Masks reducing where you are

Are the number of people wearing masks where you are gradually reducing since "freedom day"?

It's been less than 2 weeks, but already noticing more and more people going maskless. I tend to go to the same shops at roughly the same times, first time I went on 19th vast majority still wearing masks. Been a few times since then and more and more without masks. This area is fairly low infection rates and pretty high vaccination rate.

Wondering if the reduction of cases is helping those who were wavering before deciding to ditch it.

About the same as before. About 95% with them on

LST · 29/07/2021 20:32

I was in Wales last week where you still have to wear them and not many were in pubs and small shops. Was on a campsite though

Jellykat · 29/07/2021 20:39

I'm in West Wales, everyone is still wearing them here, as requested (including the small shops LST) thank goodness!

Bouledeneige · 29/07/2021 21:07

As far as I've noticed where I live it's 100 percent on the buses, 90% on the tube, and as far as I noticed practically 100% in supermarkets/shops.

Coldbrewsandamumbun · 29/07/2021 21:22

I live in a coastal town in Wales. We get lots of Holiday makers, 80% of them are not wearing a mask. It’s still compulsory in Wales, but as they don’t have to in England, they won’t here.

DrunkenKoala · 29/07/2021 22:02

I’d say about 2/3 were yesterday in Tesco. The ones who weren’t I’d say most of them were over 40 - the younger ones still seemed to be wearing them, not sure if it’s because not many of the under 40s are double jabbed yet.

No one is bothering at the local leisure centre (just walking around the building).

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 29/07/2021 22:06

Yes thank goodness

Willyoujustbequiet · 30/07/2021 02:05

North east here so a hotspot.

Everyone is still wearing them, honestly no difference from before.

Mediumred · 30/07/2021 02:23

In north London, haven’t been on the tube but I felt there was still a lot of people wearing them in shops (although sometimes I feel staff are les likely to wear them than customers but I suppose they have to be in the space for much longer) and buses, but went on the overland today and definitely most people weren’t.

tnetenba · 30/07/2021 07:20

Huge shopping centre (Metrocentre) yesterday there was probably about 5% masks. I wore mine going in then took it off after about 5 mins as it just seemed pointless. I think I'm done with masks now. I'm sick of not being able to talk to my baby properly when we're out and about.

psychomath · 30/07/2021 07:42

Seemed to drop off quickly in the first week here, then held steady at about 60/40 still wearing them.

squiddybear · 30/07/2021 07:44

Has been reducing here. When I went shopping last week it was a majority wearing masks. This week it seems to be a real 50/50 split. Same with work people who continued to wear them at the start are starting to stop

MrsRLynde · 30/07/2021 13:03

ONS latest data show mask use remains high. Good to see the big picture. Most people choose to continue to behave in away which helps to reduce risk in their communities.

ninamacctellsithowitis · 31/07/2021 13:31

Market here today nobody wearing a mask customers or stallholders.

Event at the park again nobody wearing any.

In asda probably only about 50 per cent wearing them all old people. Nobody under about 50 is wearing one. No staff at all wearing them.

People seeing the light.

PigeonPink · 31/07/2021 13:39

Mask use here has reduced dramatically to the point that it’s unsafe to go out. I tried going out yesterday but I was surrounded by maskless/witless people, nowhere to turn and no way to avoid them because they were everywhere. So basically I can’t go out any more.

Exactly the same here. We're only going out for essentials now. Joe Public just don't give a shit any more.
HelloMissus · 31/07/2021 19:18

Nanny you’ve been saying that for months.
Way before easing of restrictions.

FloFlower · 31/07/2021 19:26

Who wears masks at an outdoor market or park anyway?

pourmeanotherglass · 31/07/2021 19:28

Have been on holiday in Cornwall last week, and most people were wearing them.

Starlightstarbright1 · 31/07/2021 19:33

I wore mine first week as had a cough and cold ( pcr was negative before anyone asks)
I wore my mask to protect others from having to self isolate whilst waiting for a pcr

I wore it today to supermarket as i thought it would be busy. Didn't notice how many were wearing them but did notice the large number of people who stopped dead to look at list.

Our local chemist still insits so still carry one.

Surely you can go to outdoor spaces
harridan50 · 31/07/2021 19:38

Went into birmingham today. Lots of people maskless both on the train in and in the shops. The reality is it is the vaccine breaking the viral chain not bits of cloth over faces

user1487194234 · 31/07/2021 19:51

How much difference do masks make when not coupled with any other social distancing
Serious question
Really unfair to call people who don't wear masks witless

Floralnomad · 31/07/2021 19:53

We are SE and it seems that the majority are wearing masks still . We went to a NT place the other day and people are still naturally socially distancing in the queues as well , which from my POV is good news .

MrsSkylerWhite · 31/07/2021 19:53

Very much depends on the type of mask. FFP3 make a big difference.
