Double vaccinated and positive: covid progression thread

AvaCallanach · 22/07/2021 09:18

Hi. I can't see a thread like this elsewhere. I thought maybe those of us testing positive after being fully vaccinated might make a symptoms and progression thread for others.

I am fully vaccinated with Pfizer since mid May. In my early 50s and in the obese category (size 16).

I caught covid from my child - obviously prolonged contact.

I have had it for a week.
First couple of days: headache, tired, low energy, no appetite.
Now: like severe head cold. Worst parts are the congestion in my ears which I am probe to anyway, decongestant isn't helping much, and it makes me dizzy. Also night time cough, episodes of alternate blocked and runny nose, sinus pain. I slept better last night so am hoping I am over the hump. I would class it as mildly to moderately unwell but going on for a long time.

Anyone else tested positive after being fully vaccinated want to share?

Would you say that you had tinnitus? Also the breathing, not a bad cough but a kind of wheeze. Headaches around the eye coming up from the sinus area?

DinosaurDiana · 22/07/2021 09:22

Not me, but a double jabbed, colleague in the office the other day was coughing/sneezing/blowing his nose. Then got a sore throat later that day, and had a positive lateral flow and test that night.

AvaCallanach · 22/07/2021 09:23

Tinnitus no, I have alternate blocked ears with significant pressure - but each to a different amount, so it's very discombobulating. Hot showers help a bit.

Oh I also have no sense of smell.

My breathing luckily is ok so far. It feels very head based and not in my chest.

Interesting - the cough and sneezing came in on about day 4 for me - but I was doing daily LFT and picked up on the infection very early. My very first symptom was waking in the night feeling a bit shivery. The next morning my eyes hurt a bit to move - for me that is a classic "you are about to get ill" sign.

Fully vaccinated since early May with Pfizer, 11 week gap.

Thursday evening felt like I'd been hit by a bus. Went to bed, struggled to even pick of my phone off the bedside table etc.

Friday, didn't get out of bed except to go to the toilet.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday - felt awful, incredibly tired but made it to the sofa. Headaches dizziness, very mild cough, sore eyes, light aversion, poor concentration etc.

Tuesday last week to today, only very minor improvement day to day. Felt much worse again for a couple of days walking to the postbox with DH test on Friday.

Sense of taste went wonky for a few days from Wednesday last week - could smell fine (nose not remotely bunged up) and taste sweet, salty etc but couldn't taste anything else unless the flavour was very strong (couldn't taste bananas, could taste garlic powder but not a lot).

Still not capable of doing much two weeks in.

Tests were negative but taken on day 7 for me and day 8 for DH. There's no way we were both close enough to anyone for long enough to catch anything less transmissible than delta and we developed symptoms too close to each other for one of us to have caught anything and passed it on plus I've never experienced anything like that loss of taste.

AvaCallanach · 22/07/2021 09:50

@QueenStromba

Interestingly I was on the daily testing regime after my child tested positive - my LFTs were only positive for 2 days. Showing as completely negative now. But I am obviously still not "better".

For me, I've had 2 doses of AZ last one end of June, tested positive a week after my son, mainly just cold symptoms cough a bit at night.
Not sure if I'm day 6 or 9 though as started with a cough a couple of hours after first PCR test that came back negative, cough lasted a couple of days did daily lft tests then 3 days later one came back positive and confirmed with a PCR.
So not sure if first PCR was a false negative or just had a separate cough. All symptoms have just about gone today, didn't sneeze once last night just the odd cough.

AvaCallanach · 23/07/2021 12:32

Day 9 today. No coughing overnight and I was able to sleep all night, first time in a week (huge storm cleared the humidity late evening, that probably helped a bit too). The inside of my nose is itchy and burny feeling and I am having sneezing fits intermittently, but my ears feel less congested and I feel a bit better overall.

Double based with AZ, 50s, obese. Not sure which day I’m on - tested positive yesterday. Son tested positive on Tiesdsy after symptoms staring Saturday. I had an upset stomach and some back pain over the weekend and today feel like someone is sitting on my chest but am eating OK and able to get out of bed. Am a bit tired but had a bad night with the heat.

AvaCallanach · 23/07/2021 14:09

Getawaywithit that sounds horrible. I guess I am lucky that my symptoms whilst unpleasant have been very much head based throughout. It's a bit cooler here today so I hope you get a better rest tonight.

Hi all

I was fully vaccinated from April. Caught Covid from DS. I’m on day 8.
Initial symptoms - just a headache for 3 days. Daily LFTs negative. Day 3 LFT lightly positive and by then mild fever. Then the fatigue came, my legs are like heavy weights, I have the energy of a snail. Used to walking 20k steps a day. Sense of smell and taste went on day 5/6. I can’t smell or taste a thing now, it’s so weird. I also had some gastro symptoms, stomach pain and very windy!

My chest still feels like I have a load of mucus stuck in it, but can’t cough it up. Should add I did have a bit of a cough, but only as I felt I needed to cough to get mucus up. DS had a proper cough. He’s on day 10 and is super fit 17yr old and is still wiped out too, but he’s better than I am. He wasn’t vaccinated. DD (13) is negative on LFT, waiting on her test results, she has no symptoms.

Hi all

Double vaccinated with AZ, second jab end of June 9 weeks apart. I got a positive PCR result today after symptoms started on Wednesday. Chills and fever, runny nose and sinus pain, lost taste - can taste if something is sweet or savoury but that's it. Chest feels a little tight if I take a deep breath.

I booked the PCR and then took a LFT out of curiosity which was positive. The last LFT I took was on Monday and was negative.

Generally feel ok, bit tired perhaps but I feel worse since getting the positive result! In the mind, I suppose.

I am 40 and pretty fit and healthy. Intending to spend a lot of time in bed this weekend, just going to rest it out.

AvaCallanach · 23/07/2021 14:56

Hi Darbs and outcast.
Did you both catch from your children?

Hope you feel better soon.

OP posts:
Covidoutcast · 23/07/2021 15:05

I don't know where I caught it. My children haven't had symptoms but they are only 5 & 7 so could be asymptomatic.
I went to a work event (by train and tube) on Monday and I saw friends at the park and in the garden at the weekend. Other than that I have popped to a few shops etc but nothing else of note.
I have worked from home exclusively since March 2020 - the fact I was at the work event on Monday probably means my whole office will be T &T'd Blush (I have a thread about the guilt and the fact the arseholes at my work named me as the positive one).

How long before you were all contacted by track and trace after your positive result? I have no idea whether they will expect me to name everyone at the event (40 odd people) or just my firm.

AvaCallanach · 23/07/2021 15:33

I was contacted the same day as my positive result came through.

Days 14 and 15 were the worst for headaches. Day 16 now, stick feel like crap, still exhausted and my sense of taste has almost vanished again, this time time taking most of my sense of smell with it.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 23/07/2021 20:10

was the work event at a distance @Covidoutcast

Whathefisgoingon · 23/07/2021 20:14

This thread does not fill me with much hope.

I’m double vaccinated as of May and Covid is RIFE where I am.

Hellenbach · 23/07/2021 20:23

I'm double jabbed with AZ in spring. On day 9 of Covid isolation. Caught it from my DS15 who was on day 10 of isolation from school when he got unwell.
I've had Covid before. This time it's not as bad. I can tell you that the vaccination shortens it and alleviates symptoms.
Still can't taste or smell anything.
Chest is so tight. No energy. But I'm not bedridden like last time.
My elderly neighbour has it and has had both Pfizer jabs. She's been less unwell than me.
I believe the Pfizer jab has been the reason compared to my AZ.

lostinlego · 23/07/2021 20:42

Either day 7 or 10 today, now virtually symptom free just slight loss of smell now but improving.

AvaCallanach · 23/07/2021 20:46

I am much improved today - day 9 and the sneezing has reduced significantly during the day.
The last of the kids has developed symptoms this evening though :(

Covidoutcast · 23/07/2021 20:51

@AbsolutelyPatsy it was outdoors but the seating was not distanced. The meeting where we were seated went on for an hour and then there was a bbq where people mingled but I mainly sat at a table with a few others.

dementedma · 23/07/2021 21:02

Double jabbed 19 year old DS
Started with normal cold symptoms, all lateral flows clear until about 5 days in.
No sense of taste or smell, inflamed sinuses, bit of a cough.

Scarecrow2016 · 24/07/2021 08:59

Hello, Can I join you? Tested positive on 23rd. Symptoms started on 22nd. Double jabbed. Fever first night and again last night. Dry cough from first day but it changed in the night to a much heavier cough. I'm now feeling a bit breathless and chest is sore.

I think I caught it from my primary age son. I've hardly been out of the house and have been avoiding social contact as we had a holiday coming up.

I'm finding it hard seeing all these people out socialising. Cases are going to increase massively next week.
