (which is very unlike me).

Bleugh.

Benjispruce5 · 07/11/2021 09:17

Anyone with cold symptoms should get a test!
