Antivaxxers targeting kids and schools with harassment and abuse

With the announcement that the covid vaccination will be offered to all 12-15 year olds in schools in the coming weeks, schools and children are increasingly been targeted by people who disagree with this decision.

We have: protesters approaching kids in the streets and forcing a school to lockdown (as well as reports on MN of protests outside schools and protesters coming on site to leaflet staff cars)
www.cheshire-live.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/anti-vax-protesters-descend-christleton-21558684

Headteachers reporting legal threats to their school if vaccinations go ahead www.bbc.com/news/education-58556614.amp

Hit piece in the Daily Mail claiming that kids are being vaccinated to protect teachers who have done nothing all year (as if the govt gives a shit about teachers and would lift a finger for them that wasn’t the middle one) www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-9990599/Why-jabbing-millions-kids-no-risk-Covid-simply-teachers-work.html

And I can only see it getting worse as the vaccinations get closer.

  1. this decision is nothing to do with schools who really would rather have nothing to do with it. Teachers won’t be vaccinating your kids, we’ve got our own jobs to do. We won’t be coercing them or jabbing them behind your back, we won’t know which kids get the jab or not. It is nothing to do with us, leave us out of it.

  2. Anyone targeting kids with banners, protests, intimidating them as they walk to school or approaching them on the street cannot claim to care about kids. They should stay the fuck away from them.

Having already warned my secondary DC of this happening at some schools. I have wondered if there are any actions that can be taken by schools to minimise the impact at the school gates.

For instance, warning alerts for parents so they can accompany children to the gate if any protestors appear.

The possibility for vaccinations to take place outside of school hours, with a parent in attendance.

There also has to be a guarantee of police attendance, free speech and freedom to demonstrate should never override child and school staff safety.

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2021 14:00

In my area , they were outside a lower school this morning and unfurled a huge banner near a secondary school. Lower school children are no older than 8.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/09/2021 14:42

Happening at local secondary schools here. Harassment of children like this should not be allowed.

Phial · 15/09/2021 14:50

Yep, nasty leaflets given out at my kids secondary school. I applaud all the teachers/headteachers working through all this, never not had my support.

0palescent · 15/09/2021 15:56

This is disgraceful. I get that there are strong feelings over this, but targeting schools is totally inappropriate and misjudged.

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2021 16:29

And a bit thick tbh , if the kids are 7....

User5827372728 · 15/09/2021 16:31

Amen to this.

User5827372728 · 15/09/2021 16:32

Oh blimey that DM article is a really horrible read

SunIsBehindGreySky · 15/09/2021 16:34

I have been following two anti vaxers, I have been waiting to see what happened when they both got sick, they did get covid recently and were hospitalised, they refused to accept they are wrong 🙄 and if they had the vaccine they wouldn't have scarred lungs and pnumonia etc.

If they don't want it themselves fair enough, leave others out of it.

Why do people do this kind of crap?
I appreciate everybody has different views about wether they want their kids to be vaccinated or not, but why would you be concerned about what other parents are doing?

SunIsBehindGreySky · 15/09/2021 18:09

The thing is they let other political groups into schools now others are targeting them.

I am relieved my children are adults, we can consent to be lab rats to their medical experiment for ourselves, it's another thing if you are pregnant or have children

If you thought something put children at risk of harm, would you really not be concerned about another parent doing that thing? Parents try to raise awareness about things they think are unsafe all the time.
Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2021 18:19

What other political groups? What on earth are you talking about?

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2021 18:21

Kowari, standing outside a school haranguing children is not raising awareness . I can assure you the men near us today are not parents of school age children. Come on now.

Appuskidu · 15/09/2021 18:22

Who are They?

Which political groups?

DismantledKing · 15/09/2021 18:24

Proper scum.

I was answering the question I quoted.

How can you tell if someone is a parent of a school age child? Are the men teenagers?

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2021 18:30

No. Other way, age wise. Plus, one is known to police.

Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2021 18:32

OK, so parents trying to raise awareness don't stand outside school gates without school knowing and giving permission . Literally has never happened in my long career. Until today.

To be fair, the injections don’t automatically stop people from getting scarred lungs etc. It hopefully prevents it but how would you actually know either way.
noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 18:41

I didn't think that we'd be able to find parents on Mumsnet defending strangers hanging around outside schools trying to talk to kids, but here we are.

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 15/09/2021 18:53

Do people seriously think it makes a difference if the strangers haranguing kids are parents themselves? Is that supposed to be a justification?

Bloody hell.

OP posts:
Time2getSerious · 15/09/2021 18:56

These people are misguided, they read a little and think they know it all. They want everyone in the same boat, so the outcome is the same for all. A little afraid to just go with their decision solo, in case it is the wrong one.

If roles were reversed and others were outside promoting vaccines to their kids, they would be up in arms over it.

It is a hard decision for most parents, but no one should push their choice on others. It’s what has been argued up to this point. The right to our own choices.
