Double vaccinated and positive: covid progression thread

AvaCallanach · 22/07/2021 09:18

Hi. I can't see a thread like this elsewhere. I thought maybe those of us testing positive after being fully vaccinated might make a symptoms and progression thread for others.

I am fully vaccinated with Pfizer since mid May. In my early 50s and in the obese category (size 16).

I caught covid from my child - obviously prolonged contact.

I have had it for a week.
First couple of days: headache, tired, low energy, no appetite.
Now: like severe head cold. Worst parts are the congestion in my ears which I am probe to anyway, decongestant isn't helping much, and it makes me dizzy. Also night time cough, episodes of alternate blocked and runny nose, sinus pain. I slept better last night so am hoping I am over the hump. I would class it as mildly to moderately unwell but going on for a long time.

Anyone else tested positive after being fully vaccinated want to share?

Hi, it's been just over 3 weeks since I started with symptoms (the usual runny nose, headache, exhaustion etc) but have been feeling more or less better. But today I feel awful again, tired, no appetite, sinuses feel blocked up, headache. I'd happily go back to bed but have work to catch up on. Is this 'normal'!?

Hi all, glad to find this thread. I’ve been double vaxxed since May (age 30, was prioritised for vaccine due to Crohn’s) but tested positive for covid last Friday. Had relatively mild cold symptoms for the first few days but for the last day or so the breathlessness and coughing have hit. My chest is tight and I’m so wheezy.. breathing in is ok but it feels like I’m not breathing out properly. I’ve never had asthma, but my brother does and my breathing/cough sounds just like him when he’s struggling. Waiting for a callback from 111 but wondering if anyone else has experienced similar?

irritableshark · 28/07/2021 15:25

@JemimaMoon could you have had a false positive?

JemimaMoon · 28/07/2021 15:46

Who knows! Still asymptomatic...

DumpedByText · 28/07/2021 16:04

Not me but my brother, who is double jabbed with AZ. He is 52 with asthma, no symptoms but was contacted by T&T as someone in the office was positive, so he did LFT which was positive.

PCR was also positive and on day 2 he got a headache and runny nose, tiredness but nothing else. I think if he wasn't vaccinated it would be a different story.

poshme · 28/07/2021 16:16

@cara237 I recently had covid.

I am now wheezing quite a bit, and have a dry cough every now and then. I dug out an old inhaler and it is massively helping.

I have previously had 'post viral wheeze' according to the doc- essentially a cough that lingers after I've had a cod. That's what my inhaler was for.
Previously it has tailed off after a couple of weeks so hoping this will too.

I caught covid 2 weeks after my second AZ jab. Similar to everyone on this thread- and found the loss of taste and smell awful.

Smell started coming back on day 14, and is now completely back to normal.

cara237 · 28/07/2021 17:09

Thanks @poshme. Had a rough night - GP from 111 listened to me wheezing down the phone and gave me the choice of a trip to A&E for oxygen or trying an inhaler. I really don’t want to go to hospital so chose the inhaler and it does seem to be helping take the edge off.. I’m still wheezy but definitely less breathless, although I’m coughing as much as ever. GP did say I sounded asthmatic so wondering if the virus has triggered something?

I naively thought being double vaxxed would mean I’d get off lightly! Hoping this is temporary and that we’re all on the mend soon.

Getawaywithit · 28/07/2021 18:04

Somewhere between 7 and 12 days for me. Temperature is up and down like a yp yo. I had a love,y hot shower this afternoon and ended up passed out on the bathroom floor….i have been lying in my eldest’s bed ever since and they have made a huge fuss of me.

AvaCallanach · 28/07/2021 23:20

That all sounds awful. I am fine now (day 12) except for having no energy. Took the dog for a short walk and had to have a lie down after.

I am very grateful not to have got it before the vaccines.

Day 6 here - not quite asymptomatic but feel very, very lucky. Tired and a bit headachy but nothing particularly unpleasant. Feeling very grateful for the vaccine.

Kerberos · 30/07/2021 01:10

Day 3. AZ in June. Sore throat, sneezing, bit of a headache. 45.

All kids have it too. 1 asymptomatic (patient 0 - he caught it and passed it on to us!), 1 a bit run down but OK, and 1 whose had a headache but now OK.

Is it likely to get worse from here??

MissingEveryoneSoMuch · 30/07/2021 03:22

Double jabbed since April, I’m 35, mild asthma, no other issues. Haven’t had my PCR result yet and LFTs are all negative but DDs have had a cough and temperature and I started with a blocked nose, headache and sore throat yesterday. Now have a temp of 38 degrees. DH seems to have started with similar.
If the PCRs are positive then we will have to miss 2 family weddings, as will some family members who we have seen this week which I will feel absolutely awful about.

QueenStromba · 30/07/2021 07:09

Day 23 now. Week three brought lovely headaches, had to split my weekly Asda shop over two deliveries due to the limit on paracetamol. Sense of taste still not all there. I feel like I turned a bit of a corner yesterday though - managed to do some things about the house without feeling absolutely awfl and my brain fog is much improved.

AvaCallanach · 30/07/2021 07:50

I am on day 14 and feel fine, had my first coffee yesterday - I was SO looking forward to it - and it tasted absolutely disgusting, burnt and bitter. I seem to have "covid tongue", it feels like I have burned it (warning, disgusting picture) Sense of smell at about 2 percent. I can now smell my face cream when I apply it.

After my first half day back at work yesterday I had to have a two hour nap, but I managed work fine.

We’ve had hardly anyone double vaccinated admitted to ITU where I work and it is the same across all our regional centres. Those who have been admitted have only been in for a few days and recovered. The ITU however is filling up quickly with the non vaccinated and many are quite a bit younger and sicker than in the first 2 waves. So the vaccine seems definitely to be breaking the link between infection and death.

lifehappened · 30/07/2021 08:09

Oh lol I thought this meant positive as in positive thinking so wanted to join. My bad ! Hope you all feel better soon

TAmumto3 · 30/07/2021 08:31

DS1 (17) tested positive last Sunday. Rest of us had a PCR on Tuesday, by which time ds2 was also ill and positive and dh (double vaccinated AZ since may) had no symptoms but tested positive. DH developed symptoms the next day - exhaustion, severe headache, aches and pains, dizzy, can’t think properly, no appetite. DS1 and DS2 are both quite ill for fit, healthy teenagers- worse than I thought they would be.

I am also double vaccinated with AZ since May and dd has had first Pfizer vaccine - we have no symptoms and continue to have negative lateral flow tests.

Covidoutcast · 30/07/2021 09:59

Hi all
It has been over a week since my positive test and my cold likes symptoms have cleared up but I have a bad back and my head feels full of cotton wool. I am trying to work (another long story) and I keep making mistakes/ things are taking forever.
I also feel quite anxious and emotional. I feel like I don't want to go back out into the world.
No one else in my household has had symptoms and my DH is refusing to test (PCR, he has been doing LFTs out of curiosity) in case it comes back positive and he has to isolate for another 10 days.

Does anyone else feel anxious after having it?

QueenStromba · 30/07/2021 10:23

If you're struggling to work like that then you'll probably be more productive overall if you rest for another couple of days.

Covidoutcast · 30/07/2021 10:44

I know, Queen Stromba but my work are being utter, utter arseholes about the whole thing. I think this is what is making me anxious.

I am on a project which should have completed today, it will be done Monday now as I need to do something in the office. No one would help me with it when I came down with Covid (I don't know for certain but I think the bosses prevented anyone from helping me) and I think it is going to be used to manage me out because I named several people (inc bosses) to test and trace which has meant they have had to isolate too.

I have worked every day whilst ill - answering emails and doing bits and pieces trying to get this project over the line but they have put me on SSP for the 10 days anyway (we get nothing more than the bare statutory minimum) even though if I tally up my hours I am only probably down 3/4 over the week which I think is pretty good considering I have been unwell.

They will do anything to save a bit of money though, we still have staff on furlough even though we are busy (and I suspect one or two are working behind the scenes for the bosses).

QueenStromba · 30/07/2021 10:48

Jeez. Get a new job, labour is in short supply at the moment.

QueenStromba · 30/07/2021 10:50

And kick up a stink about the SSP if you've been working the whole time. They're forcing you to work for less than minimum wage which is highly illegal.

Getawaywithit · 30/07/2021 13:51

Somewhere between 9 and 14 days for me. The cough is relentless. I threw up everything I ate as a result yesterday. Have just started on Complan. I feel about 90.

iamreally · 30/07/2021 16:30

had a bit of scratchy throat and blocked nose, faint positive on LFT and positive PCR back today. Feel a little bit fuzzy headed and snotty but otherwise OK. Caught it from DD who had similar symptoms Monday but is fine now.
Really hoping DH and DS don't catch it as we have already had to miss first 5 days of our holiday due to SI

Fern204 · 30/07/2021 16:39

Double jabbed with AZ, 2nd was early June. Started sneezing and headache on Monday so did a lateral flow which was positive. So was the 2nd one. So was the PCR.
Since then temperature spikes, total exhaustion, everything hurts, even my skin. Tinnitus worse. Headache hasnt shifted in 5 days.
No idea where it came from, I'm not working, haven't been anywhere. DH was negative until today. DS negative still.
I have been accepted for a drug trial to improve recovery time, starts tomorrow. Meanwhile I am staying in bed!
