And are going somewhere indoors, like the shops or a play centre, are you still running back to the house to get it or not?

Just curious what people tend to be doing.

It feels like a whole new mask etiquette is happening now!

@Peteycat I think the question is Who do YOU think you are? Seemingly jumping all over any mention of taking precautions to twist and diminish people’s opinions. Damn right I’m judging your character.

"think if you are entering a store or public space and the staff are wearing face coverings you should do the same out of respect. These people have to stand and deal with maskless people all day long literally putting their well-being at risk to assist YOU. In my view it says an awful lot about someone’s character, very telling indeed."

Oh aren't you judgy! Someones character. How ironic of you when you are so judgemental. Honestly I'm starting to get bugged with you finger wagers. Who do you think you are really?

Well s/he’s a person with an opinion, which s/he’s expressing here on MN, because MN is designed as a forum on which people express opinions.. what do you think MN is for?
MooseBreath · 04/09/2021 23:33

I go back and get it. That said, if 15-month-old DS tries repeatedly to pull my mask off and chucks it on the floor then it goes back in my bag and stays there. Not worth the struggle.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 04/09/2021 23:41

I live in Central Scotland and I just got the train home and I was the only one wearing a mask, the train was packed and I couldn’t believe it, I felt stupid being the only one wearing it and was going to take it off, and I then thought that that was stupid and if everyone else wanted to be stupid then I’m not joining them, no way all those train passengers were all exempt, Scotrail staff didn’t check the tickets before I got off but they would have after my stop, and I hope they all got told to get them on.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 04/09/2021 23:43

I also haven’t been vaccinated because the truth is is that I’m scared to get vaccinated, I’m not a conspiracy theorist or an anti vaccer, (unsure if this is spelled correctly) and I am going to have to get the jag if I want to do things in life, but I am just scared.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 04/09/2021 23:43

vaxer was the word I was looking for! Heads like a sieve these days Confused

For those wearing a mask by choice, when do you think you'll stop doing so? When delta goes away? When cases fall? Forever?

Once there’s a vaccine resistant variant everyone will be wearing them again anyway. I really don’t mind wearing mine at all though, I wear it out of respect for those whom catching Covid would be potentially dangerous.
midsomermurderess · 05/09/2021 00:12

When will I stop wearing a face mask? I live in Scotland, we still do. I'll stop when the advice is to stop. I don't find it onerous, I cringe when I see people here talk about 'Freedom Day'. If it helps a bit and reassures others, it's not an issue for me.

toomuchlaundry · 05/09/2021 00:39

Do they still have to wear masks in Israel? Didn’t they bring them back in when the rates starting going back up? So they obviously think they help.

Personally even if they only help to prevent some transmission I’m happy to keep wearing them for some time. The rates in my area are sky high, the highest they have ever been, so I still see quite a few people wearing them.

Schools are also asking students to wear them in communal areas

In all honesty, it wouldn’t bother me personally if this was just what we do now, in certain environments. For a trip round the supermarket or riding the bus or similar it really doesn’t bother me to any significant degree. It’s just habit now, seems completely normal.

I get that other people find mask wearing more unpleasant or difficult, so I’m not generalising that we should all do it indefinitely, but for me I could do it indefinitely and it wouldn’t bother me.

In practice I’ll probably keep doing it in environments where it’s still a bit of a norm for as long as it’s a norm.

garlictwist · 05/09/2021 05:15

Only place I tend to go at the mo is the supermarket. In my local one no one is wearing a mask any more, including the staff so I rarely bother.

However I went to Waitrose the other day and it was a different story - everyone all masked up so I wore mine. Clearly the richer people are the more they wear a mask. There must be a PhD to be done somewhere.

LST · 05/09/2021 05:21

Nope. Don't even take one out with me. A very small minority are still wearing them in my area

Tumbleweed101 · 05/09/2021 08:32

I’m only wearing it if I’m in a particularly crowded place. I usually take one with me in case I’m requested to put it on. Around here it’s about 50/50. Everyone I know who has had recent Covid has had it mildly so wonder if this variant spreads easier but doesn’t make healthy people so ill. Only those not vaccinated have caught it too, when exposed to the same initial source.

As for going out without a mask - I’m double jabbed and do regular LFT for work. I don’t feel I’m a high risk to others at this stage. It’s just being mindful of where you are, being aware of anyone who becomes positive around you and keeping up LFT.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2021 08:35

getting less likely to wear now,
in a lift
at work,
in waitrose

RuggerHug · 05/09/2021 09:13

Still wearing masks and most people I see in shops are. Not in the UK though so attitude here is different. If I did forget I'd consider the same as forgetting my wallet and go home to get one.

user123974397375 · 05/09/2021 14:10

I have a problem with mask wearing by majority of people for foreseeable future. They were useful at the peak of pandemic, when we didn't have vaccines etc. Lots of people forget that there are downsides to wearing a mask. Issues of safety, people that rely on lip reading, small children learning to talk, people with social anxiety. By promoting mask wearing forever you are happy to exclude these groups of people from society. If someone is immunocompromised they should invest in proper N95, it will give them a much bigger protection that a piece of cloth.

WombatChocolate · 05/09/2021 14:14

garlictwist, I too have noticed that in more affluent areas, more people are wearing masks still.

Areas which become hotspots of Covid are often the less affluent areas. The BBC produced a chart which showed a very strong correlation between the low age of death in the industrial revolution areas, and those experiencing higher Covid death rates. It’s areas which are less affluent, have more crowded housing and people in jobs where it couldn’t be done from home do they were in crowded work places.

It’s an irony isn’t it, that in areas least likely to have high rates of Covid, mask wearing is still high. I’m not saying the mask wearing is the cause of low rates of Covid or not, but those more likely to suffer it, seem to take less precautions. Likewise, areas with highest rates of Covid deaths are also those that still have the lowest rates of vaccination.

user123974397375 · 05/09/2021 14:17

@WombatChocolate

It could be that people in less affluent areas tend to do be key workers and had to work throughout the pandemic, while rich people hid at homes.

herecomesthsun · 05/09/2021 14:19

We've now got reusable FFP2s for the winter.

I actually quite like Aldi/Lidl but only shop there if in the area at 8.30ish, otherwise M & S/ Waitrose ( and yes, people wear masks in them).

This is an area with lots of retired drs and lawyers etc.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/09/2021 14:37

surprising how many people aren't,
in the shopping centre recently,

Not really people don't have to wear them any more

You want to wear one wear one, if you don't, don't stop with all the posts about how bad and selfish people are if they don't.

herecomesthsun · 05/09/2021 14:54

People are generally not calling you selfish if you don't wear a mask, on this thread.

They are pointing out that

  • lots of people are wearing masks
  • often this is in more affluent areas

and so on

Yes, this.

Againstmachine · 05/09/2021 14:56

Except many people are on here slagging people off for not wearing, even on the same page.
