No Vaccine Passports

Government have just U turned confirmed vaccine passports won’t be needed for large scale events in England.

OP posts:

My guess is that they will be presenting a menu of mitigations (vaccinations for 12-15 & boosters etc. ) balanced by apparent new freedoms, and bigging up the freedoms as a sop to the Telegraph readers.

If they need to reintroduce school closure etc in future, it shouldn't be impossible to get it through with their large majority, anyway? Though hopefully it won't be needed.

Tana433 · 12/09/2021 11:06

They knew they wouldnt get enough support to get it passed through parliment. Thank god they have come to their senses on this silly idea. Wonder if Nicola Sturgeon will now face a backlash in Scotland?

sashagabadon · 12/09/2021 11:26

Thing is we do have the nhs Covid pass thing anyway and venues can ask to see them. I’m off to theatre this afternoon to see The Windsors and they’ve asked for Covid pass or negative lft so how would a vaccine passport be any different? Or is it the legal mandating of it that’s different rather than an “up to venues themselves” approach?

Thewiseoneincognito · 12/09/2021 11:27

SJ has said No vaccine passports, so then, just how DO they intend on proving who is jabbed and who isn’t?

Foreign nations are going to want you to prove it before setting foot on their borders so what official documentation will they accept? 🧐

MaxNormal · 12/09/2021 11:32

BigWoollyJumpers not in Spain for instance.
And many countries have a testing option as well which these would not have included.

The nhs Covid pass I would imagine. My mum and dad have just gone off to Portugal using theirs. All good. I am not sure why we even need another type of proof. Vast majority are vaccinated anyway so probability for most Brits (indeed most Europeans) is to assume they are double jabbed rather than they aren’t. Not the same for younger age groups but still overwhelming majority jabbed.

Sajid Javid told the BBC: "We shouldn't be doing things for the sake of it."

I’m in shock.

Now that makes sense.

Venues can choose to use the passports themselves --but the government don't take responsibility for a restrictive measure.

Also people going abroad need vaccine passports --so that 's another incentive that helps the government by increasing the numbers who have been vaccinated without them having to implement a restrictive measure.

I am sure they have planned this part of it carefully.

User4378645 · 12/09/2021 11:46

Good news,

I imagine the covid passes will just stay as they are now, so used for visiting other countries and any event or venue that chooses to use them.

Barearseloverofthigh · 12/09/2021 11:46

Great news! 🎉🎉🎉 Although all the teenagers i know were all set to get their fake passports anyway 😁

Tana433 · 12/09/2021 11:52

@Barearseloverofthigh. Not just teenagers either im willing to bet.

bumbleymummy · 12/09/2021 11:54

Great news! I hope Scotland drop their plans too.

sirfredfredgeorge · 12/09/2021 11:55

Terrible news. We had ways and time to reduce infection numbers and every single time we squander the chance

Every study on vaccine hesitancy shows coercion (and rewarding people too) for having a vaccine doesn't work, it actually makes people less likely to take it.

"If it was really in my interest to have this vaccine, why are you forcing me?" is the likely mechanism, the more you push the narrative that having a vaccine is something you need to be compensated for, the more people fight.

Caspianberg · 12/09/2021 11:59

We have had a vaccine passport here since June where we live. It really doesn’t bother me. It’s a 2second thing and means they have a way of making sure those entering are either vaccinated or tested.
I’m we have to use to enter even a coffee shop. I use to take Ds baby swimming etc.

Before they existed all those things were closed off here. So the option is use the passport or don’t go.

We still have to take tests to go certain places as well.

IcedPurple · 12/09/2021 11:59

Good. It's one of those 'showing that we are doing something' measures which just creates resentment for the public and hassle for businesses, but likely has marginal if any benefit.

AlvinSimonTheo · 12/09/2021 12:05

As soon as they were announced my friend went and got her first jab. Just had her second.

Now she's convinced that she was right and this is all a big conspiracy to get us injected with.....she's not sure what. Ffs

Interesting. Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland all currently require them for indoors, we will watch this space then.

@sashagabadon

A vaccine passport is different as it would only allow people who had been vaccinated to enter the venue.

Where as asking for a negative test or proof of vaccine means everyone is included.

Personally I feel everyone should be tested before entering. Even if you've had a vaccine. Everyone should prove they don't have covid before entering, that way you know no one can pass it on.

Makes no sense to allow vaccinated people into a venue when they may have covid.

The reason they announced the passports was to get people vaccinated... Obviously!
User135644 · 12/09/2021 12:17

@Frederica852

This was always going to happen surely? They only did it to pressure young'uns into getting vaxxed
They were never going to bring them in when push came to shove. Boris never wants to upset the liberty brigade at the best of times, let alone on an issue like this. He was forced into lockdowns kicking and screaming after delaying for so long.

@CarrieBlue

If you want to stop infections then test everyone.

Don't bring a passport in that only allows vaccinated people into a venue without being tested. Makes no sense.

AlvinSimonTheo · 12/09/2021 12:23

"The reason they announced the passports was to get people vaccinated... Obviously!"

Well yes, but with what? That's her "point" - no I don't get it either.

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 12/09/2021 12:26

It wasn't a vaccine passport. It was the requirement to have a vaccine OR a negative test OR just had covid so natural immunity

Mycatcontrolsmymovements · 12/09/2021 12:28

So what they have actually said is they won't put any controls at all in place
