One Vaxxed, negative PCR but SO BLOODY ILL

PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 20:17

DSD (14) tested positive yesterday having spent all weekend with us, the poor mite, she just had a bit of sneezing but tested positive on LFT when she went back to her mums yesterday. 4 days with her, substantial contact, long car journeys, hugging etc.

She had her PCR earlier today and results not back but assuming it will be positive.

Me and DH did PCR and both have come back negative, which tbh I am completely shocked by. I feel rough as a dogs arse, aching all over, like my bones are on fire, sore throat, sneezing, just been violently sick. Have sick bowl and tissues by my bed.

Should I do another PCR?? I'm isolating from work (emergency services so slightly different rules), have had one jab.

God I feel like shit.

Does anyone know if any 'normal' bugs are going around that could account for it?

Of course "normal bugs" are still circulating, the fact we've kept ourselves practically isolated and covered in anti bac for the past year or so also means we've lost some of our natural immunity to viruses we normally come into to contact with that usually have little to no impact on us.

OasisOfFerns · 31/08/2021 21:08

You've tested too soon I think, I would retest in a few days. I was reading about the timing of pcr tests and the false negative rate is around 28%, higher if less than 48 hours since close contact.

PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 21:08

Okay @Wellbythebloodyhell no need for spikeyness, I'm feeling fucking awful and was asking a simple question.

I'm police and have been in the trenches for the last year and a half, so have been more than exposed to your usual bugs and sicknesses, this feels very different.

PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 21:09

@OasisOfFerns I think you may be right. Thank you

worriedatthemoment · 31/08/2021 21:12

When did you do a pcr if dsd onky had today
My ds had a cold and tested negative and couple weeks ago my dh was really rough with cold and cough and 2 pcr tests and negative ( tested twice as well )

PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 21:16

DSD PCR is positive, and now so is DSS!

Again both with us for 5 days straight.

Maybe it's just coincidence that I feel so rough, bloody weird though.

OP posts:
PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 21:19

@worriedatthemoment DSD did LFT which was psotive last night. She had her PCR this morning which has just come back as positive, as has DSS' now.

Me and DH went to do our PCR this morning , had results within about 7 hours and both negative.

OP posts:
Figgygal · 31/08/2021 21:19

Same
Negative lft and pcr just in case
But since Sunday been hot/cold/tired/stomach pains/headache/shits
Had first bath in 5 years as too weak to shower
Feel like utter shit which is apparently just normal shit so might still have covid to deal with in future

Unsure33 · 31/08/2021 21:20

My daughter had a negative LFT and PCR but gradually felt worse . So then did them again a couple of days later and both positive.

I think it depends on viral load .

OasisOfFerns · 31/08/2021 21:22

It was this article. It was 38%. If you scroll down to false negatives it explains the timings better.

This is so interesting.

I tested negative twice (LFT) before testing positive three times (LFT x 2 and PCR).

My son seems to have caught the virus from me since, getting symptoms about 5 days after I tested positive.

worriedatthemoment · 31/08/2021 21:29

@PollyPepper wow that was quick
Maybe do another pcr in a couple days thats what my dh did as he got worse his was still negative so must of been heavy cold or other virus
My friends dd both had colds and lvt negative for approx 4 day, then one had a positive and all went for pcr and only the one positive who went on to develop slightly worse symptoms and her other dd with cold symptoms got better quickly and was negative , so we wondered if they both had cold first and then her dd picked up covid as well ? Its all so strange

PollyPepper · 31/08/2021 21:41

@OasisOfFerns thanks so much, I've sent that to DH.

I've been reading the 'early symptoms' thread and so many are exactly how I feel. Aching all over, pins and needles like pain in joints, headache, sore throat, sneezing. Ugh.

@worriedatthemoment yes I'll book another one for a few days if not better by tomorrow morning.

My other two DSS had negative PCR's so DH's ex is saying they are coming to ours as normal for three days, which I don't feel great about to be honest but now the rules have changed not much I can do.

OP posts:
worriedatthemoment · 31/08/2021 21:47

@PollyPepper yes don't blame you the rule change puts us in difficult situation
Could you ask she gets them to do another pcr before they come
We have decided if in situation here we will do pcr again 5 days or so after first so would hopefully pick up , obviously sooner if symptoms
Fingers crossed you feel better

Silversun83 · 31/08/2021 21:48

Yes, as others have said, you might get a positive in a few days.

Just checking you understand that as you're only single vaccinated, you still have to isolate anyway? (The exemption only applies if you're double-vaccinated).

Just because you say that you're 'isolating from work because they have different rules'.

Also not sure if the other DSSs are allowed to stay if you're self-isolating? You say the new rules, but as I say, they're only applicable to double-vaccinated (and children under 18 and four months). Smile

Do another test but in the meanwhile assume you're positive.
Sorry you're feeling so rough but you'll likely escape the worst of it having had one jab

Wellbythebloodyhell · 31/08/2021 21:53

@PollyPepper I wasn't being spikey just giving a plausible explanation why some of us might fare worse to the usual bugs we generally encounter, I can imagine given your profession there wasn't much chance to avoid the usual stuff going around. I hope you feel better soon whatever it may be that's making you feel so bad Flowers

Dontwant2live · 31/08/2021 22:10

I became ill on 15th August with classic covid symptoms, but tested negative with lft. 2 days later my dd17 had exact same symptoms and tested positive. We all did pcr test and got results back on 19th with dd positive and me and dh negative. She had to isolate until 27th. She felt better after 6 days (but still isolated obviously). I tested every couple of days and still negative. Then on 29th had what seemed like a very faint 2nd line. Been feeling awful this entire time still and had antibiotics for what Doctor decided was a chest infection. Finished them yesterday. Today I did a lft test and it was strongly positive, so I'm now awaiting pcr result again.

I really think I had it all this time but for some reason it wasn't showing up... maybe because I've had it before and I'm double jabbed as well as CEV? Who knows?

Dontwant2live · 31/08/2021 22:12

Meant to add, @PollyPepper, so I would isolate and retest in 5 days

Dontwant2live · 31/08/2021 22:16

I had covid last year too and I'm double jabbed, but am CEV so that may play a part in catching it again after being vaccinated.

momiamarichman · 31/08/2021 22:16

I had a horrid illness around 3 weeks ago. Was in bed for two weeks! Tested negative throughout but horrid cough and ear infection a few days in. Honestly couldn't believe I wasn't positive!

Still got a sore throat/congestion now and cough randomly if I over exert myself.

Take it easy and rest up.Smile

Porcupineintherough · 31/08/2021 22:17

@PollyPepper honestly, the chances of you coming down with a different covid-like bug just as you are exposed (good and proper) to COVID are tiny. I'd bet my bottom dollar that's what you have, test again in 3 days.

AmelieLovesAutumn · 31/08/2021 22:18

@PollyPepper. I'm sorry you feel so awful 💐

I have to agree that you've probably tested too soon. Despite feeling so fucking awful, it can take a while to show as a positive.

If it were me, I'd test again Thursday

I hope you are all feeling better soon
Xx

Ps. Thank you for working through the pandemic, you're a star ⭐️

ididitsocanyou · 31/08/2021 22:22

I think I have something too and my pcr is negative. I got a sharp pain in my tummy on Sunday which moved to stomach cramps. I’m so tired and weak. DD is also feeling bad and has taken tests which are negative.

PollyPepper · 01/09/2021 02:11

Will reply to everyone properly ASAP. Just updating that I am now very hot to touch and having a bloody awful night. I'm going to assume I've got it as pp's say. Its too much of a coincidence.
Bloody hell I feel like shit! Almost hope its positive so people know im not faking 😂
