One Vaxxed, negative PCR but SO BLOODY ILL

PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 20:17

DSD (14) tested positive yesterday having spent all weekend with us, the poor mite, she just had a bit of sneezing but tested positive on LFT when she went back to her mums yesterday. 4 days with her, substantial contact, long car journeys, hugging etc.

She had her PCR earlier today and results not back but assuming it will be positive.

Me and DH did PCR and both have come back negative, which tbh I am completely shocked by. I feel rough as a dogs arse, aching all over, like my bones are on fire, sore throat, sneezing, just been violently sick. Have sick bowl and tissues by my bed.

Should I do another PCR?? I'm isolating from work (emergency services so slightly different rules), have had one jab.

God I feel like shit.

Does anyone know if any 'normal' bugs are going around that could account for it?

Ahh was just going to say this is the weirdest virus, I’m currently on day 14 after a positive test. DD (6) and DH also got classic symptoms and consistently tested negative (both types of test).
Please rest. I’m double jabbed and I’ve been in bed since Monday night as I tried to go back to normal, obviously over did it and the virus reactivated

PollyPepper · 01/09/2021 17:27

Thank you @Siameasy
It's so weird, or maybe the tests just aren't up to the task yet.

I feel so god awful, and a bit scared Blush

Hope you are ok OP. At least you know now and can stop the is it/ isn't torture and horrible swabs. Thanks

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 01/09/2021 17:53

I had a negative PCR when I was already ill and my daughter had 2! By the time we got a positive result she was actually back to normal and I was even worse. Confused Wishing you a speedy recovery, it’s bloody awful!

It is scary and unsettling. Take it a day at a time and keep hydrated. Hope you are doing OK OP

worriedatthemoment · 01/09/2021 18:41

@PollyPepper hope you feel better soon, maybe you had another virus as well who knows , or tests are almost pointless as we have had several colds / coughs in this house over the last 8 weeks all negative on various tests and some of us got it twice

It’s very odd but I don’t think they had Covid because they had classic bad cold symptoms whereas I had/have all these really odd symptoms I’ve never had before:
burning lung, dizzy, photosensitivity, extreme fatigue, loss of smell, sore scalp, hair loss…DH and DD are totally normal now

worriedatthemoment · 01/09/2021 19:19

@Mixingvax the OP has tested positive on a lVT now

Wagsandclaws · 01/09/2021 19:20

Hope you feel better soon OP, those lateral flow tests are very hit and miss.

My daughters friend had 3 positive lateral flows and then a negative pcr - if I were you I'd get booked in for one asap.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Thanks

@Siameasy I bet they did. When we first got COVID dh and ds1 had mild cold symptoms (dh did then get some viral itching), ds2 got 1 covid toe and I got everything except a fever, including a load of weird shit (burning skin, burning lungs, pins and needles) that weren't even recognized as symptoms at the time. Confused

Ormally · 01/09/2021 19:45

Hope that you feel better soon. Your description was to the letter, almost like mine when I had it. The thing that made me go downhill most was the sickness phase, but that does pass. Keep an eye on how much you (can) wee. I craved small amounts of salty things but water was not a tempting prospect. Lost taste properly a week after that, late in the game, when I was a bit more back on my feet.

FeelingJittery1 · 01/09/2021 23:32

Hope you feel better soon

RavingAnnie · 01/09/2021 23:56

I am recovering from covid. My husband tested positive first. I had developed symptoms by the time he tested positive. It took two PCRs, two LFTs and 5 days before I got a positive result. Keep testing and if you can isolate.

RavingAnnie · 01/09/2021 23:58

Sorry didn't RTFT! Think it's good people are aware this is happening though. I only kept testing as I had seen reports of others having multiple negative tests on MN! Everyone IRL was telling me I probably had another virus!

RavingAnnie · 02/09/2021 00:02

Hope you feel better soon - my husband and I were very poorly (flu poorly not hospital poorly) for a week or so. He is back at work now and feels fine. I am on the mend but still not back at work, but am starting to feel energy coming back today.

Rest up, plenty of fluids and paracetamol. Order some supplies in now while you feel well enough. Soups and smoothies are a good idea. Don't try to go back to normal activity too quickly as increases risk of long covid.

FeelingJittery1 · 02/09/2021 07:36

@PollyPepper hope you are feeling better than yesterday

PollyPepper · 02/09/2021 14:23

Hi all. Thanks so much for your replies.

Third step kid and DH are now positive Sad
DH has been double vaxxed and thankfully doesn't seem to have it nearly as bad as me, he's just very tired.

Did another LFT this morning which was positive and awaiting PCR result.

I was thinking of starting a new thread - my symptoms have been all over the shop, from stabbing pains all over my body, to weird,.spreading pins and needles feeling, full and painful ears, stabbing pain in chest, and yet not coughed once!

I wonder why symptoms seem to vary so much, and from what I've heard are nothing like the ones needed to get a PCR test. Hmm

I have had some ear problems too! I am on day 9 now (since testing positive) but have to stay in two extra days as I didn't get any of the three main symptoms until a few days after I tested. Sense of smell is still not back.

Hope you improve soon. FWiW I did get better after a couple of days.

PollyPepper · 02/09/2021 15:21

Thanks @TheSunnySide hopefully this is the wedge end of it now then, just managed to sit in the garden for a bit which was unthinkable 12 hours ago.

Hope your sense of smell comes back soon!

@PollyPepper how long are you after your 1st dose? If it’s passed two weeks then you would have antibodies I think?

Whichjab · 02/09/2021 15:45

That's so concerning regarding the not needing to isolate if a household contact is positive. You could have gone to work with that negative PCR.

So sorry you are feeling so rubbish, hope you feel better soon

PollyPepper · 02/09/2021 16:40

@Whichjab exactly. Very concerning. Luckily work are very hot on it (Now!) Having learnt the lesson last year of whole teams of 40 first response officers being taken out.

@FeelingJittery1 - first dose was May/June time I think, so yes I most certainly have some antibodies!

DH has had both jabs so just seeming very tired and none of the symptoms I've got. Needless to say that doesn't stop his Dressing Gown Of Doom being dusted off and wrapped round him Hmm

But that's only if you're double-vaccinated and OP has only had one. So in this instance, she should still have been isolating.

But yes, there will be cases where this happens.
