And are going somewhere indoors, like the shops or a play centre, are you still running back to the house to get it or not?

Just curious what people tend to be doing.

It feels like a whole new mask etiquette is happening now!

In circumstances like this (and I’ve had a mask fall out my pocket on way to shop) then I just pull my jacket over my nose and mouth, nobody says anything, as long as these 2 bits are covered then what can be said really.

PopcornMuncher · 04/09/2021 20:23

Haven't worn one since 19 July. Except for work where its still compulsory Sad I hate them

mathanxiety · 04/09/2021 20:40

You know covid isn’t going away, right? Everyone is going to have to live with it. We can’t wear masks and be terrified forever.

Everyone is going to try to live with it, and the best way to do that is to wear a mask.

Equating wearing a mask with being terrified is all sorts of disingenuous.
Do you wear a winter coat when it's cold? Gloves? Hat?
Suncream if you want to avoid a sunburn and reduce your risk of skin cancer?
Wash your hands after using the loo?
Use birth control if you don't want to get pregnant?
Wear a mask FGS.

I wouldn’t be worried it was a cafe or pub but I still wear them every time in shops and on public transport. I think it’s a common courtesy especially in places that are providing essential services (supermarkets, pharmacies, post office etc).

Againstmachine · 04/09/2021 21:39

Forever no thanks, that's just nuts.

No one has social responsibility it's a construct you just made up.”

No, it isn’t. We all have social responsibility."

No we don't. Do you see yourself having social responsibility to the planet and future generations? If so, you will definitely ditch the bloody masks. I see them everywhere, hanging off trees, pavements, strewn on the floor in the countryside. Our moral obligation is to save the planet from more harm.

You forgot to mention lose weight, exercise more. Stop drinking, stop smoking, stop taking drugs etc. They are all preventative measures but we just ignore them don't we? Masks are done with for most people.

THIS

I think if you are entering a store or public space and the staff are wearing face coverings you should do the same out of respect. These people have to stand and deal with maskless people all day long literally putting their well-being at risk to assist YOU. In my view it says an awful lot about someone’s character, very telling indeed.

LastToBePicked · 04/09/2021 21:51

@WombatChocolate

How much do you all consider if it makes others feel uncomfortable?

That's the issue for me. I don't feel particularly under threat myself, but know others are vulnerable still or at least don't feel comfortable. So I feel I need to wear a mask to show consideration for them or the possibility they will be where I am.

I'm not sure that many people really think about how others feel and more if they want to wear it themselves.

That’s one of the main reasons I wear them now TBH. You don’t know if the person next to you in the supermarket queue is clinically vulnerable and is still anxious about being out and about. I don’t find wearing a mask too troublesome so it just seems like good manners to wear one.
ufucoffee · 04/09/2021 21:58

No. Don't wear one anywhere now. I always ask taxi drivers if they want me to wear one because I carry one just in case but they've always said no. Lots of shop staff not wearing them anymore too.

fantasmasgoria1 · 04/09/2021 22:03

Where I am mask wearing has dropped massively. Hardly anyone wears them including staff in shops!

RosesandPumpkins · 04/09/2021 22:04

Absolutely not. I wear one on the tube and in the pharmacy because I have to. That’s it.

Peteycat · 04/09/2021 22:05

Good for you if you don't find mask wearing troublesome. Alot of people do, it's not all about you.

TokyoTen · 04/09/2021 22:14

No, I no longer wear a mask at all. Don't even take one with me.

Apart from your last sentence, I'd agree with most of that post Smile
Peteycat · 04/09/2021 22:23

Herecomesthesun hooray we finally agree on something! Wink

NothingIsWrong · 04/09/2021 22:23

No. I got to the bus stop the other day and didn't have one. Got on and at least half the bus wasn't either so I just shrugged and sat down.

makkapakka212 · 04/09/2021 22:24

They're still mandatory in my area of the uk, no idea when it will change, I actually only forgotten one once and sent DH in to buy me one before entering

Warhertisuff · 04/09/2021 22:39

@Thewiseoneincognito

Endemic Covid will wreak havoc in the older generations if they continue living as if the threat has receded

The older generation is 95%+ doubled vaccinated.... Vaccinations are highly effective at preventing hospitalisation and death... Endemic Covid (which is Herero stay) hasn't wrought havoc in the older generation over the past few months with Covid rates being as high as they were last winter.

LoveFall · 04/09/2021 22:42

We had a break from masks for a month or two but now they are legally mandated in public indoor spaces again.

Lipsandlashes · 04/09/2021 22:44

Nope. I haven’t worn one since July. I do however keep my distance from people in shops, cafes and restaurants.

BitsyLu · 04/09/2021 22:46

mathanxiety · 04/09/2021 22:56

@Warhertisuff, the older generation are frequently in close quarters with younger people who are out and about, working as carers and nursing home staff with older individuals, serving them in shops and shopping alongside them.

The vaccinations available now don't confer full immunity. They are good but not bulletproof. Masks are a vital adjunct to vaccinations.

MyBadHabitsLeadToYou · 04/09/2021 22:58

I’m in Scotland and still wearing my mask.

In my neck of the woods however there has definitely been a decline in mask wearing. A lot of people aren’t bothering any more.

Oh aren't you judgy! Someones character. How ironic of you when you are so judgemental. Honestly I'm starting to get bugged with you finger wagers. Who do you think you are really?
