Double jabbed but so ill

I am double jabbed, early 40's, reasonably healthy. I have just caught covid and feel horrendous. Every bone aches, chest hurst, migraines, hot sweats then freezing cold, runny nose, cough, loss of taste and smell. I am bed bound.
I rang in sick to work and they seemed peeved that I'm off sick on not wfh on laptop. I can't possibly look at a screen or think.
Work seem to think that most covid positive person are asymptomatic.
Is this right?
Am I the only one with symptoms after 2 jabs?
I honestly don't know why the vaccine hasn't worked.

Who else has contracted covid after vaccination and how bad did you get it?

Thanks @middleager that’s interesting. I’d be interested to see if others have found similar.

Silkieschickens · 30/09/2021 20:36

Toffee I am late 40s very bad side effects from AZ esp first one, have covid now and very ill with it, on third week, if DH wasnt here I would have gone to hospital. Not life threatening or ICU ill but in bed every day on day 16th, oxygen readings are 93 or 94, pulse very low, gastric symptoms every day, room spinning half the day every day, really bad cold, both ears blocked, no taste, no smell, so not great though no idea how typical that is. Normally fine with vaccines. I do have ME and asthma / allergies and small vessel disease of brain but was just put in normal category by NHS. DH, was ill for 4 weeks but no breathing issues and no dizziness, and he was a more typical 24 hours ill after AZ. No idea if vaccine failed for us or we would have been more severe. We probably got it on holiday in UK so difficult to know exact source or type. DH is getting better now so it will end but pretty grim before then for us and even super healthy and fit DD was floored for 2 weeks, not vaccinated as 15. Though DS escaped and others with no or mild symptoms. Think its quite hard to predict, age seems to be a factor.

It's a problem with WFH that employers still expect people to work when they are ill.

Pre-Covid they expected you in the office when you were ill, so things are improving.

DrWankincense · 30/09/2021 20:54

@toffeeshock
I was ill for a week with my 1st vax.
Dizziness, aches, headaches, fever etc.
Have been quite unwell with covid.

toffeeshock · 30/09/2021 20:57

I’m sorry to hear you’re so poorly @Silkieschickens Flowers

And you too, OP. I hope everyone suffering with it feels better soon Flowers

It really is so unpredictable.

peachpearplum01 · 30/09/2021 21:07

I had it in august after being double vaxxed and get horrendous. Tried to work the first few days then was off for about a week. Similar symptoms to you but no cough or fever. Lots of muscle pain, loss of smell and just completely wiped out. A month later I’ve only just started to feel better from all the physical symptoms although still tired and have brain fog..

1happyhippie · 30/09/2021 21:28

I know of a couple a people who are fully vaccinated and have recently caught covid and seem to really suffer.
All of them are in their 40s.
One was hospitalised.
Could it be the length of time since their last vaccine?
One of them was a care worker so was vaccinated right in the beginning of the roll out.

Jessica60 · 30/09/2021 21:29

I just hope the HR depts and supervisors in all workplaces start realising that people actually still do get ill with covid-19. I think as this is the start of the 4th wave they are a bit clueless (as we all are with this unpredictable virus) as to how it is going to effect staff.

Does anyone know who collects the data on persons who have tested positive and their symptoms? Surely the researchers would like to know how effective certain vaccines are and when people last had their jab and symptoms suffered.

I'm double jabbed, ended up having a week off work after testing positive for Covid. Same symptoms as yourself. I usually wfh but there was no way I'd have been able to do anything.

I'm just glad I am jabbed, I hate to think how bad I'd have felt otherwise

CatAlice · 30/09/2021 21:35

@toffeeshock

Those who had AZ and who had bad side effects after the first dose: if you have since caught covid, how ill were you?

I suffered for days after my 1st AZ vaccination - headache, chills, fever, extreme fatigue etc and I’m wondering if there’s a difference in how severe covid is for people who had similar side effects vs those who had none (like my DH, who had no side effects at all).

Double jabbed with AZ, zero side effects. Four months later in August I was hospitalised with covid. DH also AZ and no side effects didn't even catch it off me.
Reallybadidea · 30/09/2021 21:38

I was asked when I was vaccinated when I requested my pcr test. I'm also in a research study with regular PCR and antibody tests. They've already been in touch asking about my symptoms.

bigbaggyeyes · 30/09/2021 21:42

I've been double jabbed with AZ, mild side effects on the first dose, none in the second, in bed for a week with Covid

Stasiland · 30/09/2021 22:05

I caught covid end of november, was pretty ill first 6 weeks, sats fine but hr shooting up if I walked around and chest v tight. Ended up with long covid and several relapses. After first AZ jab ended up in A/E with some weird cardiac rhythm issue (IST) so was very dubious about a second one. Did have it and was fine.
Funnily enough ds2 has had it twice since and I so far haven't caught it.

AlexaShutUp · 30/09/2021 22:10

This thread is a bit alarming. Some of dd's friends have covid at the minute and we are just waiting for when she catches it. Sad

savagebaggagemaster · 30/09/2021 22:11

Dh and I, nearly 50, both double jabbed and both teachers, so inevitable that we caught it. Ten days post positive and we're both still off ill. Exhaustion and coughing.
Look after yourself until you feel a lot better and even then, still take it easy.

ballsdeep · 30/09/2021 22:12

I have the exact same symptoms. The vaccine has worked
Imagine how bad it would be without it! Get well soon

Cruiser11 · 30/09/2021 22:14

I’m feeling really down about it, I was just beginning to feel that we are coming out of 18 months if hell and then bam my DH and I both get it. Then I feel ungrateful as at least I’ve had the jabs, then I just feel sorry for myself as was really ill after the first jab and now ill with COVID. I
Think because I was so bad last night and couldn’t sleep and was so feverish I’m all over the place today.

middleager · 30/09/2021 22:17

@ballsdeep

But we won't ever know. I don't want to put the theory to the test, of course.
blameitonthecaffeine · 30/09/2021 22:18

I had it after being double jabbed with AZ.

I was almost asymptomatic. Very slight cold, that's all. I worked from home as much as possible but I'm a dance teacher so couldn't do everything I needed to. It was so frustrating being stuck at home but sounds like I was extremely lucky. I thought most healthy under 50s had the same experience if double jabbed. Obviously not.

I did have hideous side effects from both jabs though. Not sure if bad jab reaction has any link to mild covid case or not.

Chloemol · 30/09/2021 22:30

The vaccine has worked. They have always said it won’t stop you catching it, you just get less symptoms so won’t require hospital

Although obviously some still require hospital

So the jabbed has stopped you getting such bad symptoms you need to go to hospital

Work are being idiots.

Retrievemysanity · 30/09/2021 22:30

I had my second AZ in July, no bad side effects from the jab. Just had covid and oh my life, it’s been terrible, fatigue has been awful, bad headache and stuffy nose and head, chills, cough and loss of taste and smell. On the mend now but I do wonder whether or not the vaccine has had any effect to be honest. I turned 40 this year, not overweight, no health conditions etc so wouldn’t have expected to be any worse than this without the vaccine. DH has been similar but not quite as fatigued. DD aged 10, unvaccinated, had a headache and lost her sense of smell but is otherwise ok. DD aged 13 classed as vulnerable had her first Pfizer dose recently and has tested negative and no symptoms.

louisa92 · 30/09/2021 22:30

Just out of interest, why do people who felt pretty under the weather with it assume that they would've been worse without the jab? The vast, vast majority of people who caught it before vaccines were also under the weather (or else assymptomatic) but not needing hospital care.

frumpety · 30/09/2021 22:43

Which variant are you talking about @louisa92 ? The original one, Delta or the current one ?

louisa92 · 30/09/2021 22:53

I'm talking about COVID-19.
