This woman is driving me nuts. Eh, eh, eh. Spit it out woman.

Againstmachine · 20/10/2021 17:31

I wish Chris Whitty or Patrick Vallance were there, I'd feel more reassured then, particularly Chris Whitty

No trust in those two, liars and present false stats.

VickyEadieofThigh · 20/10/2021 17:31

@Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet

I'm eligible for my booster but can't book it yet because not enough time has passed since my 2nd jab.
I read today that those eligible are finding it hard to find a place to get their booster - there's a capacity issue.
XenoBitch · 20/10/2021 17:32

@MarshaBradyo

What is the point of this press conference?

Get the booster

And pressure your unvaccinated mates into getting the jab.
IndigoC · 20/10/2021 17:33

Everybody should think about wearing face masks in public enclosed areas. Yet no Tory wears one in Parliament. Do as I say not as I do. 🤣

(Theresa May and Gove excepting).

VickyEadieofThigh · 20/10/2021 17:33

but not banning UK residents who are fully vaccinated or present a negative PCR - so a bit pointless, really.

BBC reports FLIGHTS to be banned - good luck getting there with no flights...

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 20/10/2021 17:34

@XenoBitch

You're right. He did say one good thing during this press conference.

2389Champ · 20/10/2021 17:34

“Most people who have been vaccinated or have already had covid may have a sense of invincibility about them and just aren’t bothered anymore.“

Can you blame them? We were told the vaccines were the way out and the key to normality - no doubt to ensure uptake. We were assured it had been fully researched, despite the speed of its production. No expert ever mentioned the fact that despite having the jab, you could still catch Covid and give it to others. Those facts were slowly and stealthy stirred into the mix out of nowhere.

Againstmachine · 20/10/2021 17:35

Some new drugs I wonder whos pockets are getting lined this time, can't be Matt he's gone.

I see most of the journos at the conference are not wearing masks.

Here's a thought: why not reinforce your "guidance", Mr Javid, by telling the journos they must wear a mask at the presser?

DementedPanda · 20/10/2021 17:35

So boosters for everyone at 6 months after 2nd dose?

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 20/10/2021 17:35

We always knew you could still catch it. Always.
toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 17:36

If the drugs work I don't care if someone's pockets get lined

MapleMay11 · 20/10/2021 17:37

This simply isn't true. It was always known from the beginning that none of the vaccines blocked transmission or reduced the risk of infection completely.

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2021 17:38

@DementedPanda

So boosters for everyone at 6 months after 2nd dose?
Not everyone I don’t think

22m? I heard at one point

toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 17:38

It was said very early on they didn't know whether the vaccine would reduce transmission

IndigoC · 20/10/2021 17:38

@DementedPanda

No, that’s not what I heard. Just eligible groups. Bad for 40-49s as the slide they showed had them being hospitalised currently at very similar rates to 50-59s.
fashionSOS · 20/10/2021 17:38

@berlinbabylon

Before Covid, did we see those undergoing immunotherapy such as chemo demanding that that the whole world accommodated their needs? Patients like this were advised and aware exposure to even a common cold could be life threatening, so they made their own choices

People did on MN - anyone who took a child with chicken pox outside for a walk in an empty park was vilified. Rather than expecting women who were TTC to make sure they were vaccinated against chicken pox first if they didn't think they'd had it...

However, I do think mask wearing in crowded indoor spaces like trains and shops is common sense and will help prevent people get colds which they then need to get tests for "because covid presents like a cold in vaccinated people".

Passing on and catching colds used to be seen as acceptable. Now nobody wants to do that, because when people have a cold, they panic that it's Covid.

Re chemo - given how many people we have failed with cancer treatment over the last year, I think we should be exceptionally considerate, yes. I'm devastated by how many people in my inner circle have been diagnosed lately, and how many are not expected to survive. The strain on the NHS has led to avoidable deaths.

toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 17:39

Didn't they say boosters for everyone over 50 and eligible groups, so the original 9 groups

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 20/10/2021 17:39

The boosters are still only for over-fifties and those with specific underlying health conditions.

At the moment.

Apart from anything else, people not in those groups would still be less than six months away from their last jab.

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/10/2021 17:39

My husband and I #Queenie, we cannot have booster til next month as 6 months since 2nd jab elapses then.
Flu jab - booked for Nov and shuffled back to Dec as there are supply issues or something?

So there we are then. The govt doesn't believe the pressures on the NHS are insurmountable. Hmmm.

IndigoC · 20/10/2021 17:39

I see most of the journos at the conference are not wearing masks.

Yes, I noticed that too. 3 or 4 wearing them and that’s it.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 17:40

I attempted to get my second vaccine and was refused it because i was told they cant mix them. My first was Moderna and the same clinic are now doing Pfizer. I was told "oh you can get it done here (mentions town an hours bus ride away and our bus services are unreliable and frequently dont turn up. or £35 taxi ride away £35 ONE WAY) Sorry Cant afford it They cant have it all.

How many people have experienced logistical problems like this. Instead of these problems being tackled they would rather scream "anti vaxers"

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 20/10/2021 17:40

To be fair, we were told that vaccines were the way out of this. There isn't really any other measures now that are going to make a huge difference in the coming years are there? Everyone who is willing to have a vaccine has been vaccinated. This is it now!

Wingingthis · 20/10/2021 17:40

I was at a pead appt for my daughter last week & the consultant said eventually all age groups will have a booster. Unsure how he would know this but 🤷🏼‍♀️
