How will ever get out of this?

Cases are continually rising, vaccines don’t stop transmission, vaccines don’t prevent infection.

You can be infected with Covid more than once and by the looks of things we will need a vaccine every 6 months.

How will we ever move on from how things are now? How can things change?

It’s absolutely rife in my area and in my DS school.

Are we now just expected to accept these levels of infection, hospitalisations and death?

There are 130 Covid patients in our local hospital which isn’t far off the number of the second wave!

And businesses closing too of course

If you look at polls Cons dip massively in lockdowns

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 18:21

Europe don't need to close schools BECAUSE THEY ARE CONTROLLING COVID.

The UK is the only place in Europe where kids are not in fucking school.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 18:23

It doesn’t matter. And shouting is always good.

The amount of times people have said just do this, for a bit longer

Yeh yeh people say. Fuck that they think

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 18:26

Fuck that they think if they are thick.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 18:27

Oh yes the ‘thick’ thing.

Yes that’s it, superior person.

No clue about behaviour.

drury7thedition · 19/10/2021 18:32

I think that the winter is looking very bleak. Public health have ordered face masks back in school today in my county after the rate of infection is more than double the national average. Schools are already sending year groups home.

The NHS isn't coping, a friend was admitted into hospital last week, asthmatic but otherwise well and healthy, in work, living life - she spent 24 hours in an A&E side ward because there weren't any beds and deteriorated/passed away three days later.

COVID is here to stay. The NHS is broken.

I think that a lot of people are being wilfully stupid. I am sure some can not help it.

Covid will not just go away. If someone thinks it will - they are either unintelligent or uneducated.

I'm sick of having to be all nicey-nice to people who can't understand GCSE level science tbh. If their feelings are hurt - sorry but that's their problem.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 18:39

Covid will not just go away.

And I’m sick of telling people no no one thinks it will go away.

It’s not what is driving the behaviour.

You can insult people all you want but it’s dull and incorrect.

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 18:43

I don't care if people think it is dull.

I don't care if it offends people to call the situation in Britain stupid.

The mentality in many posts on this thread is simply stupidity. It absolutely is correct to call it that.

Iggly · 19/10/2021 18:44

Did people used to say polio wouldn’t go away?

Good on you.

I still think your assumptions are wrong.

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2021 18:46

Did people used to say polio wouldn’t go away?

And it didn't without sterilising vaccines

XenoBitch · 19/10/2021 18:46

How did the Spanish Flu end?

Overthebow · 19/10/2021 18:48

@Getawaywithit

Lovely, *@Overthebow*. What a team player eh.. I sincerely hope you and yours remain remain healthy and never have to worry about these things.

There has been thread after thread about mental health, lack of contact etc etc and how awfully is. Try facing that now for a lifetime with society at large not prepared to do the minimum to support. Very distressing,

I’m sure it a big worry for those affected, I don’t envy them. But in reality you can’t expect everyone else to curtail their lives forever. Because that’s what we’re talking about here, covid isn’t going to go away. Unfortunately its get back to normal or take your own precautions, and that’s how it should be really, and how it’s always been for every other illness.

And seeing as the majority have now had the vaccine, and those most at risk are getting boosters, the risk is far less for lots than it was before. The vulnerable people I know are all back to normal too now that they’ve been jabbed.

Overthebow · 19/10/2021 18:49

@XenoBitch

How did the Spanish Flu end?
It didn’t, we still have strains of it going round. We just got on with life as normal over time, like we are doing now with covid.
Overthebow · 19/10/2021 18:50

And those who are particularly vulnerable to flu take their own precautions during flu season.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 18:50

Exactly the virus will be around but the pandemic state of emergency or whatever you call it will end

rrhuth · 19/10/2021 18:59

I thought the pandemic state of emergency had already ended, if it hasn't why are we all pretending everything is normal?

Mycatispretty · 19/10/2021 19:08

You can’t argue with stupid

Mycatispretty · 19/10/2021 19:09

Everything is normal if you wish to live in denial

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:10

@Mycatispretty

You can’t argue with stupid
This must be the most self reflective phrase.

Like a mirror to the person who says it.

I agree with you 100%.
PrincessNutNuts · 19/10/2021 19:17

@Mycatispretty

The declarations of denial ramp up on here when it becomes abundantly clear to all that things are going south again.

Once we're in an incontrovertible countdown to the next lockdown the angry stage kicks in.

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2021 19:18

Why do you want a lockdown so badly Princess?

Againstmachine · 19/10/2021 19:19

Ah,so it’s the people with the underlying conditions who need to stay away from everyone, limit their contacts, just generally live something of a non-life that everyone else can get on with? How about sensible precautions taken across society by everyone so that everyone can get on with living a decent life?

Pretty much yes, if your immunity is compromised it's upto you to help protect yourself.

You can't expect society to live under restrictions forever the economy needs to move on, people need to be able to go out, and to restrict healthy people from doing that because you can't isnt acceptable to most.
