@MilesJuppIsMyBitch

The boosters are still only for over-fifties and those with specific underlying health conditions.

At the moment.

Apart from anything else, people not in those groups would still be less than six months away from their last jab.

Ah, OK. I keep tuning out, it's very difficult to listen to these people saying nothing-y things!

I thought I'd probably missed something, thanks.

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/10/2021 17:40

Nb both of us are over 50.

DarlingCoffee · 20/10/2021 17:41

So infuriating- how can we NOT be at that point yet?!

Againstmachine · 20/10/2021 17:42

I see most of the journos at the conference are not wearing masks.

They don't have to so there is no problem.

TheOnlyMrsM · 20/10/2021 17:42

yes, boosters for the over 50s plus vulnerable groups,

2389Champ · 20/10/2021 17:42

@Againstmachine

I wish Chris Whitty or Patrick Vallance were there, I'd feel more reassured then, particularly Chris Whitty

No trust in those two, liars and present false stats.

And worth remembering, a government will always select experts that support their policies. Clearly, the government, Whitty and Valance are no longer on the same page.

Very worthwhile reading State of Fear - how the U.K. government weaponised fear during the COVID-19 pandemic by Laura Dodsworth.

I can assure you it isn’t a antivaxx/fanatical/tin foil hat wearer handbook. Dodsworth analyses and presents facts in a rational, realistic way and will make you appreciate how all our panic was manipulated and exploited by the authorities.

What load of rubbish. We expect people to follow the guidance re masks but we are not going say you have to wear one. Why such mixed messages? I really don’t get it! One breath we must do all we can get through enter and have good Xmas let’s all do our part but on pain of death we not going say you must wear a mask in crowded places just jokingly talk about guidance.

Once again we be looking back as to little to late.

You're right. He did say one good thing during this press conference.[/quote]
Well, I will be telling anyone who pressures me to do one. They know why I have not had it. Nagging me wont change it anymore then telling a depressed person to cheer up will.

TheOnlyMrsM · 20/10/2021 17:43

Posted too soon - ...6 months after their second dose.

User135644 · 20/10/2021 17:44

Government too slow to act. Again. Lockdown therefore inevitable. Again.

Christmas is cancelled.

fashionSOS · 20/10/2021 17:44

I thought the briefing encouraged us to wear masks indoors?

Mixed messages...

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/10/2021 17:45

@MercyBooth

I attempted to get my second vaccine and was refused it because i was told they cant mix them. My first was Moderna and the same clinic are now doing Pfizer. I was told "oh you can get it done here (mentions town an hours bus ride away and our bus services are unreliable and frequently dont turn up. or £35 taxi ride away £35 ONE WAY) Sorry Cant afford it They cant have it all.

How many people have experienced logistical problems like this. Instead of these problems being tackled they would rather scream "anti vaxers"

Mercy I recall a young adult in the Valleys or deep Monmouthshire facing a ridiculous 10 hour journey from home to jab centre because of poor public transport, buses not linking up with trains, no taxis or ubers (cos rural) so yep, I can quite believe that your trip would be unaffordable both monetary and time wise.
TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 20/10/2021 17:45

Should he not have added that the booster for over fifties is if you have been invited for it? I just tried to book it but have been knocked back because I haven't been invited for it yet.

wishingitwasfriday · 20/10/2021 17:46

@2389Champ

“Most people who have been vaccinated or have already had covid may have a sense of invincibility about them and just aren’t bothered anymore.“

Can you blame them? We were told the vaccines were the way out and the key to normality - no doubt to ensure uptake. We were assured it had been fully researched, despite the speed of its production. No expert ever mentioned the fact that despite having the jab, you could still catch Covid and give it to others. Those facts were slowly and stealthy stirred into the mix out of nowhere.

This is utter rubbish. It has been widely publicised that you could still catch and spread covid. It reduces the risk of you needing hospital treatment, hence the vast reduction in hospital admissions. Stop spreading rubbish and actually read news from reputable sources.
TheOnlyMrsM · 20/10/2021 17:46

And get your flu vaccine.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 17:46

@trappedsincesundaymorn Not to mention the posters on here last year who were all "suck it up Its only for ONE Christmas. NCed since i will bet!!!

Mindareno · 20/10/2021 17:46

@Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet

To be fair, we were told that vaccines were the way out of this. There isn't really any other measures now that are going to make a huge difference in the coming years are there? Everyone who is willing to have a vaccine has been vaccinated. This is it now!
I think this is the problem. I supported restrictions previously, even though I think they were absolutely awful (especially for the socio-economically vulnerable). I thought it was proportionate as a short term measure as part of a plan to suppress until there was a vaccine.

If we reimplement restrictions now, what’s the end game? What’s expected to change such that we don’t need them anymore? I don’t support restrictions in perpetuity, only as a holding measure until something happens to get us out of this. Now we’re vaccinated, I don’t know what that something would be.

I don't think I ever told anyone to "suck it up" as I don't like that expression.

However, I think we need to pull together to get through this and if it means being careful and a few more restrictions, so be it for many of us.

If people really can't cope with a mask, say, I hope they can get an exemption.

WouldBeGood · 20/10/2021 17:51

Masks make no difference. Scotland has masks and has had just as high rates

IndigoC · 20/10/2021 17:51

@Mindareno

I desperately don’t want to end up in another lockdown either. We have to ask ourselves why is Europe experiencing significantly lower numbers than us right now? The answer is that most countries there are taking a middle way — continuing masking, implementing vaccine passports, continuing to encourage some WFH.

The vaccines should not be put under this much pressures, they should not be a solo defence.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 20/10/2021 17:51

Great news about the new antivirals. Also that SJ suggested they may be used prophylactically.

IndigoC · 20/10/2021 17:52

That’s just not true.

Tired of plonkers moaning about not being able to get the booster (although at least they want the vaccine) when they are not yet six months past second dose.

It does seem depressing today, what with escalating cases and a new variant thrown in for good measure Sad

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 17:54

@2389Champ Ive read A State of Fear. The threads about it got deleted. Someone came on the thread and smeared everyone by calling them far right. When the threads disappeared so did the poster.

Just heard Savid basically say that the high flu numbers now have been caused by the precautions we took to contain Covid.
