One Vaxxed, negative PCR but SO BLOODY ILL

DSD (14) tested positive yesterday having spent all weekend with us, the poor mite, she just had a bit of sneezing but tested positive on LFT when she went back to her mums yesterday. 4 days with her, substantial contact, long car journeys, hugging etc.

She had her PCR earlier today and results not back but assuming it will be positive.

Me and DH did PCR and both have come back negative, which tbh I am completely shocked by. I feel rough as a dogs arse, aching all over, like my bones are on fire, sore throat, sneezing, just been violently sick. Have sick bowl and tissues by my bed.

Should I do another PCR?? I'm isolating from work (emergency services so slightly different rules), have had one jab.

God I feel like shit.

Does anyone know if any 'normal' bugs are going around that could account for it?

@PollyPepper hope you feel better soon

I thought this was meant to be a manageable disease for many- I’m 40 and single jabbed as well snd reading this is freaking me out

ssd · 04/09/2021 19:38

I think the scary thing is how you just don't know how it'll affect you.

Siameasy · 04/09/2021 19:55

I’m having my doubts about this virus too! Heard so much “aaah it’s nothing blah blah”. I am double jabbed and the way it affected me scared me! A school mum I know double jabbed too is quite bad with it.

Porcupineintherough · 04/09/2021 23:05

I think a lot of people think a "mild" case will be like a bad cold or a few sniffles - and for some it is. But a mild/moderate case of COVID can make you so, so sick. I guess that's the difference bw a novel virus of concern and any old virus. This and future generations of children will be exposed to it repeatedly whilst young and will build up immunity from childhood. But for those of us who are older it's a rough ride.

I know a fit healthy 20 yr old who was similar to the op though. Its such a lottery.

Thewiseoneincognito · 04/09/2021 23:14

Hoping you’re better soon OP! I’ve felt off today done 2 LFTs and both negative, hoping it’s just me being run down but your situation has alarmed me. FFS autumn is going to be a shit show.

I think delta is making younger people sicker. Dont know why.

Bubbublish · 05/09/2021 02:27

I'm double jabbed and ended up in hospital for 10 nights. My oxygen levels were low at 86% when I was admitted and on the CPAP machine on maximum oxygen I was about 92/93%. Once the remdisivir, dexamethasone and tocilizumab started to kick in and reduce the inflammation in my lungs, my oxygen levels started to improve. I am slowly recovering, taste and smell have come back a bit but not fully but I do get quite breathless.

Even though I am double jabbed with no underlying health conditions, covid still affected me badly, it definitely seems to be a lottery!

Please remember it doesn't affect everyone in the same way and the medical team told me that being double jabbed probably saved my life! Remember to drink lots of water. Wishing everyone well

FeelingJittery1 · 05/09/2021 09:53

@Bubbublish sounds scary- how old are you?

Bubbublish · 05/09/2021 10:04

I'm in my 50s. I'm recovering slowly, thankfully

SilverGlitterBaubles · 05/09/2021 10:18

Sorry to hear this OP hope you are doing better Thanks

FeelingJittery1 · 07/09/2021 21:23

@PollyPepper how are you? Hope you are in the mend

ssd · 07/09/2021 22:49

I hope so too

PollyPepper · 08/09/2021 10:14

Thanks so much all.
I've been very breathless and a lot of lung pain in the night. Isolation is due to end tomorrow and work starts on Friday. I really don't feel ready physically but at the same time I'm so bored and struggling being so cooped up.
My Sgt has been great but I know they need me back in.

Honestly if you're still feeling like this please don't rush back. The people I know who tried to soldier on even though they felt rubbish are the ones who got long covid.
Siameasy · 08/09/2021 10:59

Don’t go back on full duties; I doubt your Sgt would take the risk. You could go on light duties - it really isn’t worth risking long Covid. I’m 3 weeks in and absolutely fed up that my body won’t allow me to exercise

PollyPepper · 08/09/2021 11:45

@CovidCorvid thats a really good point. I think I just need to be honest, the thought of long covid fills me with dread.

@Siameasy thats true. I think I'm going to call the covid hotline and ask to be on reduced hours/restricted duties for the first week at least.

Bloody hell who would have thought when I started this thread I would be so impacted in the end.
