Government have just U turned confirmed vaccine passports won’t be needed for large scale events in England.

Joystir59 · 12/09/2021 14:11

Why do we need vaccine passports when most adults have been double vaccinated?

MarshaBradyo · 12/09/2021 14:12

@sirfredfredgeorge

Terrible news. We had ways and time to reduce infection numbers and every single time we squander the chance

Every study on vaccine hesitancy shows coercion (and rewarding people too) for having a vaccine doesn't work, it actually makes people less likely to take it.

"If it was really in my interest to have this vaccine, why are you forcing me?" is the likely mechanism, the more you push the narrative that having a vaccine is something you need to be compensated for, the more people fight.

I agree it can be counter productive but do you think it has worked to get rates up in France

I don’t feel strongly other way but interested if it does have positive impact or not

Peteycat · 12/09/2021 14:14

It's brilliant news and hopefully the start of normality back on its way.

MarshaBradyo · 12/09/2021 14:14

Although maybe hesitancy was higher there, Italy and Germany etc so we don’t need it as much, which would be good

Well you can’t go round screaming that the government is going to to control us via vaccines and create a two tier society and a tracking system using vaccine passports if it turns out vaccine passports don’t actually become mandatory.

Those saying ‘we told you so’ will now have to have a rethink.

Peteycat · 12/09/2021 14:20

"Those saying ‘we told you so’ will now have to have a rethink"

No, they will be relieved that all their efforts to fight against this crap were not in vain.

noblegiraffe · 12/09/2021 14:23

I doubt it was the likes of Piers Corbyn who had any impact on this decision.

burningfromtheinside · 12/09/2021 14:24

We have them in Italy for cafes, bars, restaurants etc, public transport, events in big venues, sports, Uni, anyone entering or working at a school, including parents picking up children, and soon I think all workers. For the majority it's been no problem at all, in fact I feel much safer knowing everyone is double vaccinated or has a negative test which is less than 48 hours old, which is another way to get a Green Pass.

Because the majority of eligible people have had the vaccine. Not because the minority of the minority who haven’t did anything particularly special 🤷‍♀️

FatAnkles · 12/09/2021 14:28

I'm pleased. From an event planning POV, this would be so expensive and time consuming.

Peteycat · 12/09/2021 14:29

@Cornettoninja

You have no idea! None at all!

So what, we don't want it here.

It's difficult to know for sure, in this situation (unlike the studies which have of course not been on a novel vaccine 'cos we've not had any) then there would've been a lot of people not hesitant, but just hadn't got around to it, so I can certainly see the restrictions getting those people to get around to it, which is different in my mind to removing hesitancy.

We saw the same here in the UK, lots of people saying "Bolton is full of hesitant people 'cos only X% were vaccinated", but as soon as buses were on the street vaccinating simply so people could do it around their lives, they got vaccinated. ie it wasn't really hesitancy just the cost of access to the vaccine was too high - if it meant giving up work, childcare, mental resources etc. to get to a vaccine centre.

So I think the previous studies are only really indicative of the core vaccine hesitant people, that's much closer to the

herecomesthsun · 12/09/2021 14:33

@MistressoftheDarkSide

I think you'll find the "conspiracy theorists" are mightily relieved actually.

Especially the ones who have continually said vaccine passports without testing were lip service to the issue.

And the way it was being reported appeared to take testing out of the picture - but we do live in an age of revisionist history occurring in real time....... Hmm

Conspiracy theorists might be good at finding connections, don't you think?
Caspianberg · 12/09/2021 14:33

It really isn’t time consuming. The ‘green pass’ here in Europe is just a QR code so you can just scan it on machine at entrance, as quick as you would Oyster card for tube travel or similar.

Like someone else said, it isn’t just for double vaccinated, it records your negative test result also gaining you 24-48hrs entry to various things. Ie even double vaccinated I would need to have been tested to gain entry to care home to visit or hospitals

toomuchlaundry · 12/09/2021 14:34

Haven't they said they are keeping it in reserve just in cases need in the winter

Cornettoninja · 12/09/2021 14:37

Go on then @Peteycat, what have you done?

sirfredfredgeorge · 12/09/2021 14:38

How does it validate that the person in possession of the phone is the person the "green pass" is actually for?

Ooh you are very nosy cornetto. I never said I did anything. All I'm saying is that they were trying to impose this passport shite, so the people against it will be happy. I can see that you clearly are not but hey go. At least children can get on with having fun without a silly medical passport.

Cornettoninja · 12/09/2021 14:44

@Peteycat Nosy? Grin

Seeking clarity. Your posting to insinuate you’re part of a larger movement, but whatever. You’ve done nothing then.

I plan for events for surrounding Tube stations, in London, so staffing, entry/exit points, congestion control, for big events like concerts and football matches nearby. People use their partner's debit/credit cards on the Tube, or unregistered Oysters, or even their Nan's Freedom Pass all the time. What's to say the phone/pass the person is using is theirs? The only way around it is biometric ID cards, which are a hugely unpopular idea with the public. Also, it's impossible to enforce without significant investment in staffing and policing paid for...by thr venues. Prices would rise to cover these costs. Unworkable.
Bizawit · 12/09/2021 14:50

Thank god for that.

DoylyCarte · 12/09/2021 14:53

Great news!

Caspianberg · 12/09/2021 14:53

@sirfredfredgeorge - it’s not failsafe. But they can randomly spot check photo id matches so you would have to have someone else’s phone, photo Id and look like them if you were stopped.
