Just as the title says. If your school doesn't have them booked imminently you can now arrange vaccination locally.

Agreed, I couldn't book anywhere within 40 miles when I tried on Friday and Sunday. Now I am able to book at the large vaccination centre which is just round the corner from our house.

DS's school team were actually good in that they vaccinated everyone possible the first week of the rollout. Unfortunately, around 50% of the school, including DS, were ineligible for a shot as they either currently had Covid or had had it within the previous 28 days. No info on when they may be back in school to catch up yet. So I'm really relieved that DS can finally get protected as he still isn't 100% after getting Covid 6+ weeks ago and I don't want him catching it again in a few weeks.

I agree Dax, I know of very few schools locally who had been offered the vaccination before half term, and as we hadn’t even had the consent form for DS’s, I can’t imagine he would have had it done for weeks if I hadn’t been able to take him at the weekend.

I think a good number will take it up once they have the opportunity to

Our county finally online. Teen booked in :-)

@WholeClassKeptIn

Maybe Dorset has a really organised plan for vaccinating all the school children in the next few weeks. I mean its... possible...

If you do decided to go to southampton it had excellent parking, well signposted, friendly staff and all over in half an hour. (Have to wait 15mins after the jab inncase of reaction)

We thought if there was any reaction it would happen in half term and my child was anxious about it being done in school.

Nope. They've announced on internet that pausing due to staffing issues. But local centre now online at last

@Shutitwierdo

Just looked and 30 miles is the nearest. I'm in Dorset
Kings Park now online
WholeClassKeptIn · 25/10/2021 18:52

Oh thats fab news! I really did wonder if Dorset was just going to lag behind!

CactusFlowers · 27/10/2021 10:24

Still no half term clinics here.

We got letter from NHS yesterday saying 12-15 yo could now have vaccination at a vax centre instead of having to wait for school rollout (would be end of November for our school). Booked online yesterday and had vaccination today. Plenty of appointment slots online, and a fair queue when we went there, so seems to be a decent take up of it. Interestingly though, there seemed to be no adult vaccinations occurring at the same time (the centre was setup with two queues - one for adults, one for 12-15s). Can only presume they're separating the age groups into separate time slots.

They should have been doing it this way from the start (from July actually), school vaccination rollout has been a shambles.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 27/10/2021 16:13

Yes we got the letter the day after he had the jab! Our local centre isn't mixing age groups either.
When I booked boosters for my parents this week there was a lot more choice of centres / appointments including local pharmacies etc. than for the teens.

Echo40 · 27/10/2021 22:17

My 12 year old had covid and flu nasal spray at the University vaccine site.
It was only place when I booked doing 12 to 15 or I would have had travel to another nearby city.

Madcats · 28/10/2021 07:57

DD had hers yesterday. The only vaccine centre for miles is doling out 300 doses/day in dedicated sessions*.

The School vaccine service has possibly done 500 (it's hard to tell as the ONS/coronavirus dashboard keep adding and removing doses!).

A Twitter exchange/back of an envelope calculation estimated that 10,000 kids are eligible 12-15 year olds. Admittedly 20-25% will have to wait until late November/December because they've just had/have Covid.

The bulk of adult boosters will start being due at about the same time. 🤔

*the vaccine centre is a mile away from nearest public transport (an hourly shuttle bus stops early in the afternoon session).

Is else unable to make an online booking for a just turned 12 year old? DD12 was 12 this month, missed the session at school as she was still 11 on that day and I just get "You are not currently eligible to book through this service" on nhs.uk. This is a 1st dose/no medical issues.

Rhubarblin · 29/10/2021 14:58

anyone else*

Maybe loading on age by age and area by area. DS15 didn't come online straight away
