How will ever get out of this?

Cases are continually rising, vaccines don’t stop transmission, vaccines don’t prevent infection.

You can be infected with Covid more than once and by the looks of things we will need a vaccine every 6 months.

How will we ever move on from how things are now? How can things change?

It’s absolutely rife in my area and in my DS school.

Are we now just expected to accept these levels of infection, hospitalisations and death?

There are 130 Covid patients in our local hospital which isn’t far off the number of the second wave!

@MarshaBradyo

Why do you want a lockdown so badly Princess?
Remind me who keeps putting you into lockdown @MarshaBradyo?

Is it me?

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:23

No idea!

But out of pretty much everyone on here you seem the most keen.

Overthebow · 19/10/2021 19:25

You can't expect society to live under restrictions forever the economy needs to move on, people need to be able to go out, and to restrict healthy people from doing that because you can't isnt acceptable to most

Exactly this

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 19:25

Why do you want a lockdown This must be the most stupid line of them all.

Yep that's right, the people who would like basic control measures in schools so they stay open more reliably are the ones who want lockdowns.

Sick of the stupidity and the gaslighting, what is happening in Britain with regards to Covid currently is absolute bullshit.

Calm down.

I can’t ask another poster a question

Step away if you get so angry about it.

MareofBeasttown · 19/10/2021 19:26

I don't want a lockdown. But I wish we could be more cautious heading into winter. I went to the theatre the other day. Tickets said only double vaxxed people with masks. It turned out to be no checking of vaccination and no masks. Surely people can live with that level of restriction heading into winter? The rest of the world does.

I guess I have a choice not to go to the theatre. However, I have no choice but to take the Tube and at least 50% are unmasked.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:26

Can -

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/10/2021 19:27

Didn’t the Spanish Flu end as it became so deadly it killed its host before they had chance to pass it on? The weaker strains are still around.

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 19:27

You can't expect society to live under restrictions forever the economy needs to move on

This is also absolutely stupid, the UK economy is the worst affected in the G7, the nations controlling Covid most successfully have stronger economic performance.

littlestmunchkin · 19/10/2021 19:28

@MareofBeasttown which theatre was that? Isn't west end all unmasked and LF for unvaccinated now ?

Bookridden · 19/10/2021 19:31

As someone recovering from being seriously ill with Covid, I am torn. I have first hand experience about how awful it is, and am keener than ever to get teenagers vaxxed (as they appear to be driving the increase). Otoh, we can't close down society and the economy forever.

Here's the questions I think we need to answer.

1.I mean, would increased masks, and better social distancing be the answer?

  1. Why does herd immunity seem so elusive?
  2. What EXACTLY are other countries doing differently?
  3. Why hasn't Covid mutated to become a bit more harmless?
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/10/2021 19:32

I think herd immunity doesn’t exist. I know of someone who’s had it 3 times.

Badbadbunny · 19/10/2021 19:33

@Againstmachine

Ah,so it’s the people with the underlying conditions who need to stay away from everyone, limit their contacts, just generally live something of a non-life that everyone else can get on with? How about sensible precautions taken across society by everyone so that everyone can get on with living a decent life?

Pretty much yes, if your immunity is compromised it's upto you to help protect yourself.

You can't expect society to live under restrictions forever the economy needs to move on, people need to be able to go out, and to restrict healthy people from doing that because you can't isnt acceptable to most.

The trouble is the most vulnerable CAN'T keep themselves away from everyone else. They need to go to GP surgeries, hospitals, etc at the very least, where infection control, social distancing, etc., is pretty lax to say the least, especially in hospitals as they can't lock the doors to keep people out.

My OH has cancer and needs 2 or 3 blood tests every month, plus infusion appointments, plus occasional scans/x-rays, etc. Every appointment is a risk, especially when they're running late and the waiting areas become crowded as they're not ventilated. Nurses not changing their gloves nor wiping down equipment between patients doesn't help either.

So, unless the nurses/doctors are happy to come to our house to do the tests/treatments, OH can't keep away from risky environments.

MareofBeasttown · 19/10/2021 19:34

@littlestmunchkin It was London County Hall. They were not checking for LFT results either, as far as I could see. They certainly didn't ask me for any proof of anything.

Moonface123 · 19/10/2021 19:34

Adapt, like our ancestors had to.

It is.

But it's also a useful indicator.

The more that bad faith, nonsense question is asked on here, the closer we are to having one.

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 19:35

  1. What EXACTLY are other countries doing differently?
  • Masks
  • Social distancing
  • Testing on a wider range of symptoms
  • Vaccinating faster and to younger age groups
  • Not sending tests to unapproved labs Hmm
  • Not giving vital contracts to friends and relatives
  • Border controls

Generally not being stupid.

Mellowfruitfulnessy · 19/10/2021 19:36

My dc school have said they are at the “maximum number” of supply teachers - DC in exam year and has no proper teaching. 50% of students are currently off with Covid.

But yeah just “live your life”.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:37

The more that bad faith, nonsense question is asked on here, the closer we are to having one.

Why?

Do you want to be closer to having one? It’s odd

Most people really don’t want it. You stand out somewhat.

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 19:40

Always this stupid idea that people who would like lower levels of covid are the ones who want lockdown. It is the wankers who won't control it that cause us to need drastic measures.

Europe is further from lockdown than we are.

All sensible people want to avoid lockdown - which means keeping covid under reasonable control.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:40

Lol I can’t help how you come across.

With your useful indicators of imminent lockdowns

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:42

Most people would think about other things as indicators but no, a question on mn is apparently the clue.

I’d say that shows an appetite for ridiculous indicators. No idea why anyone would seek that out though.

siestalady · 19/10/2021 19:44

@MarshaBradyo

Lol I can’t help how you come across.

I thought we were being locked down in August? What was it, 100k cases a day that was predicted?? Grin
Bordois · 19/10/2021 19:45

Once we're in an incontrovertible countdown to the next lockdown the angry stage kicks in.

Is this your 4th or 5th prediction of the next lockdown happening soon?
