Just as the title says. If your school doesn't have them booked imminently you can now arrange vaccination locally.

There's nothing close to us. But, if we are able to get away to see family next week then DD might be able to get a jab down there.

Oblomov21 · 22/10/2021 16:58

Well. What a disaster this all is then? Hmm

SlipperyLizard · 22/10/2021 17:19

Mine booked earlier has just been cancelled, and now that centre isn’t showing availability anymore - back to centres many miles away.

DH is taking DD to his mum’s next week, so I’ve booked one near there. Let’s see if it sticks!

Unanananana · 22/10/2021 17:26

Booked one 7 miles away which was promptly cancelled. Now rebooked for a site a 30 minute drive away. I'll be checking daily to move it to somewhere more sensible.

ReginaSpaghetti99 · 22/10/2021 20:43

After several attempts, I finally managed to book DS in for next week at our local centre.

winterisaroundthecorner · 22/10/2021 20:47

I managed to book one 15 miles away. It's a pain that there are no centre close by, but I thought earlier the better, so quite happy to be able to do this during half term holiday.

WindUpBird · 22/10/2021 20:57

My local one was also cancelled within an hour of booking it. Bizarre.

Isn't a 7 mile drive the best part of 30 minutes?
WholeClassKeptIn · 22/10/2021 21:06

Mines not cancelled... but an hour away.

I can't see if any closer places have opened up without cancelling the slot :(

Unanananana · 22/10/2021 21:24

The first one was 7 miles as the crow flies, about a 15-20 minute drive according to google maps. The other is 30 minutes mostly on the motorway, so a longer drive. Either way, its stupid. There is a massive vaccination centre a ten minute walk from our home. Its this or wait another month for the school (who contacted us today reccomending we get them jabbed over the half term holiday).
Cannot believe some posters are having closest options as 150 miles away. Its an absolute joke.

toodizzyizzy · 22/10/2021 21:30

For anyone in Manchester, Whalley Range Tennis Club is now showing as an option for 12-15 year olds.

DaxtheDestroyer · 22/10/2021 22:21

I've managed to get one a 40-min drive away now. Lucky we have a car and can get to it.

winterisaroundthecorner · 22/10/2021 22:24

Anyone who find it difficult to go to the centre that's far away, I agree it sucks. But I also think about the benefit of dc being vaccinated as early as possible and being ready when virus get to them. If they had covid before, the effect of vaccine is even better, they can get better immunity for future infection. I just find it hard to believe any parent not wanting the best for their children, not for them to suffer or not to have any disruption for their education.

Yes there is a worry of adverse effect of vaccine, but the data is clear, that the % of adverse effect of the vaccine is way smaller than that is caused by the virus.

CooDeGrass · 23/10/2021 10:23

Well, DD won’t get her jab booked for Monday as she’s tested positive this morning. :-(

So frustrating, and I bet there are loads of us in the same position who’ve wanted our teens vaccinated but haven’t been able to before they actually catch it.

The closest is now 55 miles away. There are obviously no centres here or in surrounding towns.

We have now had some info from the school and they will be having a date in mid Nov. Not a chance they’ll get through the full school then.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 23/10/2021 12:12

I can now book one 45 mins drive away but on a Wednesday morning mid-November.

I’m gong to hold on and hope something local appears in the next few days. We have 3 vaccination centres within 15 minutes drive of home.

pullingmyhairout2 · 23/10/2021 12:39

@Unanananana

Website not accepting my 13 year old DD is eligible. GP has confirmed her records are up to date. Called 119 to book and they cut me off due to high call volumes.

How exactly are we meant to vaccinate our teens that apparently pose such a massive risk to everyone else apparently when the school vaccination arrangements have been non-existent (not a whisper from her school about when) and the website won't work? Walk in centres around here won't jab her (contrary to what I heard on the radio).

I want DD to have her jab, she wants her jab. But I cannot access one for her.

I had this problem. Put in our old postcode and it accepted it. Rang the docs and they have the right address, rang 119 and apparently we are not the only ones it's happened too. So might be worth trying ur last post code.
toodizzyizzy · 23/10/2021 16:17

I posted last night that there was a site open in Manchester this weekend in Whalley Range. Turns out the booking went live too soon. They will be ready from Monday. I don't know why our appointment wasn't cancelled, we didn't know until we turned up!

SlipperyLizard · 23/10/2021 20:12

That’s interesting @toodizzyizzy, my cancelled appointment was tomorrow at the Etihad.

I rebooked near MIL after it was cancelled. then when I checked again today it was offering me appointments tomorrow at Etihad again or Whalley Range. They’re about the same distance but parking at the Etihad is easier so I chose that - I hope it doesn’t get cancelled again/we don’t turn up and find it cancelled!

toodizzyizzy · 23/10/2021 20:20

@SlipperyLizard Hope you get better luck at the Ethiad. The cancelled appointment today was at Whalley Range. We were told that they would be ready from Monday, so they shouldn't be showing available appointments for tomorrow - unless something has changed, it's really chaotic! I am waiting for the system to cancel today's appointment so I can rebook for during the week.

Watapalava · 23/10/2021 20:46

why not just wait theyll be done in school in next few weeks!

WholeClassKeptIn · 23/10/2021 20:47

Have you seen how the school roll oit has been going so far!?

toodizzyizzy · 23/10/2021 21:06

@Watapalava They aren't coming back to my son's school. We have been told to book via the national booking system

winterisaroundthecorner · 23/10/2021 21:40

@Watapalava

Earlier the better, since it takes time to be effective. Especially you really don't know when they are done in school, and also better to be done during half term. No brainer. When I booked, there were appointment available from next day.
SlipperyLizard · 23/10/2021 22:15

@toodizzyizzy I’d be less worried if it hadn’t shown me Whalley Range tomorrow - I almost booked it until I considered the parking. We’ll see!
