@MilesJuppIsMyBitch

I think I might change my surname to Aardvark. Work the system.
😂 I've got an early alphabet surname but it's going to do bugger all for me. You can have mine!
Sparklingbrook · 20/10/2021 18:46

Did we not have a "year off" from Christmas last year? I could have sworn I wasn't allowed to see DD or my siblings because of restrictions The howls of "selfish covidiots" that dominated MN at anyone daring to see family must have been my imagination

So This year must be the year we have a Christmas then according to you

Well Christmas still happened last year. There was a tree and gifts, carols and Christmas food IIRC. So no it wasn't a year off from Christmas. Maybe a year off from visiting people at Christmas if people followed the rules.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 18:53

Universal free healthcare is when doctors make it a crime to see your mum every winter.

toffeeshock · 20/10/2021 18:54

@IndigoC Wales still has masks too (they have to be worn by law in shops and on public transport) and we also have very high rates.

HauntedPencil · 20/10/2021 19:10

Wales are pretty much already doing plan b - so that's not going to have an impact eg masks work from home vaccine passports starting up.

IntermittentParps · 20/10/2021 19:13

@tomorrowalready

Yes, IntermittentPaps, I saw a wolf in a fool's clothing in plain sight when I first saw BJ on Have I Got News For You. Can't bear to watch or listen to him or any of his family. To my shame I dreamt of him and his hair the other night, sorry approaching jonson levels of distraction there.
Vom! Grin

It was London (and perhaps a few other places - NE England?) which had no Christmas last year and none the year before due to covid restrictions. Hopeful Christmas 2021 will be allowed again. Every family holiday since 2019 has been cancelled for us too due to the cover restrictions.

Hamjamwich · 20/10/2021 19:16

You are supposed to wait for GP to contact before booking a booster.

WouldBeGood · 20/10/2021 19:17

None of these things work.

We’ve just got to go with it now.

SoupDragon · 20/10/2021 19:18

Only Christmas 2020 was affected by Covid.

Christmas still happened. Confused Christmas itself, just the rules around visiting each other changed at short notice.
@toomuchlaundry on the 27th July.

I was told VERY firmly that there is no way they will mix them.
They will mix them. My DP had AZ in March, then decided he didn't want a second AZ due to the blood clotting issues. A couple of weeks ago he checked the local walk in center who were doing Pfizer and Moderna. He went along and told them he didn't want to have AZ but wanted one of the others. He had to talk to a doctor there, but they did allow him to have it. He isn't allergic or anything like that to AZ, he simply didn't want another, and was prepared to walk out and try elsewhere till he got an mRNA jab. He said as much to the doctore. So he got his Pfizer jab! Now happily double-vaxxed.

We had no Christmas here in Buckinghamshire.
MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 19:28

I wonder why she was so adamant then.

Livelovebehappy · 20/10/2021 19:31

We need to just live alongside the virus now, as has been said a trillion times. Those of us that have been vaccinated and get the boosters, may still get it, but very minimal symptoms. The ones who may be hospitalised and get I’ll with it are those who refuse to be vaccinated, and to be honest I’m not going into another lockdown to protect those people. Their choice, but their choice shouldn’t impact the rest of us.

God you really live in a bubble don’t you. No christmas didn’t happen for some people last year because without family, it’s not Christmas. My FIL is caring for MIL with dementia. She had no clue what day it is much less Christmas and we weren’t allowed to see them as planned. So no. He didn’t have a Christmas. Don’t care what’s happening this year. We are being with them. You would have to lock us up to prevent it.

I’m willing to bet a lot of people haven’t been vaccinated because the 1/3 of the hubs have gone.
MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 19:37

Hear hear @Silverswirl

NotMyCat · 20/10/2021 19:44

@garlictwist

Not sure what the point of encouraging people to get their booster is when they are only offering it to a few people anyway. Everyone under 50 can't get it.
CEV can I'm booked for a third dose (not booster) as I'm CEV and 36
Poetrypatty · 20/10/2021 19:50

One of the things I've been questioning is the volunteers who kindly assisted with the whole programme especially at the start of this year. Are the government relying on those people continuing to help out indefinitely or have they taken on staff for this booster programme?

Sparklingbrook · 20/10/2021 19:51

God you really live in a bubble don’t you.

No I don't. I really really wish I did though.

RedRiverShore · 20/10/2021 19:55

I guess most of those that didn't care about seeing people last Christmas probably had their little family living with them anyway and we're glad of the excuse not to see their wider family.

toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 19:59

@Xenia how did you miss 2 Christmases? There has only been one under COVID in this country.

I thought people could meet up but it was restricted by days and number of people.

I’ve seen no evidence of additional staff? Locally in our town there are no vaccine hubs (they did have them when vaccinating the over 40s but anyone below 40 were expected to travel 6+ miles).

I agree re only on Christmas but in London we had stricter rules
