"We should all be proud of..."

Oh God, this feels like the beginning of a shit sandwich. I'm sure he's getting ready to say something awful next.

Viviennemary · 20/10/2021 17:16

Thznks. Suppose I will look. Nothing better to do.

IntermittentParps · 20/10/2021 17:17
@IntermittentParps agreed. I remember the day after he was elected in London in 2008 feeling like the mayor very much had no clothes. Lived in a pocket of BJ voters at the time and it seemed like some mad fucking cult. Things have only gotten worse.

I distinctly remember a very clever Politics MA student of my acquaintance at the time saying “you wait, he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He wants to burn everything down from the inside”. That lad has been proven pretty correct in the years since.
Yep. I felt like Cassandra.

flipflop76 · 20/10/2021 17:17

@2389Champ

Here we go again.

If wearing a mask makes you feel safer - wear it. If having the jab makes you feels safer - have it. Make your own health choices and let others make their own. If going out when others aren’t masked frightens you, don’t go out.

You know what your individual risk is and those of your family. Use your common sense. Before Covid, did we see those undergoing immunotherapy such as chemo demanding that that the whole world accommodated their needs? Patients like this were advised and aware exposure to even a common cold could be life threatening, so they made their own choices.

How about we all take responsibility for our selves rather than fussing endlessly about what others are and aren’t doing?

He’s really not. It’s just rah rah politics.
woodlands01 · 20/10/2021 17:21

Boring .............

PicsInRed · 20/10/2021 17:22

This is such party political broadcast bullshit.

fashionSOS · 20/10/2021 17:22

Did he say boosters after 6 months for everyone?

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2021 17:22

I prefer it to the restriction ones

Fine by me - not much in it

DoubleShotEspresso · 20/10/2021 17:23

This is painful, what an absolute shitshow

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 20/10/2021 17:23

Loads of those eligible for boosters aren't yet six months past their last jab. I imagine that's got something to do with the 'low take-up'.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 20/10/2021 17:25

I'm not exactly surprised we aren't going for plan B. Why do it now and prevent disaster, when we can do it when it's already too late? That's how we roll here, apparently.

woodlands01 · 20/10/2021 17:26

I work in a school where all have been jabbed, we are wearing masks in classrooms and cases continue to rise. Absence has really increased this week. I'll get my booster jab - no other advice from this conference.

They've only done 25% of care home residents - that's appalling.

This conference is offering NOTHING. We're doing what we did this time last year and being driven over a cliff by a government which could apply the brakes by bringing back some measures (like other countries, with much lower infections, such as mask wearing).

Exactly. What is the point of this press conference? All the experts are calling for Plan B measures NOW.
Wakemeuuuup · 20/10/2021 17:27

I wish Chris Whitty or Patrick Vallance were there, I'd feel more reassured then, particularly Chris Whitty

EXACTLY.
IndigoC · 20/10/2021 17:28

Ugh, Jenny Harries. How she got promoted after dissing face masks and arguing for not bothering to test people back in April 2020 I will never understand.

VickyEadieofThigh · 20/10/2021 17:28

Morocco is first country to announce ban on UK flights...

Wait for the others to follow.

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2021 17:28

Get the booster

That's what we're seeing in our school too. The issue doesn't seem to be vaccines or masks or schools. It's because the government changed the definition of contacts. Until they change it back, the cases are going to continue rising.
tomorrowalready · 20/10/2021 17:29

Yes, IntermittentPaps, I saw a wolf in a fool's clothing in plain sight when I first saw BJ on Have I Got News For You. Can't bear to watch or listen to him or any of his family. To my shame I dreamt of him and his hair the other night, sorry approaching jonson levels of distraction there.

berlinbabylon · 20/10/2021 17:29

People did on MN - anyone who took a child with chicken pox outside for a walk in an empty park was vilified. Rather than expecting women who were TTC to make sure they were vaccinated against chicken pox first if they didn't think they'd had it...

However, I do think mask wearing in crowded indoor spaces like trains and shops is common sense and will help prevent people get colds which they then need to get tests for "because covid presents like a cold in vaccinated people".

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 20/10/2021 17:29

I'm eligible for my booster but can't book it yet because not enough time has passed since my 2nd jab.

but not banning UK residents who are fully vaccinated or present a negative PCR - so a bit pointless, really.
