We had email senior school saying they can how be vaccinated.
No permission slips
No actual date day this is too happen.
Primary emailed said they delaying Primary winter flu nasal sprays to focus on 12 to 15 covid jabs.

Its now Thursday 23rd September.
No idea if happening last wee final week September..suddenly we into October and the latter end of the month its half term.
It takes 21 days after the jab have immunity so maybe by November if we lucky.

I'm bit worries as my year 11 has important mocks in November.
She won't be 16 until Feb.
I can't take get get it or attend a vaccination centers I have to wait for school and local ccg to organise it.

So let's announce it.
Let's move very slowly infact too late to have any real affect.
Let's only give them one vaccine when nearly every child around the world gets 2.

Honestly whats the hold up whys it so hard.
I know parents with vunerable children had weeks trying after announcement to try and get the the vaccine.
100k kids off UK school last week.
I can't see how this school year can be normal and not disrupted.

I'm feeling fed up we just have to hope we don't have really bad flu season this winter as well as covid as our kids won't have any flu jab and teens only half jabbed too late we then well into winter.

Ds(y8) has his Pfizer jab today.

Iwantthesummersun · 23/09/2021 22:23

It’s interesting that this may be the first time that vaccination seems easier in Scotland than anywhere else. Drop in clinics are definitely the way forward. Schools cannot take on another layer of admin.

HoobleDooble · 23/09/2021 22:29

It's been announced today that ours are on 15th October, don't know when the flu jabs are but I've sent the consent form in for both.

Sunshinealligator · 23/09/2021 22:42

Not heard a thing as of yet

Wigeon · 23/09/2021 23:01

8 October for DD’s secondary (Hertfordshire)

HandlebarLadyTash · 23/09/2021 23:25

29th sep, Huntingtonshire

Thanks so seems a total postcode lottery.

Update here freind at 1 local schools seems think by mid November.
Our senior school is saying they have decided to do special schools 1st before gradual role out to mainstream secondary.
I would imagine lots pupils at special school may fall into vunerable category so already be done.
Sirona health are subcontracted by ccg to do vaccination.
Primary flu nasal sprays being delayed.

Anyone else also wondering what's effects having flu and covid at same time.
Have they ever done that before?
Makes logistical sense but worry about side effects.

Wish they could be done at vax centres.

Tomorrow for my child

doorornottodoor · 23/09/2021 23:45

Drop in here Scotland. Did it yesterday.

londonmummy1966 · 24/09/2021 00:42

@Hellocatshome - yes in London - it isn't the case the children have to be vaccinated in school. We have had loads of kids in over the past week - as well as third doses - exhausting when you feel as if you are being mobbed its so busy but at least we're not bored Grin

shouldistop · 24/09/2021 07:35

Bit of a mistake delaying flu vaccinations given some experts are predicting a really bad flu season

erictries · 24/09/2021 07:58

Scotland. Walk in centre

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 24/09/2021 08:18

We’ve got a date for flu spray (beginning of November). For Covid school sent a letter saying “we’ll let you know as soon as we know”!

Ds2 has had the covid jab already (vulnerable) and should get flu jab from the doctors but they were really late with it last year so school might get there first.

3asAbird · 24/09/2021 12:50

Makes you wonder doesn't it.
November NHS BUSY time
Winter term is so busy and mostly indoors.
If they leave it too late to vaccinate plus takes time to take effect its not a very useful tool.
The kids who have covid within 28 days won't be able to be vaccinated.
If we have a flu season this year and there's less flu jabs and nasal spray could be double whammy pressure for the NHS.

Flu and covid end of October. Our school is being used as a vaccine centre for other non council own school students too I believe.

I agree. I'm really concerned as we have been told flu vaccines at our school will be 'end of Nov, beginning of Dec' so not much before the end of term for us.

Seems way too late.

sonsmum · 24/09/2021 13:35

My 14yr old his his first jab today. He also gets the flu jab every year and that appointment is booked for early nov (was to have been last week but there were supply issues)

shouldistop · 24/09/2021 14:13

@ChequerBoard they're at the start of December for ds1's primary school, way too late. Dh who is entitled to an nhs one hasn't heard anything. I've managed to get one through my work for October so at least me (and through bf ds2 will have some protection).
It's ridiculous that Im not actually entitled to one but will be getting it before others who are entitled.

Willyoujustbequiet · 24/09/2021 14:21

Next week

But my son's only 11 so I'm sure that shouldn't be allowed?

shouldistop · 24/09/2021 14:30

@Willyoujustbequiet an 11yo won't be allowed it.

User5827372728 · 24/09/2021 14:43

My school has booked us staff all in for flu jab next Monday!! A pharmacy team comes to school to do it

Both DH and I are eligible for NHS flu vaccine as we are over 50 and DH is CV. Can't book through my GP surgery though as they haven't organised their flu clinics yet as they don't know when vaccines will be delivered to them.

So I have booked us both in for NHS flu jabs via the Boots website in 3 weeks time.

kimlo · 24/09/2021 15:16

dd2 was today.

wishuponarainbow · 24/09/2021 21:59

@tiddlysquat that's what we can do in Scotland. Took my DD (13) to a local drop in centre after school on Wednesday, was surprised how empty it was!

autumnboys · 24/09/2021 22:04

Our secondary had them today. My nearly 16 yo was on his first day back after having Covid and my youngest isn’t 12 for a week, so neither of them had it. High uptake and they told us not everyone who wanted it would get it, as team only bring so many jabs. Hoping there will be second round & that my youngest will get one then.
