We had email senior school saying they can how be vaccinated.
No permission slips
No actual date day this is too happen.
Primary emailed said they delaying Primary winter flu nasal sprays to focus on 12 to 15 covid jabs.

Its now Thursday 23rd September.
No idea if happening last wee final week September..suddenly we into October and the latter end of the month its half term.
It takes 21 days after the jab have immunity so maybe by November if we lucky.

I'm bit worries as my year 11 has important mocks in November.
She won't be 16 until Feb.
I can't take get get it or attend a vaccination centers I have to wait for school and local ccg to organise it.

So let's announce it.
Let's move very slowly infact too late to have any real affect.
Let's only give them one vaccine when nearly every child around the world gets 2.

Honestly whats the hold up whys it so hard.
I know parents with vunerable children had weeks trying after announcement to try and get the the vaccine.
100k kids off UK school last week.
I can't see how this school year can be normal and not disrupted.

I'm feeling fed up we just have to hope we don't have really bad flu season this winter as well as covid as our kids won't have any flu jab and teens only half jabbed too late we then well into winter.

Like PP, we are in Scotland and 12-15s have been able to attend drop-in mass vaccination clinics from Monday 20th. Both my two eligible kids have now had one Pfizer dose. My understanding is that, if they haven't attend a drop-in, they'll get a letter inviting them to a mass vacc ctr in a few weeks and then they will be going around the schools. This seems like a much better way of doing it! I feel for you all who want to get your child vaccinated and haven't been able to access a vaccination yet.

Ours is 29th September Covid vaccine and nasal spray.

Antsinyourpanta · 23/09/2021 19:15

We have a date for beginning of October.i think the whole school that is a) eligible in terms of age and b) has parental consent will be done on the same day. That will be most of year 8, 9, 10 , 11 and a small number of year 7.

herecomesthsun · 23/09/2021 19:17

@Mojoj

Kids don't need vaccinated.
but good they can if want Smile
MaureenMLove · 23/09/2021 19:37

@MintyCedric @actiongirl1978

You forgot the yr 8 HPV for girls and boys, yr 9 second jabs of the same, whole school flu sprays, yr 9 teenager boosters and the catch up sessions for all of them! Grin

I think I've got about 8 dates in the diary, before the Covid jabs are added at short notice!

I think it's fabulous and so important that vaccinations take place, but more than a weeks notice for this one, would be ever so helpful! Grin

tiddlysquat · 23/09/2021 19:45

Surely it would make more sense to have drop ins at vaccination centres, quite a few children won't be having them, then those of us who have kids that do want them can get on with it?

ReginaSpaghetti99 · 23/09/2021 19:45

We got a letter from school this week to say details are being worked out but plan is to give them by half term. Flu and covid will be given together. DS hates needles so I need to find out where they’ll be offering the jab at a vaccine centre - he won’t have it unless we’re there.

vintagenurse · 23/09/2021 19:45

I've got a job working as a nurse in schools imms team and I'm still waiting for a rota to be sent to me telling what days I'm working and what schools. Our local team have massively struggled to recruit extra nurses for this campaign.

SprogletsMum · 23/09/2021 19:46

My 12 year old is having his nasal flu spray and covid jab at school on Monday

DonnaDonna01 · 23/09/2021 19:49

“Why’s it so hard” Don’t suppose you have stopped to consider that last year the nasal flu was offered to Primary children and year 7 this year it has increased to include up to year 11. Plus the same nhs teams to roll out the COVID jab to 12-15 year olds. The NHS isn’t on its knees for nothing, some people just have no idea.

User5827372728 · 23/09/2021 19:51

The school I work in hasn’t heard anything about covid jabs, I’m south west

KateTheEighth · 23/09/2021 19:54

Early October here

Flu nasal and Covid jab on the same day

catzwhiskerz · 23/09/2021 19:56

First week of November, it’s a very small independent school so long probably not a priority but at the moment 15% of students and 25% of staff have confirmed covid!

Poppyliveshere · 23/09/2021 20:24

@FlyingFlamingo

Where are you? In Wales we have been told they will all be offered a vaccine by half term, our health board is offering them from 4th Oct in mass vacc centres rather than schools which seems like a much better way of doing it than putting pressure on the school nurses who are already having to vaccinate every single school aged child against flu at the same time.
Where I Wales are you? No sign of it here in Denbighshire
MintyCedric · 23/09/2021 20:28

@MaureenMLove

Yep...I'm not directly involved but our medical team at school are flat out as it is.

I'm in the office and absolutely dreading the influx of calls when the information goes out. We had one parent email to day under no circumstances was she giving consent before anyone us had even heard the announcement Hmm.

MintyCedric · 23/09/2021 20:33

@actiongirl1978

Commiserations...it's hideous isn't it?

I've been on sabbatical for a year as was caring for my elderly parents.. talk about picking my timing.

actiongirl1978 · 23/09/2021 20:38

@MintyCedric oh dear that's no good!

Yes we have reduced staff at the same time as all this happening, it's hideous.

Good luck for the next few weeks. Nearly half term...

BunsyGirl · 23/09/2021 20:40

4 October. Electronic consent form to complete.

MintyCedric · 23/09/2021 21:04

Good luck for the next few weeks. Nearly half term...

Counting the days...have stocked up on wine to get me there!

FlyingFlamingo · 23/09/2021 21:47

@Poppyliveshere we are south west, we’ve been told to wait for a letter. Welsh Government put out a statement saying they’ll all be offered one before half term.

FlyingFlamingo · 23/09/2021 21:50

We had this from dd2’s school, which is odd as it’s a primary school but useful as we’ve had nothing from dd1’s secondary school Grin

Anyone  got date for  12-15jabs?
boysarethebest · 23/09/2021 21:56

My sons had theirs today, year 11 and 9, at school in Croydon. They both feel tired and headachey but they are glad to have it done

BeautifulTulips · 23/09/2021 22:12

Tomorrow for mine!

liveforsummer · 23/09/2021 22:13

Ours have had their flu sprays. News said the other day that there would be appointment invites, booking and walk in options first before school vaccination starts. In Scotland so likely different to rest of UK

RagzReturnsRebooted · 23/09/2021 22:14

@frozendaisy

Next week for Covid jab.

Not heard about flu yet.

Same. I was surprised it was so fast.
