There was never any possibility or suggestion of 3-4% dying in the first wave or any wave.

That was an early WHO estimate of mortality in the first wave. You can look it up if you like.

If healthcare systems fail then mortality increases hugely - that mostly didn't happen and mortality is now much reduced because of vaccinations and also medical advances.

Unless masks are mandatory for school children there's simply no point in making the rest of us wear them, 90% of transmission in our area is at the school.

dingit · 20/10/2021 16:25

It seems like he's got the Pointless slot again Grin

herecomesthsun · 20/10/2021 16:35

Probably sensble not to have squeezed themselves in before Bake Off.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 20/10/2021 16:46

@Sparklingbrook

I wouldn’t mind Christmas being cancelled. I’d like a year off from it I hate Christmas. Have a huge Christmas every other year maybe.
Did we not have a "year off" from Christmas last year? I could have sworn I wasn't allowed to see DD or my siblings because of restrictions The howls of "selfish covidiots" that dominated MN at anyone daring to see family must have been my imagination.

So This year must be the year we have a Christmas then according to you.

Is it on instead of pointless? Or on BBC 2?

Remember that one where everyone wanted him to get on with it coz strictly was on?
2Two · 20/10/2021 16:56

With nearly 50,000 new cases reported today, I do hope there are some journalists with the bottle to ask some very hard questions.

What should we call him..? 🤷🏻‍♀️[/quote]
"That pratt Johnson"

Unlikely.

Most people who have been vaccinated or have already had covid may have a sense of invincibility about them and just aren’t bothered anymore.

YoungGiftedPlump · 20/10/2021 16:58

@TheFairyCaravan

Stop calling him Boris. He’s not your mate. You wouldn’t have said “there’s a press conference with Dave” or “there’s a press conference with Theresa” would you?
For Dave I would have said-oh-Young,Gifted and Plump is speaking later.

I know Dave and Boris-am I allowed to use their names?

AutumnLeafy · 20/10/2021 17:02

Boris is better than BoJo

Alonghairinapie · 20/10/2021 17:05

Bozza and cozza go on an adventure

GoodnightGrandma · 20/10/2021 17:06

Is it actually on ? Can’t see it listed on the TV

fashionSOS · 20/10/2021 17:08

Thought I'd missed it. Hasn't actually started yet...

GoodnightGrandma · 20/10/2021 17:09

Just found it on BBC news - still waiting for it to start, but it’s going to be on

ilikegrapes21 · 20/10/2021 17:09

They've hidden it on the BBC News Channel I think. Can't cancel Antiques Road Trip!!!

IntermittentParps · 20/10/2021 17:10

@SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend

I get irritated by the 'Boris' thing, too. It's a hokey schtick designed to make us feel more connected and fond of him. But all his family and friends actually call him Alex. So, every time someone matily calls him Boris - and the papers push the nonsense - it makes me annoyed.

Johnson. That's what I call him. That's the most polite thing I call him, anyway.

Totally agree. I refuse to use it, since it got him elected mayor here in London when people thought he was a harmless buffoon and it'd be a laugh having him as mayor. I thought it was a Trojan horse then, and I feel like I'm only getting more and more right.
Viviennemary · 20/10/2021 17:12

Couldn't even find it. So it can't be that important.

PicsInRed · 20/10/2021 17:15

Haha, cases rising all about Winter, nothing to do with that SW testing fiasco eh Sajid 🤣🤣

It’s on LBC
TrampolineForMrKite · 20/10/2021 17:15

@IntermittentParps agreed. I remember the day after he was elected in London in 2008 feeling like the mayor very much had no clothes. Lived in a pocket of BJ voters at the time and it seemed like some mad fucking cult. Things have only gotten worse.

I distinctly remember a very clever Politics MA student of my acquaintance at the time saying “you wait, he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He wants to burn everything down from the inside”. That lad has been proven pretty correct in the years since.

Gizmo98765 · 20/10/2021 17:16

Can’t be that important if not on mainstream Tv.
