Just as the title says. If your school doesn't have them booked imminently you can now arrange vaccination locally.

toodizzyizzy · 23/10/2021 22:32

@SlipperyLizard I really hope it does go ahead, especially as it's the main centre for many people 🤞

NeverForgetYourDreams · 24/10/2021 07:10

@Watapalava

why not just wait theyll be done in school in next few weeks!
Our local healthcare service have paused all flu and Covid jabs for teens due to 'staff shortages'

Nearest centre online is 50 miles away.

I'm working half term - we could have sorted a visit to a local centre

It's a joke. He's 16 in a couple of mo the but we can't find any centres in our County.

DaxtheDestroyer · 24/10/2021 09:09

Our school were told it'd definitely be done by half term. Another (junior) school were told that flu vaccine would be done mid-way through the term. Got a date, date was cancelled 2 days before, no sign of a new date. Covid is rife in both schools. I'd rather sort it out myself and get my teen protected now than take the risk of yet more time off in a GCSE year.

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 09:29

We have one booked next county along - an hour away.

I dont think our county has a plan beyond " in schools" next month 😔

SlipperyLizard · 24/10/2021 12:27

All done at the Etihad today, phew!

CactusFlowers · 24/10/2021 13:06

I should have tried to make the 55 mile away one as our closest is now 139 miles away.

Nothing on the local NHS, CCG, council websites about any provision being put in place. They also removed all of the adult walk in provision recently. No wonder we have low vaccination rates here.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/10/2021 15:17

I tried on Friday - nearest was 50 miles away. Yesterday was 30 miles away - and today our local one popped up. Booked for tomorrow.
It's worth looking back if you have been offered a very distant one.
School had not given an indication of date as they were still waiting to hear - I think this way when the local teams do get round to school, if some of us who can have already taken them to get it, it means fewer to get through in the school clinic.

CactusFlowers · 24/10/2021 15:41

I’ve looked multiple times. I’ll keep checking but it’s frustrating that there is no information about if/when local clinics are likely to open.

And another two of dc’s friends tested positive yesterday. 🙄

FourTeaFallOut · 24/10/2021 16:13

DS 1 & 2 are booked in for early next week. Their school hasn't even handed out consent forms yet so I don't have any great expectation that it'll be done in school any time soon.

toodizzyizzy · 24/10/2021 16:31

@SlipperyLizard Good to know it went ahead, I've booked there for tomorrow evening 👍

NetflixCompleted · 24/10/2021 16:48

@SlipperyLizard

All done at the Etihad today, phew!
@SlipperyLizard Can I ask how busy it was? A different queue for kids? Last time I went for my vaccine it was very busy and 2 separate queues
winterisaroundthecorner · 24/10/2021 16:51

Just got back from the vax centre, place was so busy and buzzing. So many teens, looked all happy and willing to get vaccinated. It's hard to believe those thread that poster after poster are saying they won't get their children vaccinated are reflection of real life. Maybe it's only on MN that happens.

It's a great relief, only one shot, but at least my dc is protected.

AppleArtist · 24/10/2021 16:51

Took our 12 year old for her jab yesterday. They asked about allergies, and we mentioned that she can't use normal sun cream as she swells up. They said she might have a PEG (polyethylene glycol) allergy. As PEG is an ingredient in Pfizer they wouldn't jab her. Have to go back to GP for written consent/allergy tests/might have to be jabbed in an allergy safe hospital setting. Glad they are being so careful with their checks.

SlipperyLizard · 24/10/2021 17:33

@NetflixCompleted I’d say it was less busy than when I got mine there, separate queue inside for 12-15s. A bit of a wait to have it done, 4 kids ahead of us, but didn’t take long really.

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 17:41

Daughter done in Southampton today. Very well organised. Very efficient. Really impressed.

She would also get v anxious in school waiting for it that to do it with me was worth it :)

winterisaroundthecorner · 24/10/2021 17:53

The vaccination where my dc got it today was only for 12-15 years old.
We had to speak to the person before entering, confirming the appointment. And we had to speak to a person checked my dc's medical history. We took slightly longer than others because my dc had underlying condition. I had to give consent for vaccination.
Then we had to speak to another person confirming everything, dc spoke, not me.
Last time, my dc had to speak to the person by the side of the nurse who was vaccinating him.
Then she asked last questions before injecting vaccine.

We were there for 3. out of there by 3:35, after 15 minutes waiting period after vaccination.

I would say it's thorough and organised.

Madcats · 24/10/2021 18:10

I am so pleased they have finally realised that the school vaccine service in our area can't cope. The mass vaccine centre is out of town at a racecourse and the nearest bus stops is a mile away.

We're in BathNES. The school was SUPPOSED to have been done in early October, but the school vaccine service didn't have enough staff. They are AIMING to return before the end of November.

In the interim we were one of the schools affected by the duff PCR tests from mid September. In the past month so I reckon 20-30% of kids will have caught it (based solely on quizzing our teen and updates from school) and others have been missing school waiting for PCR results.

Now you would have thought that the public health team would have figured out how to second some of the mass vaccine centre staff to assist the school teams.....

Sadly daily coronavirus stats are showing the infections spreading from the teens up to the 40-50 year olds and down to younger siblings.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/10/2021 18:49

Our local one is doing a clinic just for 12-15s tomorrow. Rest of the week is the boosters for those who need boosting - so they're not mixing potentially covidy teens with the elderly / vulnerable going for a booster which seems sensible.

I asked my teen for consent before I booked (well shouted through the bedroom door "d'you want a jab tomorrow?" and got a mumbled "OK then" in reply, that'll do me).

NeverForgetYourDreams · 24/10/2021 20:01

Dorset not a single centre locally.

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 20:02

Never Forget- that's why we did southampton. It was that or Salisbury!

NeverForgetYourDreams · 25/10/2021 06:30

If I wasn't working this week but can't get there annoyingly

Shutitwierdo · 25/10/2021 11:04

Just looked and 30 miles is the nearest. I'm in Dorset

WholeClassKeptIn · 25/10/2021 11:40

Maybe Dorset has a really organised plan for vaccinating all the school children in the next few weeks. I mean its... possible...

If you do decided to go to southampton it had excellent parking, well signposted, friendly staff and all over in half an hour. (Have to wait 15mins after the jab inncase of reaction)

We thought if there was any reaction it would happen in half term and my child was anxious about it being done in school.

Eccle80 · 25/10/2021 16:02

I was able to get my son vaccinated at a walk in at the weekend. It was busy, but probably just under half were 12-15, the rest were people getting boosters (which did worry me slightly, mixing the most vulnerable with the age group most likely to have Covid).

For anyone struggling, it may be worth trying again, I know my area had posted there were some issues with the appointments at local centres showing, but this afternoon I can now see them and could have one within the hour if I still needed it.

DaxtheDestroyer · 25/10/2021 17:12

My DC had their vaccine this morning. Massive queue, we were there for over 2 hours and the queue when we left was even longer.
Demand is clearly there for the vaccines, the rhetoric of low uptake in the teen age group really annoys me. This is the first opportunity we've had to get it done!
