Double jabbed but so ill

I am double jabbed, early 40's, reasonably healthy. I have just caught covid and feel horrendous. Every bone aches, chest hurst, migraines, hot sweats then freezing cold, runny nose, cough, loss of taste and smell. I am bed bound.
I rang in sick to work and they seemed peeved that I'm off sick on not wfh on laptop. I can't possibly look at a screen or think.
Work seem to think that most covid positive person are asymptomatic.
Is this right?
Am I the only one with symptoms after 2 jabs?
I honestly don't know why the vaccine hasn't worked.

Who else has contracted covid after vaccination and how bad did you get it?

I'm double jabbed with Pfizer. I'm on day 8, still feeling quite rough. All my symptoms have been those of a bad cold (although no fever and only slight cough). I've definitely felt worse with other things like flu and tonsillitis, BUT it seems to be taking me longer to bounce back than with those. Still very much at the pottering stage and only able to do the odd hour of computer work. I'm a HCW and there's absolutely no way I'd be well enough to go back to clinical work yet.

gogginsmrs · 30/09/2021 18:21

Get well very soon op.

I’m Double jabbed with AZ. Ended up in hospital twice- first with pneumonia and second with a Pulmonary embolism. I’m 41. The general consensus whilst I was being treated was Pfizer seems a little more effective than AZ. However I saw two unvaxxed patients whilst in there and they were both sent to icu. So I think the jabs are stopping very severe disease

Silkieschickens · 30/09/2021 18:35

Double jabbed x 2 here with AZ (last in May and July) and both very ill with it - DH was ill for 4 weeks first most of which he spent in bed, mid 50s, he was officially negative but only plausible source if it and normally never ill. I am on third week of it, still in bed and incredibly dizzy half the day, nausea, upset stomach, very weak, breathless at times, oximeter is often at 93 or 94 when lying down, taste only just returning, smell starting to come back, pulse is very low getting down to 48.

Daughter also had same for 2 weeks, she's obviously unvaccinated as only 15. Pretty nasty here. Hard to say what effect vaccines had as didn't have it pre vaccines though they seem to have helped some people and I certainly had a response to mine.

Double jabbed with AZ, late 40’s and fit. Tested positive 3 weeks ago after feeling rough for 4 days. 10 days in bed followed feeling the most ill I ever remember feeling.
Fever, terrible aches everywhere, nauseous, diarrhoea, banging headache. No taste or smell. Only thing I didn’t have was a proper cold!
The week after I had no energy, had to lie down every time I had done a few jobs indoors or been for a 15 minute walk.
It’s strange how it affects people so differently 🤷‍♀️

Frogsandsheep · 30/09/2021 18:48

@Jessica60
I’ve had to have 3 weeks off and possibly need another week or 2. I had nearly every symptom and was bed ridden for over a week. I’m still very breathless, coughing and dizzy and really fed up.
Same as you - double vaccinated and early 40s.
It’s making me really down.

I’m sorry you’ve been so poorly too Flowers

I worry for the winter I really do.. I'm hearing of more and more double jabbed people catching it ..I'm unfortunately one of them right now . Feel pretty rough tbh

middleager · 30/09/2021 19:14

I'm 48 and double vaccinated.
I had Covid last week (caught off DS from school,) lots of symptoms, in bed for a week.
I felt rough, not as bad as when I had the flu once, but really rough.

I had sweats, chills 39.6 temp, cough, dizziness, tiredness, blocked nose, struggling to breathe, loss of smell/taste, phlegm.
I couldn't work and on Day 11 today, I just had energy to pick a child up from school in the car.

I have a slightly runny nose still. It runs with blood. Never had a nose bleed in my life.

ChillingReign · 30/09/2021 19:17

I haven't had my results through but I'm double jabbed and I would be very surprised if my result isn't positive. I caught it form ds who caught it from school.

I'm feeling shocking right now and really miserable

middleager · 30/09/2021 19:24

OP, HR were dismissive about Covid when another colleague said she felt rough was off for a PCR (negative). HR advisor said she too felt under the weather with something, but it was just a bug. It was on a group chat.

I work from home but made it very clear on day 1/2 when I felt like I'd been hit by a bus that I was self certifying for the week. I am too old to care what they think of that. There is a culture of presenteeism and I haven't had a day off for a long time. Even in the office, I averaged 1 day sick per year, so they know I don't take the piss, however, this will be frowned on. I don't care!

SingingSands · 30/09/2021 19:24

I was the same last weekend - double jabbed, early forties and very fit (running and Les Mills).

I slept from Thursday - Monday, didn't eat, just drank water. My symptoms were like yours and I could not look at a screen or a page at all, my eyes were so sore I had to have the bedroom in complete darkness.

My work were excellent - I informed them I would be self certifying and off all week to recover and they were great. I didn't log on once. I was weak as a kitten until Friday when I started perking up.

Still can't smell or taste anything, still coughing and get tired easily, but I've been logged on working from home this week.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and don't listen to their judging! I wonder if I'd have been worse without the vaccine, possibly in hospital, but I guess I'll never know.

DrWankincense · 30/09/2021 19:39

@SingingSands.
I do wonder that too. Or as a PP said is it some vax dodging variant? Or the vaccine didn't work for me (although i was ill for a week with my 1st jab, fine with 2nd). No clue.

Tiredmum100 · 30/09/2021 19:44

Today alone I know of two double vaccinated people being admitted to hospital with covid. Hope you feel better soon.

Mumzoo5070 · 30/09/2021 19:49

Currently bedbound and feeling scarily unwell. Have you all been doing the antibody test sent by Test and Trace to people who test positive? I'm interested to see the level of antibodies I had before this infection and the new level 3 weeks after catching it.

Loveacuppa · 30/09/2021 19:53

@mumzoo5070, sorry to disappoint you but the antibody test results tell you nothing. After the first test mine said "it's likely you have had a Covid vaccine in the past 6mths" and after the second test it said "it's likely you've had Covid 19 in the last 6mths". So disappointing, I was expecting a "omg you have super immunity levels" at the least.

Faircastle · 30/09/2021 20:00

I'm on day 9 of Covid, having had both doses of the vaccine earlier this year. I've been able to manage the symptoms at home but it has not been pleasant. Constant headache, mild fever, aching all over, shooting pains in arms and legs, cough, breathlessless, feeling shaky and weak and easily exhausted.

I have managed to do some work from home (answering urgent email etc) but it has been a struggle, especially in the first few days when looking at a screen for any length of time exacerbated the headache and I couldn't think properly.

Mumzoo5070 · 30/09/2021 20:06

Loveacuppa nooooo! I wanted a number. Gutted.

gogginsmrs · 30/09/2021 20:12

@Mumzoo5070 I wanted numbers too!!!

DonnaDonna01 · 30/09/2021 20:14

A guy from work (don’t know him personally) died a couple of weeks ago, 49 double jabbed and no health conditions. There’s no guarantees with the vaccine.

LucyGrey · 30/09/2021 20:15

I know two people who have died since having the vaccine. Aged 41 and 42. I'm
Incandescent with rage. But most people toe the party line so.....

toffeeshock · 30/09/2021 20:22

Those who had AZ and who had bad side effects after the first dose: if you have since caught covid, how ill were you?

I suffered for days after my 1st AZ vaccination - headache, chills, fever, extreme fatigue etc and I’m wondering if there’s a difference in how severe covid is for people who had similar side effects vs those who had none (like my DH, who had no side effects at all).

ChillingReign · 30/09/2021 20:23

@LucyGrey when you say 'the party line' do you mean that the vax works even though it doesn't?

Sweettea1 · 30/09/2021 20:25

Pfizer here double jabbed tested positive last tue was fine first couple of days just alot off sneezing and blocked nose.
Friday I got worse still not as bad as you just felt like I was sweating buckets and had the worst headache paracetamol or ibuprofen never helped at all. Then woke up on Monday feeling absolutely fine again thank god.

middleager · 30/09/2021 20:27

I had no side effects after both AZ doses. Caught covid off my son. I was rough with it.

DH had full blown effects after his 1st jab, very ill, ok with 2nd. He didn't catch Covid off our son.

Sweettea1 · 30/09/2021 20:28

O and I've lost my smell only realised when I was roasting a chicken yesterday and couldn't smell it.

TheUnbearable · 30/09/2021 20:28

I had covid at the start of lockdown so obviously no vaccine. I was so unwell I couldn’t even watch tv. I had to crawl on my hands and knees to the loo for days. Could hardly eat anything and lost about a stone in two weeks.
