re calling him Boris -its because its a way of NOT showing respect
I am sure most of us either add a phrase or adjective along side his name
aka that prat Boris (polite version) (watch for the grammar police now Grin)

Alonghairinapie · 20/10/2021 15:13

HCA healthcare assistant

Alonghairinapie · 20/10/2021 15:15

Well it cannot take anymore, ‘just because it’s been that way for years’ isn’t any kind of answer.
@2389Champ
It's not piss taking if they are providing an essential service, is it now?

They are probably paid far less than they would be if they worked for private healthcare.
It is when it’s tax payers money.

If it was in a private healthcare scenario, spending of money would be far closer examined.

Incidentally, and just to make it clear to some who have accused me of selfishness, I personally do wear a mask and have had my jabs but respect the wishes and feelings of those who choose not to.

herecomesthsun · 20/10/2021 15:19

We also have not exactly been doing this "to protect the NHS", more like, it has been to prevent a large number of deaths in our own family and friends, and possibly ourselves, hasn't it?

The NHS is in many ways a great (if underfunded) idea but if 3-4% of the population were to have died in the first wave, we would have had a sort of small armageddon going on which would have been hellish to love through.

This wasn't about a sentimental attachment to the NHS. it was about self-preservation.

Gonnagetgoing · 20/10/2021 15:26

Whenever I see Boris now I can tell if he wants to be taken seriously because if so he has hair brushed and looks smarter. If not (most of the time) it's the old ruffled, dragged through a hedge backwards look which basically means "I'm alright Jack, British public can get f*cked".

My point exactly.

We all are selfish because we want the NHS to be there when we need it so we attack those that aren’t wearing masks or having their jabs. If we’re truly honest, none of really care whether Joe Bloggs down the road gets Covid, as long as he doesn’t infect us

There was never any possibility or suggestion of 3-4% dying in the first wave or any wave.

And in my family there was no real risk of any of us dying of Covid, statistically speaking. We locked down because we were told to, to protect the NHS and save lives.

But that schtick got old pretty quickly

Parker231 · 20/10/2021 15:33

The 54 old father of a friend was buried today. No health problems until Covid. I’m 100% for mandatory mask wearing to try and save lives. Other countries have better controls in place with less cases and deaths. Boris and his government have handled this appallingly.

I work for the NHS in Scotland - our local A and E depts are on their knees due to staff shortages and sickness - we have actually drafted in the army - 12 hour wait at the weekend which is definitely not the norm. Staff are leaving due to stress and it is becoming impossible to recruit replacements - it really is a dire situation - it certainly hasn't "been that way for years." Nurses pulled from their normal roles into the wards - given no choice in the matter. It really is a desperate situation.
highstreetdiestreet · 20/10/2021 15:35

@Dontgetyerknicksinatwist

Hopefully to say he’s resigning. Sadly I don’t think it will be that…
Is it 2020 again?
Iggly · 20/10/2021 15:43

@TheFairyCaravan

Stop calling him Boris. He’s not your mate. You wouldn’t have said “there’s a press conference with Dave” or “there’s a press conference with Theresa” would you?
I agree. Call him Prime Minister and then you realise how ridiculous it is that we have such a buffoon in charge
ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 20/10/2021 15:45

Maybe it will be about drop in vaccination centres for teens. Friend of mine who is working in one said they’ve been given the nod that they’ll be doing this from tomorrow.

I couldn't agree more. It's not even the name his family call him. It's a persona he has adopted.
ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 20/10/2021 15:50

Press conference is being done by Sajiv Javid not Boris.

Christmas definitely won't be cancelled which means it definitely will.

littlestmunchkin · 20/10/2021 15:58

I'd like them to announce that teenagers can have 2 vaccines. Although it won't be that as presumably we'd do the whole JVCI route first .

I'm becoming resigned to that fact that I'll have to wait another 5 years when dd is18 to travel again !

Is that Savage Sajiv Javid?!
littlestmunchkin · 20/10/2021 16:02

Well at least Javid knows that only women have cervixes.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 16:04

Wear a mask and the underlying message will be to bully and hassle those who dont We want you the public to police each other.

Quartz2208 · 20/10/2021 16:05

Drop in vaccines centres for teens have been up and running where I am since Monday - quite a few of DDs friends (she is already vaccinated) have had it done.

Its changing from walk in though to booking so I expect that will be as well.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 16:11

"we have created loads of anxiety and we want you the public to deal with the consequences of our actions by donning masks again to appease the anxiety of others which we caused"

herecomesthsun · 20/10/2021 16:16

and also they help reduce the spread of infection
