Double vaccinated and positive: covid progression thread

AvaCallanach · 22/07/2021 09:18

Hi. I can't see a thread like this elsewhere. I thought maybe those of us testing positive after being fully vaccinated might make a symptoms and progression thread for others.

I am fully vaccinated with Pfizer since mid May. In my early 50s and in the obese category (size 16).

I caught covid from my child - obviously prolonged contact.

I have had it for a week.
First couple of days: headache, tired, low energy, no appetite.
Now: like severe head cold. Worst parts are the congestion in my ears which I am probe to anyway, decongestant isn't helping much, and it makes me dizzy. Also night time cough, episodes of alternate blocked and runny nose, sinus pain. I slept better last night so am hoping I am over the hump. I would class it as mildly to moderately unwell but going on for a long time.

Anyone else tested positive after being fully vaccinated want to share?

out of interest what were you side effects like after vaccination?

I had AZ and felt rubbish after first one , and a bit groggy after second. Just wondering if there's a correlation with immune response to vaccine and symptoms with the actual virus?

AvaCallanach · 30/07/2021 22:15

I was fine after both jabs (Pfizer) and had positive antibody test a week before covid came calling.

So was my dh whose vaccination seemed to hold and who didn't get covid when every other person in the house did (4 of us).

@Getawaywithit

Somewhere between 9 and 14 days for me. The cough is relentless. I threw up everything I ate as a result yesterday. Have just started on Complan. I feel about 90.
I found Benylin night cough helped as every time I laid down to sleep I coughed! This was about day 7-10 for me once the mucus cough had passed.
Getawaywithit · 31/07/2021 00:36

Thank you @Tatapie, I will see if I can get some. The coughing is dreadful. Has it stopped for you now?

Covidoutcast · 31/07/2021 12:13

I had bad headaches after my second AZ vaccine which lasted about two weeks.
Then I had about two weeks headache free before getting Covid Hmm
Day 9 here and feeling much brighter but I feel exhausted in the afternoons and have to have a nap.

Tatapie · 31/07/2021 12:50

@Getawaywithit yes, cough all gone. I'd say overall I was symptomatic for 2 weeks, unwell for 1 of them , in bed 2 days. I'm still tired but then again I'm not a hugely energetic person normally!

Iusedtobecarmen · 31/07/2021 13:26

Can I join
Fit and healthy
Walk loads everyday. Usually very busy at home and work.

Have stressful job in hospital, been exposed to covid quite a bit.
Worked throughout pandemic.
No covid for myself or family throughout.
Double jabbed oxford vaccine. Last one June
Started feeling very tired last weekend. Had been to a party, drinking more than normal. Weather hot. But i felt wiped out. More than just a hangover.
Kept soldiering on over the next couple of days but I was off work(luckily) and was getting up later as I was so exhausted.
Start of the week I did 2 x LFT both neg
Then I felt more achey/start of a cold
3rd LFT pos.
Had PCR also positive

So I'm on day 6 from symptoms
Or 9 if we count lethargy with no symptoms? Who knows and if I did know I could maybe pinpoint how I caught it?
Anyway, I feel crap but not as dreadful as the flu

Achey, especially my lower back

Mild headache
Total exhaustion but I have bouts when I get up and maybe clean the bathroom etc
Slight cough
No fever at all.
Snotty nose and sneezing but sometimes a bit blocked too

Lost sense of smell about 3 days in

Can still taste but it's not right.
I could quite easily lie on the sofa all day, but I've been kind of forcing myself up as I dont fell quite poorly enough to justify not moving

AvaCallanach · 31/07/2021 20:28

@Iusedtobecarmen
That sounds horrible. I hope you feel better soon.
I feel like I am getting stronger every day.
Done 8.5k steps today - albeit with 2 naps!

Somewhere between 11 and 16 days. There is definitive improvement. Around day 6, I was sleeping for 19 hours a day but yesterday, I was awake for 12 hours without needing a nap. Cough is still bad but less ‘deep’. Still can’t smell or taste anything. Have lost a full stone in weight now (although I had it to lose!).

Scarecrow2016 · 04/08/2021 18:06

Hello,
Why am I still exhausted on day 13? I think I'm getting better and then the exhaustion builds up again.

Iknowtheanswer · 04/08/2021 20:14

Just over 3 weeks (possibly 4 if I count from when I started to feel tired) and I tried to do a light run last night. Bad idea - I've been wiped out all day. Struggled through work, thrm fell asleep in the garden for an hour when I got it in.

If I don't run, my back is agony, so I'm struggling to work out what's best.

Getawaywithit · 05/08/2021 14:51

Day 15 post-diagnosis for me and am a lot better. On the surface, at least. Definitely can’t do much without needing to lie down. Out of breath walking upstairs. Tired overall. Fortunately I am a teacher so still have some weeks to rest.

AvaCallanach · 05/08/2021 16:05

I feel back to normal except for my sense of smell - which is at about 5 percent of typical now. The silver lining on that is I can cuddle our lovely dog without noticing how stinky he is!

Similar boat here. Caught it from my children, double jabbed with AZ. felt like I'd been hit by a bus. No loss of smell or taste but headache, body aches, diarrhoea and just feeling 'meh' to a large degree.

BrokenLink · 06/08/2021 09:37

Can I join you? Fully jabbed with AZ since March. Positive PCR last night. Pretty sure I caught it from my adult children, who are also positive. Lots of coughing and sneezing and feeling tired. Feeling bad about all the people I came into contact with before I had symptoms.

CalmDownBoris72 · 06/08/2021 19:24

My husband (double AZ) and 5 kids all tested positive within 3 days of eachother. I’ve been negative throughout with double Pfizer but they all tested positive less than a week after my 2nd jab. There seems to be no rhyme or reason with the efficacy of the jab on different people at preventing infection. I am very sure my H would have had it BADwithout the double vaccine though.

Iusedtobecarmen · 07/08/2021 12:20

Well I'm day 12 now. Family have stopped isolating.
I still feel pretty crap, but a million times better than a couple of days ago.
Just tired now

Funny horrible taste in mouth and not much energy.
I can do housework etc now but I'm a bit anxious about doing more than that.
I dont know whether I'd be okay to go to the shops
Technically I'm clear
I have no temperature.
But I keep thinking its actually only day 10 since I had positive test(but I had mild symptoms 2 days prior).
Keep worrying I'm still infectious!
Also how.much do I push myself?
I cant face work as it's in a busy hospital, but I dont know how much of that is anxiety!!
