We had email senior school saying they can how be vaccinated.
No permission slips
No actual date day this is too happen.
Primary emailed said they delaying Primary winter flu nasal sprays to focus on 12 to 15 covid jabs.

Its now Thursday 23rd September.
No idea if happening last wee final week September..suddenly we into October and the latter end of the month its half term.
It takes 21 days after the jab have immunity so maybe by November if we lucky.

I'm bit worries as my year 11 has important mocks in November.
She won't be 16 until Feb.
I can't take get get it or attend a vaccination centers I have to wait for school and local ccg to organise it.

So let's announce it.
Let's move very slowly infact too late to have any real affect.
Let's only give them one vaccine when nearly every child around the world gets 2.

Honestly whats the hold up whys it so hard.
I know parents with vunerable children had weeks trying after announcement to try and get the the vaccine.
100k kids off UK school last week.
I can't see how this school year can be normal and not disrupted.

I'm feeling fed up we just have to hope we don't have really bad flu season this winter as well as covid as our kids won't have any flu jab and teens only half jabbed too late we then well into winter.

Yes we have, next Friday.

FlyingFlamingo · 23/09/2021 08:00

Where are you? In Wales we have been told they will all be offered a vaccine by half term, our health board is offering them from 4th Oct in mass vacc centres rather than schools which seems like a much better way of doing it than putting pressure on the school nurses who are already having to vaccinate every single school aged child against flu at the same time.

ColettesEarrings · 23/09/2021 08:01

From what I can see every relevant school in our LA had already been affirmed their date when the team are going in. One son's school is next Monday, one the Thursday. I'm sure more detail will be forthcoming for you soon, all counties have been tasked with planning a potential roll out for some time.

Not far from Wales Bristol so lots teenagers and lots of secondary schools. I wish I could take her to vaccination clinic not keen on it happening in schools themselves . There surely has be mop up clinic perhaps for kids actually off with covid that week? I can't see uptake being that good to be honest as email from school says if parents refuse child can overrule will get people's back up so any parent that doesn't want the jab maybe tempted jto keep their kids off that week.

Next week. Getting flu and covid at the same time

Madcats · 23/09/2021 08:39

DD's school have done all their flu jabs (Somerset £ secondary). We've heard nothing about Pfizer.

In the past fortnight, 1/4 of her year have either been ill with Covid or sent home to get a PCR and study online until results.

Djifunrsn · 23/09/2021 08:44

Next week all 12-15 offered Covid and nasal flu simultaneously in our school. My kids and all their friends are all having it.

PileOfBooks · 23/09/2021 08:45

Our school has told us provisionally around mid november for covid jab.

frozendaisy · 23/09/2021 08:45

Next week for Covid jab.

Not heard about flu yet.

PileOfBooks · 23/09/2021 08:46

I imagine the uptake will be pretty high tbh. Why wouldnt it be? Most kids have been sufferimg from restrictions or threat of covid for so long. Certainly I asked mine and she was keen!

3kidsandafewcats · 23/09/2021 08:47

School have not mentioned a thing about it.

SinoohXaenaHide · 23/09/2021 08:52

We aren't far from you OP and have had email theough saying the whole school is being vaccinated on a date the week after next. Followed up by an email saying that anyone who has had a positive covid test in the past 28 days won't be vaccinated and they have no idea when those kids will be vaccinated as they only have the one date for the vaccine team to be in. I suspect that will exclude a good quarter of the school as there are loads of positive tests at the moment.

NeedMoreTea · 23/09/2021 09:02

My kids secondary school is giving them today.

TheCatsPjammas · 23/09/2021 09:09

Have not heard anything. Cannot understand why I can’t access a drop in clinic for DD. Let those who are keen get their kids protected ASAP. It’s flipping Russian roulette.

Shieldingending · 23/09/2021 09:31

I’m not sure, originally we were told yesterday for the Covid one then in school my daughter was told it’s been delayed because people were saying it was rushed through! Haven’t had any further information from school yet about when it might be

blameitonthecaffeine · 23/09/2021 09:35

Flu and HPV on same day tomorrow.

Covid not till 2nd November.

Maybe because parents of girls are worried about fertility issues? Maybe because parents of boys are worried about the increased risk of heart issues?
ChequerBoard · 23/09/2021 10:02

Covid jab booked for Oct 11th but the Flu nasal vaccine will be very late - end of Nov, beginning of Dec.

Not sure why the flu ones are so late on?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/09/2021 10:04

I’ve not even heard from my daughter’s school.

Loads of news on Monday about kids having it on that day. And we’ve heard zilch🤷🏼‍♀️

Because the majority of children have already had the virus? The risk/benefit of the vaccine, which was too marginal for the JCVI to recommend, would be even more tilted away from the vaccine if they’re already immune. The vaccine won’t mean that they won’t have to take time off - a lot of vaccinated people are getting it anyway - it just reduces risk of serious illness but children are already at low risk anyway.
Bobbobbobbing · 23/09/2021 10:10

We're in the NE and mine are getting jabbed next Thursday. I only hope they can avoid catching covid before then given the rate it is flying through the school.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 23/09/2021 15:24

My children were supposed to be having theirs tomorrow. We’ve just had an email to say that it has been cancelled with no date for when it will take now place. Lack of staff to administer the vaccine, apparently.

Busygoingblah · 23/09/2021 15:30

I was in a school today where they were being done all day

Mamadothehump · 23/09/2021 15:38

Got email on Friday, having them next week.

BabyYouKnowMyHandsAreDirty · 23/09/2021 15:46

We haven’t heard anything yet. My children don’t want the vaccine so won’t be having it, but I want to know when they’re happening as I’m concerned about potential protestors outside the school.
