Antivaxxers targeting kids and schools with harassment and abuse

With the announcement that the covid vaccination will be offered to all 12-15 year olds in schools in the coming weeks, schools and children are increasingly been targeted by people who disagree with this decision.

We have: protesters approaching kids in the streets and forcing a school to lockdown (as well as reports on MN of protests outside schools and protesters coming on site to leaflet staff cars)
www.cheshire-live.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/anti-vax-protesters-descend-christleton-21558684

Headteachers reporting legal threats to their school if vaccinations go ahead www.bbc.com/news/education-58556614.amp

Hit piece in the Daily Mail claiming that kids are being vaccinated to protect teachers who have done nothing all year (as if the govt gives a shit about teachers and would lift a finger for them that wasn’t the middle one) www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-9990599/Why-jabbing-millions-kids-no-risk-Covid-simply-teachers-work.html

And I can only see it getting worse as the vaccinations get closer.

  1. this decision is nothing to do with schools who really would rather have nothing to do with it. Teachers won’t be vaccinating your kids, we’ve got our own jobs to do. We won’t be coercing them or jabbing them behind your back, we won’t know which kids get the jab or not. It is nothing to do with us, leave us out of it.

  2. Anyone targeting kids with banners, protests, intimidating them as they walk to school or approaching them on the street cannot claim to care about kids. They should stay the fuck away from them.

@Cornettoninja

No no no. You don't understand their argument. Their argument isn't that they "know more" - quite the opposite. They're saying that it isn't being explained properly and that the so-called "experts" are bought-and-paid-for advertisers

You’re naive in the extreme if you think the people leading campaigns against vaccines and mitigations aren’t making money. There’s a lot of money in catering to the defiant and oppositional.

David Icke, Alex Jones et al have provided a clear blueprint in making money out of getting people to accept theories as fact regardless of evidence available.

That’s fair comment.

But naivety cuts both ways. There are parts to the government‘s covid response that are simply shambolic and other corners that are outright corrupt too.

There are parts to the government‘s covid response that are simply shambolic and other corners that are outright corrupt too.

That's because it gives the Tories physical pain to pay people to be out of work. They've had to shut the economy and implement a bunch of socialist measures to get through this.

There are more than a few people in that government who would prefer to have done nothing and just let loads more people die.

noblegiraffe · 22/09/2021 20:56

You think that antivaxxers are the only people that think that the government response to covid has been shambolic and corrupt? Confused

This happened at my sons school. He was told that if he had the vaccine, he was basically OK with Nazis and everything they stand for, in which case he should have his head kicked in. He's twelve. And these were men and women in their 30s and 40s

noblegiraffe · 22/09/2021 23:30

OMG that is terrible. Poor boy. Who are these awful people who think that's a reasonable thing to say to kids?

There was a protest outside a local primary school, I think this particular school was simply chosen as it’s the only one in the town on a. Main Road so there would be more publicity.

There was an interesting debate about it on the local Facebook page with views for both sides.
What was very evident was that some posters who clearly didn’t agree with the protest decided to go straight in with the name calling and making up what what written on the protest boards.

Even when somebody posted a picture of these boards showing that it was nothing like what these people claimed were written the name calling continued.

Whatever your views, I didn’t actually see the protest so couldn’t comment. The. name calling and making a lot of things up were definitely a lot more from one side.

noblegiraffe · 23/09/2021 08:43

So the protesters targeted a primary school (I think you are naive if you think it was just because it was on a main road…) and the issues with inaccuracy and shitty behaviour are on the other side because of some comments posted on Facebook?

I’ve seen too many photos of tiny school kids in masks (which has never been a requirement in the U.K.) to give them the benefit of the doubt on optics.

@Appuskidu

The thing is they let other political groups into schools now others are targeting them

Who are They?

Which political groups?

Hope Not Hate regularly go into schools to "teach" the kids.

Please don’t try and twist things. Maybe I am being naive as to thinking why the protest was on a main road. Maybe you should ask them why they chose where they did.

I spoke about a post about it on a local Facebook page. I didn’t comment on he post as as I never saw the actual protest.
I simply said what Was being written on the post, the name calling was very much from one side.
I never said anything about things written other than on that one Facebook post.

Again, please don’t try and twist what people have written.

Please report this to the police. It does not matter who is right in the vaccine/ no vaccine debate, surely no-one wants their child in this situation? These people are crazy! And I think all demonstrations in schools should be banned, as per now. Families and children can decide what to do on their own. They do not need this agro!
noblegiraffe · 23/09/2021 11:10

Sugar I’m not twisting your words, your post minimises what the protesters did (targeted a primary school and very young children for their protest; regardless of what road it’s on, that’s outrageously unacceptable).

The ‘other side’ posted some crap on Facebook.

It’s a false equivalence and yet you end with disapproval at the ‘more name calling’ from the people against the protest.

More protestors outside my school yesterday, with leaflets. Literally leaping out form behind bushes to accost students.

Piggywaspushed · 23/09/2021 15:28

Regardless of whether certain groups should be in schools in a formal role, this is still controlled and usually accompanied by a permission slip or at least an info letter (not always, to be fair).

This is not the same at all as protestors outside schools targeting unaccompanied children .Not at all.

Why do anti vaxxers care so much about who is getting the vaccine or not? why not live and let live?

how does me having been vaccinated twice affect them in any way? madness.

They think that they can 'catch something' from vaccinated people 🙄

And they want as many people to think like them as possible so that their selfish behaviour is normalised and they aren't ostracised.

An example of this was shown by an anti vaxxer snowflake on another thread 'oooh don't call me refusenik that's so meannnnnn'

TES article about the abuse and threats being received by schools and headteachers

www.tes.com/news/students-get-covid-vaccine-jab-away-schools-row-escalates

"The headteacher added the protesters had come on to the school site at the main entrance to the school, harassing visitors and parents.

"The final straw for me [and] why I called the police is that they'd been harassing some of our sixth-form students [outside school], particularly girls, telling them they wouldn't be able to have babies if they got vaccinated...they were pretty unpleasant," they said.

"There's a lot of miscommunication out there about how they were concerned parents – they were not parents of our students, they are a group that's been going around several schools – I think people need to know how unsavoury they are."

The protesters refused to leave the school site until the police were called, and would only do so once they had passed on anti-vaccination pamphlets and data.

"I am very worried about the vaccine rollout for 12- to 15-year-olds that's coming...we are actually considering hiring private security for those two days," the head said."

Fucksake. As if schools didn't have enough going on.

Just posted this on another thread - HART and links to other groups such as us4them on trying to stop teenagers getting vaccinated. twitter.com/threadreaderapp/status/1439599136651808773?s=21

powershowerforanhour · 26/09/2021 13:23

I know it's a long way from the situation below that came to mind, but haranguing children on their way into school should be totally off limits and there should be zero tolerance of this.
